Does using the dodge roll in SSBB make you cheap? and other questionably cheap techniques.

Dodgeroll: standard
Spot dodge: intermediate
move blocking (pk fireing an eggroll for example): advanced depending on how you look at it.
Wavedashing: 'pro'

If I were you I'd teach them the tricks and go easy on them. You have wifi by any chance?
Yes, but unfortunately they took wavedashing out of Brawl...

Then again, I'm friends with the best Snake player in the Northeastern US(to anyone who pays attention to the tournaments, his name is Fatal) and from what I saw back in the days of Melee, the pros basically went past the point where wavedashing was necessary.
well thats the meta game to ya, there was really no avoiding it. I personally think wave dashing is stupid and I can c-stick your ass. And don't you mean 'fortunately they took wavedashing out of brawl' :p

I can understand strategy in an FPS. beleive me. but using an annoyingly over powered gun and sitting in the same corner the entire game is stupid. I what war did sitting in a corner win it for us? I don't think WWll was one of them.

You know what's cheap? Landing a tank on the entire map that if it doesn't kill you, it can lift you off the screen to death.

OK, you're not understanding what I'm saying. This thread is asking if you find shield-rolling cheap. I said no, it's strategy. I then listed several things that are almost universally considered to be cheap by tournament players, etc. This was directed to the OP, since we were talking about cheapness in the game.
What tournaments are you going to? lol, ike being cheap makes me lol.

Anyways, like everyone else here has said- dodging is part of the game, and a pretty important part. You're not cheap for using it. Especially since you can't kill with dodge, you know? Like, I can see how spamming a kill move would get annoying (but the hit decay somewhat takes care of that... slightly lol), but it's not like you can win a match by doing nothing but dodging.

I don't have Brawl, so I wouldn't know, but it doesn't sound cheap.

My brother hates me using Siegfried in Soul Calibur 3, as I use a lot of sweeping attacks that he just can't counter.

I usually play as Ice Climbers but never use the block. I just jump on a time-to-time basis and that usually dodges most attacks. Works for me.

There are people that DON'T use dodge roll?

Wow... sad. Even my mum's got a grasp on that technique, it's easy to setup a premptive, so your friends clearly just suck bitter balls.

My friends start yelling how I'm a fag, gay, an asshole, etc... because I use those moves
What do they do when you attack them? Stand there and take it?! Jesus, those guys suck. One of the most BASIC things in SSBB is holding shield and then moving the stick to the side. It's not hard to grasp or do XD Getting really good at it takes some practice and work but seriously - abuse over using a core mechanic?! Next they'll be saying that using scopes in CoD2 is cheating, or being behind cover in gears of war... XD

It is only cheap if you are winning. Spamming the same move, using a variety of moves, camping, blocking and running around spraying and praying are all cheap moves if you are using them and winning.

Thread necro'd, much?

Anyway, I'd like to bring up the noob tube in MW2. My friend has a brother that only gets kills using rifle grenades and the thumper. Since these require little skill to use and is very effective, is it cheap? What about knife running?

I still maintain that any technique that is available to all players, even if it takes a little practice to truly master, is perfectly acceptable in play, no matter how ridiculously effective it proves to be. When there's nothing that can counter it, then it starts to get into cheapness territory.

proper use of defensive abilities, and more importantly how to get past and kill a defensive minded opponent is an important lesson when playing a fighting game.

It's not cheap to use them, and your friends will only get better if you do your best.

That being said, if you're stomping your friends all the time because you're clearly better then they are, use the handicaps. Trying and give yourself about a 50/50 win/loss ratio against them, perhaps by heavily handicapping yourself, until they get better. Once they get used to fighting you, you can turn the handicap off.

I was similar in SC4. I made very effective use of the block ability, much to the frustration of my friend. However, he worked on beating my blocks, and eventually he got better then me... then I worked on getting better at him, using different techniques.

If your friends can't counter the dodge roll, or USE the dodge roll... they just suck, and need to stop complaining. I mean, how hard is it to hold a trigger down and press left or right?
