Yes actually, I have. Quite a few in fact. But this story was entirely freaking linear. I had no options, no way to get extra equipment other than FIND it, the story made no sense, so why the hell should I appreciate a half-assed game?

The story for most every JRPG is linear. In fact you'd probably be hard pressed to find many JRPGs not linear in story.

As for 'only able to find extra equipment'....duh? What else do you expect it to do, drop out of the sky?

The story made plenty of sense if you paid attention.

No, I expect it to drop from monsters.

Didn't pay attention? 14 hours of playtime, halfway through Disc 2, and I STILL don't understand half the plot.

Ah, but in most JRPGS I can't feel the linearity closing on me. Crisis Core is a pretty damned good example of what I feel a JRPG should feel like. I don't care if the story is linear as hell, as long as you give me a decent amount of sidequests.

tough call. I'd stick with Dragon Age unless you're a jrpg fanatic. graphically FFXIII crushes Dragon Age but the fun factor and the typical Bioware morality(kill him!) makes it more enjoyable on second and even third playthroughs. I like Final fantasy but the things I don't like about it I REALLY don't like about it.

Dear People,

To those who thought FF13 had a "Great Story", I'm not denying that. I'm a Square Enix fan, and I hated FF13. Worst. FF Game. Ever. Snow made me want to kill him after his freaking opening (Hope was pissed as HELL at him, he never notices), Hope was an emo ***** until he and Lightning go off, then he became fun, but the fact that you people call it an RPG is laughable. Show me one point in the story where I can pick what I do.

Go on. I'll wait.
In this Post: People playing a JRPG and expecting it to be a WRPG. Seriously, you're surprised you don't get to choose your own story? Jesus Heroin Snorting Christ man, have you ever played a JRPG before?

They really do need to put him back at the top of the summon tree.

Oh, and make summons not shit for once, thanks.
They're useful in FFXIII, but only for taking Oretoises off their feet. That's about it. FFX summons were awesome.

In 13 he is Bahamut Prime, King of the Transformers
He's still King of the Dragons, he just happens to also be a Transformer. He's a Dragon Transformer. How is that not cool?
Because he'll end up getting T-Bagged like Shiva :(

I'd get FFXIII just because I'd highly recommend Dragon Age for the PC, the way God (Bioware) intended it to be. I played the console version and my roomie had the PC version... very different beasts.

Personally, I found Dragon Age to be a much deeper experience. FFXIII is a tad shallow, though that's a generous statement really. In DA:O I was often caught up in dialogue trees, disecting my options and strategically placing people and issuing orders in battle, even on the console. In FFXIII, I frequently press the Auto-Battle button while sometimes pressing L1.

Not to sound like a hater or anything. The game's not terrible, I mean I was expecting it to fall flat on it's face. It's just that I can only play it for an hour or two before getting bored. Pretty graphics, but less of an RPG than ever before.

If you like games where your character fights like he is too weak to properly hold his sword and swings it like a kid swinging a sledge hammer and games where the big selling point is talking to people in engaging conversations and games where you level up but the enemies are always a level above you so levelling feels like there is no difference being made to character progression then go for dragon age.

Or if you don't like any of that but like sex sounds then still, go for dragon age.

I haven't tried the new final fantasy yet though, I would go for it because iv'e never played a final fantasy game and want something new to test with my rumble pad.

I own both, and trust me that Dragon Age is better. I'm an FF Fan, and FF13 was a letdown. I checked my playtime, and save playtime blocks out cutscenes.

Here's what it was:

4 hours. Of cutscenes.

I'd watched 2 movies of pretty cutscenes.

Dragon Age gives a bunch of freedom, and my Dad has watched both games, says DA has better graphics, and is better overall.

Just my opinion.

To the People saying that DA:O Is Bland And Generic: Oh yes. Totally. You know what else is bland and generic?

"Hey, lets go save the world!"

That's the beginning of FF13. Here's what I've got from it so far:

"Hey Person-with-weird-hair! Let's have an epic backstory that will be slowly revealed, start a game where the player for the first 1 1/2 hrs is going "WTF IS GOING ON" and when halfway through disc two feels the linearity closing in on him make it even MORE linear!"
Your dad is blind. I haven't player any FFs, but after one DA playthrough, I'd had enough.

I'm not a fan of JRPGs due to their (usually) strict linearity and from what i understand FF XIII is quite an offender in that regard, by not allowing you to go anywhere the story doesn't dictate.

that said i will probably play it eventually, but for my money "western" RPGs and Dragon Age in particular, is the way to go.

I personally prefer Dragon Age Origins.
Final Fantasy 13 is probably the worst of the series so far

I'm definitely enjoying Dragon Age more than I'm enjoying FFXIII, despite being biased against the former. FFXIII just doesn't seem to hold my interest. The storytelling is rather shoddily executed and the characters are generally unlikeable.

Dragon Age, more freedom and replay value. FFXIII is somewhat a fun game.
