Baldur's Gate did that for me.
I freaking love that game.
I never relised why that game is so popular. All i've played is a GBA version which i did not like much. Why is it so good?
No no no, don't touch any Baldur's Gate that isn't on the PC.
The PC version is the game to play. A tactical RPG with a phenomenal story. The Baldur's GAte Saga (On the PC, remember) is, to me, the best RPG series ever, and the best games I've played. Ever since I bought it in '97, it has always been installed on my computer. If I got a new computer? It's the first thing installed. Always.
Great games, fantastic RPGs. That's how my love for Bioware came about.
Thank you very much for saying it for me.
I recently met this guy and we got talking about videogames. I mentioned Baldur's Gate II on the PC was my favourite game of all time, and he promptly called me an idiot, claiming 'Baldur's Gate isn't on the PC, it's a Gamecube game',
I almost impaled him.

You're an idiot, you know that?

Thats right. Blame the game. Not your amazing lack of will.

When I get drunk and maudlin, I start thinking about what I could have achieved at Uni if I didn't play computer games. Then, I sober up and realize that if I wasn't wasting time on gaming, I would be wasting it on something else anyways.

Two essays due next week
One more due week after
Presentation this Friday
Dissertation outline due two weeks from now
Only 2/3 way through first DA:O playthrough, still only lvl 24 on first Borderlands character

If Bioware are able to create this level of addiction in an offline single player RPG, then what's gonna happen when The Old Republic goes live??!!
oh thats going to hurt, a good hurt though.

having an everyday 8 to 5 office job destroys my soul enough to not get that caught up in a game. a friend of mine, however, failed some college courses and proceeded to drop out of college because of Final Fantasy 11

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I got sucked into wow when I was doing flight training and I remember cutting a couple flights short to get home and play it and also I did very little studying since I would rather be working on my warrior

The short answer is the GBA version has very little to do with the PC game being referred to. Icewind Dale (similar in most ways other than specific characters and setting) was the first game that kept me playing through strength of story alone. Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale still rank highly on my list of favorite RPG's of all time.

Sorry buddy but I will call you out on it, the game did not ruin your life, YOU did. You're acting like all those assholes in the media who blame video games for influencing unstable fucks to cause harm to others. You could have simply put the controller down or shut off your comp or whatever and just walk away, doesn't matter how addicting any game is, it's that simple.

Not trying to seem assholish but it's the damn simple reality. Just like how you can't technically consider guns and weapons to be evil. They are just tools built my humans. They are not evil. Only the people who use them to harm others and who designed them for malevolent purposes are evil.

And no, this has never happened to me. No simple piece of technology can consume my life. The internet can't, and neither can video games do that.

Ha, fair. I'm fully aware that moderation is subjective. I play alot, but I don't have a girlfriend, or studies...or even a desire to be out socialising. Although, if I had to limit my gaming time...I could.

I hope you're joking, because if you aren't you should seek help :S

I too like the game very much but I do not allow it to control my life.

Let's hope he is the only game(s) that have destroyed my life are Elder Scrolls III+IV and Fallout 3

and DA:O isnt that in depth (The Great Wall of China of text and wording) and no real negative impact on "Hey,f*** you" or "Here is 5 silver" (ok so I cant screw the rogue, the templar, the witch, or the bi elf) but come on....its a wall of text and a lot of blood....
