Dragon Age: Origins: Worst RPG-trailer ever?

I really liked the ad. I'm not a Marilyn Manson fan, nor do I even know how to spell his name, but I've liked a few of his songs.

I agree with your belief that this wasn't suited for an RPG as the ad is far more action packed then the game however.

But the advert was way cool! Just like the game.

I'd think it was cooler if they used more awesome rock-music though...

True but your definition of more awesome rock music may be well different to mine and a million other peoples. I'd say something like Nightwish has the right sort of feel for an RPG, grandiose, haunting, and pretty. You and the majority of others may think I'm a nonce for thinking that. By going with someone commercially largely successful and well known like Manson they at least guarantee that a chunk of rock lovers will approve.

Which is why I said "I'd think it was cooler". I'm well aware everyone does not share my taste in music.

True to some extent, but anyone that has never played a bioware game that gets "fooled" into buying it and is a dissapoint just can't appreciate a quality game. If I was expecting a 6 hour hack and slash action title and got 80 hours of briliantly scripted epic RPG fun- id be pretty pleased.

watch the Diablo series that's Mindless killing... and it's successful (i know about the story)
all I'm saying is that if the battles are cool in a RPG it's a plus for me and the battle in DA:O is kinda like in the clip

Except you don't block, you just take hits, you only do 3-4 different attacks unless you use a special-attack, and kill-animations are rare.

This trailer does not look very RPG-ish. Then again, neither did the dragon-slaying one either.

I'd say that you can criticize a game for it's marketing. It doesn't affect the game play or the game in general, but it affects peoples views on it from an outsider standpoint.

So they tricked people, who wouldn't normally have played an RPG, into playing it thinking it was going to be action packed?
I bet most of them loved it anyway, and the game makes more money so they'll keep making more. Win for everyone, me especially.

Most people affected by false marketing I find becomes mad, not giving it a chance. I think the Watchmen movie was pretty darn epic, but a lot of people hated it because it wasn't action. Sweeney Todd was also awesome, but people didn't like it because it was a musical.

False advertisement makes people go against it the instant they find out it is false, no matter how good it is.

You're right, but I'm in fanboy mode and insisting that Dragon age is the exception. Both those movies were very cool.

They never once said it was an action game, you just assumed.
No laws are being broken, nothing was misrepresented. They just showed some fighting (Of which there is plenty of in Dragon Age) and played some 'hardcore' music. If you jump to the conclusion that it's an action game based on that, then you're just the sort of mook that marketing guys love.
