Rap, Hip-Hop, Country, Pop, and some Punk. Any of the above is punishable by ass kicking if someone switches my radio from any of my set rock or metal stations, same goes for telling me I should expand my tastes.

Well my music taste is pretty diverse, so if someone said that to me I'd tell them they're talking out their arse and I know more about music than they ever will.
People tend to stereotype you a lot if you like metal. Sigh...

A couple of kids from my class once lectured me for loving music from the 60's and not caring to catch up with today's pop hits. I ignored them.
I wish I could be like David Watts
Fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa

Name that song, fellow 60s music lover!
He is the captain of the team. He is so gay and fancy free. And I wish all his money belonged to meeeee. . .

That would be David Watts.

People tell me it all the time even though library goes from ABBA to Bob Marley then into Burzum, they just assume that because I wear nothing but metal tour shirts that all I listen to is metal.

I continued listening to Dr Steel and Mindless Self Indulgence and told them to leave my taste in music alone.

I'm usually that guy. Although, the old ladies, ar my job, told me to listen to their country.

I'll listen anything other than country music.

Note* Stupid country music! Justin Bieber seems like something nice compare to that.

Nope. That's because everyone usually agrees that nothing but Iron Maiden is perfectly fine. Sure, you CAN have more, but it isn't necessary.

My musical tastes could hardly be more expansive. Likely, I'm probably guilty of saying that to others :p

Nope, people dont tell me this.

I think it's because I have no specific tastes in music really. Sure I have certain genres or sounds I prefer over others bu on the whole I will listen to anything, as long as it pleases my ears. So yeah, I listen to plenty of music already, although there's always room for more :)

I just respond with "sure, but match me track for track". If you're going to play me thrash metal, cool. Not my favourite genre, but if it means you sit down and listen to some rap rather than hearing a beat and thinking "it's all guns bitches and bling", I can put up with it. Hell, without it I never would have heard of the King Blues.

No one can really say that in a serious manner to me.Because I listen to a wide spectrum of music. And to prove it to you,I'll flip through 10 songs in my iTunes, and tell what band it is.

1.Deep Purple.
2.White Stripes.
3.Bloodhound Gang.
4.Overkill.
5.Black Sabbath.
6.Ai Otsuka.
7.Denis Leary.
8.Mötorhead.
9.Týr.
10.Danzig.

Now while most of those are rock,I enjoy such artists as SlipKnot,Behemoth,Utada Hikaru,Opeth and many, many, many more.<color=Aliceblue>I even enjoy a little bit of Lady GaGa.

I have a friend who listens to exactly three bands (Jethro Tull, Dire Straits and Steely Dan) and while I agree they are good, I often tell him he should listen to more music. He usually just ignores it, though.

I listen to mostly classic rock/progressive rock and metal.

Even then people can't really say that phrase to me, because I listen to anything to give it the benefit of the doubt.

People don't tell me I should listen to more music. They tell me I should give up on my tastes and listen to mainstream music like everyone else they know. Yeah... it never ends well.

I started listening to Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation and Sonata Arctica, and never doubted that decision since.

Well, someone bitched at me for not liking hip hop, but they didn't tell me to expand my tastes per se.
