I'd like to point out something, kind of important.

This game has elements which some of you hardcore FPS players have seen before, right? Well, Jack isn't too far into the FPS seen, not as much as most any of you, so some of these elements? First time for Jack. This is not even old to me, so why spoil it for anyone else who's just getting in, eh? Answer: No good reason you can justify.

Thank you for your time.

I'm not sure why you're so vehemently hating on other games, especially since most of the games (including DNF) have a huge commonality: regenerating health.

that in and of itself prevents DNF from being a classic shooter (and not cover based)

obviously you're entitled to your opinion, and I can't comment on whether DNF is good or bad, since I haven't played it, but I can't imagine a game with such a long development time and immense hype behind it living up to the expectations.

Fun, but still doesn't make it a good game. I enjoy it, but cannot deny that the game is pretty badly designed (mechanically and graphically). It could have been so much more. But I hear where you're coming from.

Looking forward to seeing it get ripped apart by Yahtzee though. It has pleeenty to pick on. ^_^.

Why should the Escapist (or more particularly, Russ Pitts) be ashamed for having an opinion that differs from yours?

If you like the game, go ahead and enjoy it. To each their own.
Well, Russ Pitts couldn't even be bothered to finish a ten hour game for the purposes of doing the job he's paid to do--not to mention is generally an idiot--so. . .
I'd say writing a three-page review and making a companion video constitutes being bothered to do something.
And if you think the people who run this site are idiots, then why the Hell are you hanging around here?
I mean, I can tell from this post that you either did not read the rules or you don't give a damn, and if its the latter, then why not find a place that better suits your taste?

Why "shame on The Escapist"? Russ Pitts is entitled to his opinion about the game and, when he reviewed the game, he obviously thought it sucked. Just because you thought it was good doesn't mean that his opinion is any less valid.

So you enjoyed the game. Good for you! I hope you thought it a worthwhile purchase! But please bare in mind that just because someone disagrees with you does NOT mean that they should be ashamed of they're opinion. I'd think more carefully before using the phrase "shame on you" next time.

Also, this thread lacks discussion value, e.g. "what did you think of the game?" "Do you think The Escapist scored fairly?" etc etc. Sigh, standards have fallen in this place me thinks...

*grumbles about the "good old days"*

What's with all the apologists over DMF trying to argue it's still worthwhile because it's oldschool and "but it's the Duuuuuke"?

The Demo was horrible to look at and boring to play, and even if the full game might (and, well, probably) fares a bit better, i can still have much more fun with Serious Sam TFE,TSE and 2 as well as Bulletstorm (that actually surprised me by delivering a story that wasn't forgettable shit) when it comes to mindless shooting with macho-humor.

...

You see the problem here?
^^ exactly, you can't shame us for hating a game we thought was Crap. similarly we can't shame you for liking it. anyway let's all wait and see what yahtzee has to say (The escapist review is already up)

Didn't care when it was delayed a billion times, don't care now. I also heard that the Escapist isn't the only one that gave it a bad review.

I was scared when I bought it. After all these horrible review on this site (which I find to be a moderately trustworthy when it comes to reviews) I was expecting dissapointment, but I bought it anyway, and I freaking love it. I love the humor, the gameplay is surprisingly fun, the vehicle sections are a bit clunky, but that doesn't bother me a whole lot.
However, everyone else is entitled to their own oppinion on DNF, and if they didn't like it, that makes sense. It's not the type of game that appeals to everyone. However, it appeals to me, and if anyone has a problem with that, react the same way you would if you were to see them driving down town with the girl you love: Forget Them.

I would dismiss this as just random flaming, but after that letter to Obsidian he wrote...I'm inclined to agree. Also, if my job was just to play games, I would damn well finish them.

stupid modern editions? Like the gambling or slapping wall tits? HOw about the doing curl ups in the mirror to make "ego" bar increase? (lol)

classic shooting: Here I MEANT that its not cover based like Gears or Call of Duty.. or every new FPS these days. Enemies teloport around, or charge and you run/ dodge and shoot or punch or throw feces back.
It is cover based
You die horribly without cover. Dodging enemy attacks is almost impossible and the game discourages the very famous tactic known as circle strafing in the single player(except bosses)
The game just isn't run and gun. The weapon lack enough ammo to go charging around in crazy. Not to mention I just cannot carry more than 2 weapons. That is exactly what we call shit design.
Explain how the two weapon and regenerative health helps the game?

No, it was absolute garbage. I've played through it, and I found it to be an absolutely irredeemable piece of shit. Apparently, more people think it was bad than good. A quick look at Metacritic is a good indicator.

Sigh, that's not what they meant and you know that's not what they meant. You're just saying "Well how about THIS!" and trying undermine the counter argument. It just makes you look dishonest so I'd advice against doing it.

They meant namely the 2 gun limit, brown color palette, linearity, regenerating health bar.

I think your not taking into account the fact this game promised more then it was available to deliver.

This game promised to be an old school shooter and throwback to classic fps games, what we got instead was a game with simplistic gameplay reminiscent of ps2 fps games. The nail on the coffin was all the "Modernisms" like only carrying two weapons.

Honestly I'm more excited for Serious Sam 3, at least that game isn't going to lie to people, and it offers exactly what we wanted with DNF.

Your right...

I did wish he could carry at least 3,but not that big of a deal, neither is health bar regeneration, but since its EGO now it makes sense that health packs would make less sense... shoulda picked up porn or look in mirrors to regenerate health too.

I disagree.

I don't like it because I played the old ones. If I hadn't played the old ones, I might have just ignored that it existed, like a JRPG.

But I have played the old ones, and it decided to change everything that made it Duke Nukem in the first place.
