I've read the posts and it looks like it wasn't the first "pro-EA" topic this guy started.
Though I am not sure that this is a PR/marketing guy. It might have been someone from EA or Maxis who worked on the game and wanted to post a few more positive opinions after seeing all the rage about the game's launch on the internet. If it was something I worked on for a few years I would definitely try to defend it. Not identifying himself was the problem, not the content of his post.
Also, I assume that he wasn't banned without a warning or at least a talk with an admin.
