Eldar 6th edition release in a week

I know everyone is talking about the awful Xbox One reveal for the most part but I've been pretty meh over it since I heard about the new Eldar update.

I'm not sure if this website has alot of 40k enthusiasts who actively game but I just wanted a guage of what the reception would be from other Eldar players out there.

Tommorow the White Dwarf confirming the release ships and pre-orders go up for the release next week and I have to say I am absolutely ecstatic. I've been waiting for an Eldar update for 7 years and its finally coming to do the ol' space elves some justice.

Theres plenty of dedicated tabletop forums out there with all sorts of leaked specifics so I won't go into it since GW is issuing C and Ds to most forums that so much as whisper 'wraithbone'. The releae is heavily Wraith-themed however, with a huge Wraith-construct being released that is the largest model in the standard game.

Have you heard anything on the release if you are a 40k gamer? Are you excited?

Or am I speaking to a non-existent escapist wargaming community?

Quite alot.

Randomised warp powers for phsykers.
Randomised charge distances.
Space Tomb King Necron retcon
Flying land raiders
Tau super-gundam battlesuits.

6th edition made the game more cinematic and all that nonsense.
Its still expensive as hell though.

Specifically to Eldar I think the new codex is just a fix to bring them back into the areas of domination they used to have. Specialised units, powers and speed with some Wraith units for flair.

The guy shooting will hit on a 4+ and if the weapon ignores the armour of the dude in cover or the cover save, in this case 4+, is better than his other saves then the wound is negated on a 4+. I don't think there was much change there, only now there are aload of things than can improve cover saves like Night Fighting and Stealth.

Randomised charge distance is just roll 2d6 and that how far is charged, if it doesn't get to the target then the charge fails.

Ooooh cool! I don't know much about the (filthy) xenos, and of that I think I know least about the Eldar. But I've looked through the models and some of the fluff and it's pretty cool. I hear they're absolutely mental on the psyker/melee front. I look forward to getting the chance to lock blades and minds with an updated and powerful, if filthy and heretical, bunch.

Next I'd like a Grey Knight codex that opens with the phrase "We're sorry about the dreadknight, here's something less ridiculous". I don't object so much to the concept, as the damn baby carrier on the front.

Okay, no, nevermind. Lets start with something simpler; a fellow with a BS of 3 shooting at a dude in heavy cover. How does that work these days?

The guy shooting will hit on a 4+ and if the weapon ignores the armour of the dude in cover or the cover save, in this case 4+, is better than his other saves then the wound is negated on a 4+. I don't think there was much change there, only now there are aload of things than can improve cover saves like Night Fighting and Stealth.

Randomised charge distance is just roll 2d6 and that how far is charged, if it doesn't get to the target then the charge fails.

Lesser players may not talk to Eldar players, though they may be permitted to say "thank you sir, may I have another?" during play. Oh Eldar are not the most broke army anymore, though they will be after the update if the rumours of the Wraithknight are true and Shuriken weapons. The arrogance is still their but their current codex was really showing its age.

Most overpowered army goes to either the Draigo-wing Grey Knights with 2 wound terminators, Dedicated transport Necron fliers that can field around 9 in 1500 point games or the triple CHaos Helldrake lists.

3rd ed Eldar were neither broken nor unbalanced; it just so happened that everyone who didn't collect Eldar were rubbish players.

I don't see how 2 wound termies are OP. I mean; how much do they cost? I am guessing each one costs the same as an entire squad of impy guard. In 3rd ed, they may have fixed this, I don't know, you used to be able to field 110 impy gaurdsmen in a 750 point game and still have points left over for a Leman Russ.

110 men. I saw it happen once; the guy barely had enough room in the deployment zone to fit all of his lads. He was playing against Spacewolves who had 3 squads. Ridiculous.

Oooh! What have they done with the transport rules? I take it from the mentioning of Necron transports they've made them less useless?

I know everyone is talking about the awful Xbox One reveal for the most part but I've been pretty meh over it since I heard about the new Eldar update.

I'm not sure if this website has alot of 40k enthusiasts who actively game but I just wanted a guage of what the reception would be from other Eldar players out there.

Tommorow the White Dwarf confirming the release ships and pre-orders go up for the release next week and I have to say I am absolutely ecstatic. I've been waiting for an Eldar update for 7 years and its finally coming to do the ol' space elves some justice.

Theres plenty of dedicated tabletop forums out there with all sorts of leaked specifics so I won't go into it since GW is issuing C and Ds to most forums that so much as whisper 'wraithbone'. The releae is heavily Wraith-themed however, with a huge Wraith-construct being released that is the largest model in the standard game.

Have you heard anything on the release if you are a 40k gamer? Are you excited?

Or am I speaking to a non-existent escapist wargaming community?

I never really got into the gaming side (mostly because I had nobody to play with) but I still try to keep up with the back story and art works.

Do they usually include background stuff in the codex's?

It's about time that the eldar got some assault transports (serpents should get a ramp). The disparity between the mechanized infantry assault capabilities of the eldar and their codex-contemporaries make the current eldar rules look prehistoric.

Banshees are some of the least mobile melee shock troops in the game, by pure virtue of eldar's shit transports. This is just not as it should be.

And I'm complaining like this as a dark eldar / daemons player who merely knows and pities his eldar friend and opponent.

3rd ed Eldar were neither broken nor unbalanced; it just so happened that everyone who didn't collect Eldar were rubbish players.

I don't see how 2 wound termies are OP. I mean; how much do they cost? I am guessing each one costs the same as an entire squad of impy guard. In 3rd ed, they may have fixed this, I don't know, you used to be able to field 110 impy gaurdsmen in a 750 point game and still have points left over for a Leman Russ.

110 men. I saw it happen once; the guy barely had enough room in the deployment zone to fit all of his lads. He was playing against Spacewolves who had 3 squads. Ridiculous.

Don't know about transport rules, but OP forgot about Overwatch. Basically, when a unit is charged, they are allowed t fire their weapons at the unit charging at them, but at BS 1 (hitting on 6's). Since it allows for use of rapid-fire if in range, Tau Fire Warriors are almost unassaultable now, unless you're either incredibly lucky or have extremely tough units doing the charging. Usually at least 20 S5 shots tears through normal infantry. Added to the fact they can markerlight anything they bloody want with a choice of three different flavors of markerlighting (ignore cover, +1 BS and I forget the other one), anything thats not something like a carnifex tends to die in my experience.


On topic, I am so pumped for the new codex. We're getting two new Eldar-only psychic disiplines, a new Ranger hero unit, Eldrad is mastery lvl 4, [i/]and[/i] shruiken weapons are gonna get a ridiculously good upgrade-its gonna be so awesome.

Codex's are pretty good for background stuff, yeah. At least a general overview anyway. Although the last Tau one was crap. I'm thinking of picking up the new one at some point and bringing my Tau up to speed, since I'm getting a little bit sick have having 'Eat faces. Repeat. Win? No? Next time, eat more faces.' as my strategy.
