MMO's destroy franchises. No more sequels that build on the last iteration. Nope just an MMO that gets older every year.

Say hello to the following same old tired formula:
quest for gear that doesnt matter...
Get to max level and grind pve or pvp for gear that only matters for a month or so.

No matter what franchise you wanna color it, its still the same paint job.

How many other single player franchises will die to the MMO virus?

considering Bethesda isn't making the mmo there is nothing to stop them from making another SP ES game.

You are right, the franchise is definately ruined ,despite knowing nothing about the game. In fact all that stands between me and slapping you on the head is your beutiful beutiful avatar.

Despite knowing nothing about the game, I know it is ruined.

True story.
Stop being selfish and think about the immersion!! It's all some ppl have in life. Their sweet sweet immersion!
I'm getting a mental image of a 'immersion adicts anonymous' group.
It is terrifying.
Go to bioware forums and look up something related to tali and picture them in a room together. Terrifying indeed

He knows it's an MMO. That tells you something.

If this is an offshoot project then I'm more hopeful. However, Kotor and Warcraft created a rule where once a franchise has an MMO, the single player iterations cease. Devs decide to continue the canon through the MMO.

Unfortunately story telling is butchered in MMO's due to their multiplayer nature. Everything becomes less personal. Players become nameless soldiers rather than the focus of the story.

SWTOR did a great job with its origin story lines. Your character has personality, you have allies with personality and develop relationships with them. The story is engaging and personal. You have *choices* instead of being railroaded into the generic hero. But even there you can see understandable cuts that single player games like Mass effect would have been able to fully explore.

MMO's dont have the ability to sell a world the way single player games can. They cant waste resources on non combat quests that exist only to deepen immersion. Everything boils down to the basic gather X, Kill Y, turn in at Z. At max level Immersion dies a horrible death, as everything becomes numbers and *playing the right way* to surpass the next man.

Again SWTOR questing is a much needed move away from this, but its still limited by the platform.
To their credit WoW has also tried, but text bubbles are lame in 2012. We barely let Zelda get away with them.

Immersion? In an Elder Scrolls game?
Heh... *wipes tear*
I love The Elder Scrolls, but let's be honest, there wasn't any immersion to start with. Also, we know NOTHING.
NOTHING.
About this at all. It could be a ground-breaking new style of MMO that blows everything out of the water, stop acting like a child.

Bethesda has been indoctrinated! D:

I won't play it, they'd have to take out everything I like about the Elder scrolls to make it into an mmo :/

Someone said it will happen in the past (2nd age-ish) so it wont stop a sequel to skyrim.

Edit: you can't make a sequel if the game before is ongoing, any dlc or new things added would cause problems as their would be contradictions. the 2nd age is so far back in the past it shouldn't affect the 4th age too much

Even if it's good, It'll still be destroyed by World of Warcraft in the end. Come on guys, not everything has to be an MMO

I disagree. Skyrim only ever broke my immersion when something glitchy happened. Otherwise everything felt authentic. The devs went out of their way to create a believable skyrim. Look down and you see ants, look up and you see a dragon in the distance. Go inside and you will find books to read. Go outside and you will see someone protesting the nordic way of living.

I never once felt the need to look up rotations or grind out the best gear set. Sure it was something I could do, but skyrim is nowhere near the numbers game that wow is. Skyrim = you are the dragonborne play how you want. WoW= thats your 5th toon with the jenkins title, play how you are told to for competitive dps or gtfo.

Yes the incredibly reliable logic of 'they changed it, now its ruined forever!' You provided no reasoning behind why you think it will be less immersive beyond 'you can't steal from PCs'. If that's your definition of immersion then you need to do more research into immersion. Without any good arguments to support your point I therefore find your entire thread lacking. Good day Sir.

It is NOT ruined, for the simple reason that Daggerfall and Skyrim still exist.

Don't like the MMO? DON'T BUY IT. Boom, you're virtually unaffected.

No.
It's not ruined. Just because they're making an MMO, a type of game YOU may not like, hardly means the franchise is ruined. Possibly for you, but not for others. Safe to say though, I won't be subscribing. I don't really like MMO's either, but I doubt they'll stop making elder scrolls games after that y'know. So just wait it out, and get the next game.

You know, if you don't like the MMO, you can just not buy it or play it. In fact you can pretend it doesn't exist if you really want to.

If TES goes the same way that Warcraft, Neverwinter Nights and Kotor did, then yes. It is ruined, by taking a very special franchise with long-standing history, style and fanbase, and instead add it to the ever-growing pool of crap that is the over-saturated MMO market.

THERE ARE TOO MANY MMOS ALREADY. WE DON'T NEED MORE.

I want Warcraft 4. I want Kotor 3 (SWTOR felt like a watered-down and hollowed out Kotor 3 with a chat pane), Neverwinter Nights 3...Fuck MMOS, 99% are all the same and they all take way too much time and money.
Compare to kotor 3 SWTOR and yes TOR is watered down. Compared to other mmo questing experiances, Swtor is by far the most engaging. Ive done rift, wow, aion and swtor. Swtor is by far the best presented and the companion system is something that I hope sticks in future mmo's.

I agree all mmo's are the same deal at the core.

Sequels drive the medium forwards. We get new mechanics added to the game series. Devs have to sit together and brainstorm ways to make sequels different from the original. Ways to improve the game fundamentally.
MMO's ruin this. All we get are expansions that build on the same old mechanics of years past.

MMO's are expensive to make, but the pay off is that its relatively cheap to add on to what you have, rather than create from scratch. WoW has been milking that baby for seven years now.

I love the negativity in this thread. even though it isnt out yet, people still whine about it.
Yeah because we have no idea what an MMO is like. So tell me, are we suppose to either say something positive or nothing at all?
Nothing at all.

Why do you think I have no comment yet on Halo 4?

As much as I am terrified that it may suck, I say nothing because I may be wrong about it. The same could be said about every other upcoming game.
