I love these new Elder Scrolls MMO threads... Making judgments despite knowing nothing about the game and acting as if they're going to force you to buy it.

(Lets not even mention the fact it's being made by a separate studio and has been in development for 5 years already.)

Yeah because we have no idea what an MMO is like. So tell me, are we suppose to either say something positive or nothing at all?
Nothing at all.

Why do you think I have no comment yet on Halo 4?

As much as I am terrified that it may suck, I say nothing because I may be wrong about it. The same could be said about every other upcoming game.
So much for balanced discussion.

Oh christ.

I think I'll just copy/paste all my posts about SWTOR and do a quick search/replace on the names.

Good single player games do not make good MMOs.
Warcraft One was a single player game (Bnet wasn't around) and yet it made the most popular MMO ever.
True. I played Orcs and Humans back in the day and I could never have imagined it would turn into something like WoW. I just don't think that kind of lightning strikes twice.

That said (I've thought this over a bit more since my original post) if this new MMO stays true to the sandbox design philosophy of the Elder Scrolls series it could be big. There's a real lack of high profile, big budget sandbox MMOs out there - a whole slice of the market that this game could grab without having to go toe to toe with WoW.

But if it's just a standard fantasy themepark MMO with a TES paintjob it'll be no more than an also-ran, like all the rest.

The only way to balance this discussion after the OPs intro, is if someone else raves about how awesome this game will be and how it will shit on every game ever made by anyone... that includes the most famous game of all, The Universe, by Gods Will studios.

The person would also have to cream their pants and suffer a fatal heart attack from the euphoria.

Then this discussion would be closer to balance... in that the bullshit and wild speculation would be exactly equal.

Apparently
-The game has a hubless quest system

-Three factions
--Ebonheart pact: Nords, Dunmer, Argoanion
--Aldmeri dominion: Altmer, Bosmer, Khajiit
--Daggerfall Covenant: Orcs, Redguards, Bretons

-the Imperials are "badguys" work with the Tharn family and Manimmarco, Manimmaro is selling everyone out to Molag ball

-120 hours to reach level cap

-Werewolf plague

-Your Character has had his soul taken by Molag ball, which is why you can come back to life if you "die"

-They take some of Gw2 mechanics were your weapons determine some of your skills, there is also doddging, skill combos, and other GW2isy things.

Okay, can you people at least try? I mean, feel free to be ridiculous and irrational and make massive assumptions, but try to make a little bit of sense.

Here's how I see it. As a play by post writer, I see this as a new way for fans to get different immersion into the games, role playing games in the TES verse would be huge, the massive maps and detail and just pure scale and freedom would practically abduct you if you're a roleplay writer. I myself used to roleplay on WoW, and that doesn't have nearly the scale and depth of TES.

So stop whining about no immersion, just immerse with others. I assume you made it k-8 without failing because you can write, so share. And we get to whack dragons and Daedra along the way with our friends and brothers and sisters? Hell. Yes.

if cap is that easy they better have a ton of end game events and dungeons. FF11 used to take weeks to hit lv cap one a job and your char could switch between 20 jobs at anytime. By the time you hit lv cap you'd have end game for your main job and lving up others on off time. Im hoping scrolls doesnt just have you constantly lving up different chars and getting gear all over again for each.

How exactly is the franchise ruined?

The MMO isn't even out so theres not even any proof but assuming it is a flop, does that suddenly make every single good Elder Scrolls game bad?

The logic here....melts my brain.

Almost the entirety of Cyrodiil is a giant three way PVP zone and the person who gets the most points for the winning side becomes emperor, temporarily.

Also you can join guilds including the mages guilds, and fighters guild. the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild are ocnfirmed to be in the game also but the means to get rep in them is currently unknown.

Yes!!! Definitly buying this one!

Please let it be set up like a normal elderscrolls game, fps view, dungeons everywhere,, skill system and all.

Hmm but those random caves will be full of people won't they? Perhaps a guild wars style system where the wilds are instances? Then you can wander around alone all you like.

Edit: Sometimes in an mmo it's fun just to wander alone, and mmos are always adding new land.

We could finally have another Tamriel wide ES game.

it isnt a FPS view.

also they said they are going with a class system but its kinda more like Gw2 where it isnt a DPS/TANK/Healer thing.

Ehm yeah... About that.
It's a third person MMO with hotkey combat.
Oh and it has cartoony graphics. Enjoy.

The combat seems more GW2ish then WoWish

skill combos, blocking, dodging, a supposed lack of reliance on the DPS/TANK/HEALER triniy

They did say there are plenty of random dungeons/cave/ruins to explore which quests you wont be told about.

So they are trying to keep the games exploration focus.

MMO's come and fall just as quickly as they arrived these days. If they're not copying WoW, they're worse than WoW. I'll still be watching this game, but I'm not jumping out of my seat.

Bah, why do they need to give us a class system. I know it's a dirty word around here but Runescape was an mmo that worked perfectly fine without one. Just setup the way gear works to discourage everyone making the same spell warrior in plate armour.
