http://www.nytimes.com/video/2013/05/12/business/media/100000002220706/equestria-girls-trailer.html?ref=media above is a link to hasbros new take on MLP:FIM now I'm no bronie so this has little impact on me I'm just spreading the news around so that everyone can take cover before the bronies burn down the internet.
Of course it wont survive, and then hasbro will pull a retcon out of the deepest part of there ass and MLP will go back to being about ponies set in equestrian. I just think that not all bronies are going to be reasonable and think it through to it logical conclusion and that there will be people for whom asking you mad bro too would be appropriate .
You all realize that this is an actual, theatrical movie, right? That this is the version of MLP that gets to theaters first. Not the original show, this new thing, which Hasbro is hoping to use as the pilot for a new series. Just, you know, putting everything in context. I actually don't have a horse in this race, as I am not a fan of the show.
Honestly I don't see a lot of difference with the pony show. Same animation, same voice actors, same humor, same style, same friendship-is-good message... everything fans claim makes MLP great. So I guess they'll love it! It's just kind of a strange, money-grabbing move though. Like making an X-Men show with no actual mutants, just normal people going to high school while touching on the source themes (rejection, being an outcast, fitting in, etc.).
Here's the Youtube embed: It's...uhhh...well...ehhh....okay, I guess I'll just go with my initial impressions:
Pros:
-Meghan McCarthy is apparently the head writer. That's promising. Maybe it won't be an absolute train wreck.
-The character design doesn't look as bad as the promo art made it out to be. At least they look like actual cartoon humans (albeit with strange skin tones) instead of unsettling human/pony hybrids:
BACK! BEGONE, FOUL ABOMINATIONS! THE POWER OF CELESTIA COMPELS YOU!
-So Sunset Shimmer (Celestia's former student if the toy description is to be believed) is an antagonist? Intriguing...
-Humanized Vinyl Scratch looks pretty cool.
Cons:
-Why is Spike a dog?
-The music. I'm hoping that it's just a generic pop filler just for the trailer. FiM songwriter Daniel Ingram is supposed to be involved in this, and the trailer music is waaaaay beneath his caliber.
-Who is that guy Twilight's with? I have a sinking feeling that they might try to shoehorn a romantic subplot in there for no good reason.
-WHY THE HELL IS SPIKE A DOG?!
I'm still uneasy about Equestria Girls, but I keep reminding myself I was skeptical about FiM before I actually sat down and watched it. I'll at least give it a chance before I reach a final conclusion.
I have a feeling. It's a small feeling. But consider this: Maybe, Hasbro is not targeting the Brony community but is infact focusing on their target demographic? That is, little girls? And nothing sells like teenage girls in high schools battling with personal stuff.
It's just a thought.
I have no horse in this, but really, consider this alternative rather than thinking that everything Hasbro does with MLP, it has to be for the Brony peoples.
Huh. I was expecting a spin-off, not something set in the same universe and part of the story. This could be good, provided it's as well-written and animated as the main show is. That said, there seems to be a lot of the typical girl's stuff in this one, so maybe it'll suck.
Because, you know, Cartoon Network saw how reviled Johnny Test was and cancelled it rather quickly. On an unrelated note, it sure sucks that the whole world realizes how bad Michael Bay's movies are and drove him into crippling poverty by never seeing his films.

Shhhh! People had finally stopped talking about this! Every player in a game I join no longer asume I am an MLP fan because of my nickname! (I just like ponies damnit! REAL ones!) If you don't talk about it it doesn't exist! *sits in the fetus-position in a corner mumbling*
*Drink* ah crap, I saw that trailer. *switches to stronger Drink*
OK, it might work. Probably not, but there is a slim chance. I might give it a chance.
Now too the art.
Why do they still have wings in "human" form? I can live with the skin tones (Doug was good and they had funky skin) but why do they still have wings if spike is a dog? That is just plain bad. It probably will not show up though.
I've basically said to myself that I'm not going to watch it. What would make me stop watching the NORMAL show? IF they balls up for Season 4 as badly as Season 3. Defend S3 all you want, to me it's a pile of shit with only two good points (Magic Duel and Keep Calm and Flutter on). Other then that, I'd not stop watching it. People DO have to keep in mind that this IS a show for Little girls. No matter how much you interact with the writers and all that other stuff, it's a show for Girls and that's who it's marketed towards. We, the 'Bronies', are the untargetted audience whom some members of the Show team seem to have latched onto as 'important'. If we stopped watching? The children would still watch it. It would not matter of our opinions, for it is not for us.
Call me crazy, but I think that's Shining Armor. Kinda hard to tell, but it would explain why she seems to gravitate to him in addition to her human-form friends.
Plot hole I see is, with everypony already in this world in some form or other, wouldn't there have already been a Twilight? And where is Principal Celestia to keep down...whatever/whoever the antagonist is?
Probably going to wait for this to make it to Netflix.
