Don't tell me! I'm still on book 1.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time had a really GREAT ending which in a way could prevent any kinds of sequel. Unfortunately it did not prevent Ubisoft from creating a trilogy though and the monstrously bad ending of the latest Prince of Persia.
Don't tell me about that either! I just started playing Sands of Time. The combat is pissing me off though. Also except for the narration, I can hardly hear the voices.

Assassins Creed posed alot of questions... but it was awesome. Those clusterfuck of events really made me feel like I was the one getting done over.

A book called Pillars of the Earth was perfect. It began with a hanging that spawned injustice, hate, and tyranny, and ended with a hanging that produced justice, closure, and an end to all evil. It was just... brilliant.

Also loved the ending to Ocarina of Time. Kind of bitter-sweet.

Metal Gear Solid 1: The ending where

Meryl Dies. That was the REAL ending, and fit better all the themes from the game (i.e. How a Legend can be blown out of proportion and how Snake was just a human susceptible to failure)

As for movies, I'd have to say: The Usual Suspects, Memento, Primal Fear, Rocky, and The Good The Bad and The Ugly. Another one that I feel has an underrated ending is Green Street Hooligans. I loved Elijah wood walking off into the streets singing "Forever Blowing Bubbles" and chanting "United". Maybe its just because I'm a West Ham fan...

Mass Effect. It both offered a sense of closure while baiting a sequel at the same time.
And that incredibly cheesy epic closing screen of Commander Sheppard standing out in space.

I give Mother 3 my title for favorite ending. It's heartfelt, emotional, beautifully paced, and offers closure if you stick around.
When I saw "myself" standing there, heroically staring into space for no reason whatsoever, I cringed.
The credits song was fantastic though.

World War Z by Max Brooks. We've won, but zombies are still out there...
As for movies this year, Up (the whole theatre started clapping at the end), District 9 and Inglourious Basterds all had great endings.

Am I the only one who'd rather see a District 9 prequel along with a sequel?

The lord of the rings (books and movie)

Mass Effect (good job all around on that one)

Final fantasy x - I think they did a great job developing (some of) the characters so i actually cared about the ending.

God of War 2. Kratos brought back the Titans and they're climbing Mount Olympus. What he said was great.
