I didn?t know if this was posted yet on tumblr, so I thought I?d do it. The landmass of almost all of the provinces in Tamriel, has been put into Skyrim. All which are inaccessible(without console commands) and which serve absolutely no purpose in the game. Why are they there? I personally don?t know. But take a look at the effort Bethesta put into these seemingly pointless landmasses.

it seems pretty cool.

That is so strange. I'd have expected flat emptiness. Maybe its all testing areas left in the code? And when they were making the testing area someone recreated old zones for kicks?

I tried getting over the boundaries with collision turned off(tcl command, AKA no-clip) but it wouldn't let me, so I don't know how to get over to the other provinces of Tamriel :/

Maybe it was because they went through the arch and onto Morrowind and I went straight south because I wanted to see Cyrodill...

EDIT: Just tried getting over to Morrowind the same way the other guy did, but it still won't let me.

Also, if Bethesda really made DLC's in other provinces, or atleast in part of them... THAT. WOULD. BE. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. TITSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. GET YO TITS OUTTAAAHHH FFFFYEEAAAAHHHHH!

I think you need a different console command to get through the map bordes, it was like that in Oblivion/NV at least. Sadly, I can't recall it or I would test this immediately.

Very interesting... I highly doubt they will add in entire provinces as DLC, especially ones that have been explored before so I'm guessing they put it in for the modding community. But please oh please let me be wrong! I would LOVE to be able to explore the whole of Tamriel in one game! They did say the DLC would be bigger this time around too...

Any reports if certain geographic features are accurately created? What I mean is the Island the imperial city on there? Vvardenfell?

Didn't someone at the start of the game say they caught you trying to cross the border? Perhaps this has something to do with that?

That's odd... There shouldn't be anything left of Morrowind at all... and Hammerfell should take up 99.9% of the whole map.

Good to see they've realised they can rely on the modding community to build three quarters of the game for them nowadays.

Perhaps they roughed out the provinces they'd already made in previous games to give them some kind of scale of reference to build skyrim against. In any case its pretty cool that the engine can handle the whole of Tamriel this time around, I remember some kerfuffle about the Oblicion CS only being able to handle a certain amount of worldspaces. Cant wait to see modders try to fill some of those other regions in. Fingers crossed for Elswyer...

Sqeeee. I hope the DLC turns out to be Morrowind HD with updated Textures. I would totally pay another $60 for that. Oh Todd Howard you've made me the happiest man in the world!

Pretty cool stuff. The world map is actually a rendition of the whole game world though, just zoomed out to a massive level. It's conceivable that this mapping is there just to make the world map more realistic, although since most of this detail is not viewable on the main Skyrim map it is likely that future DLCs could 'unlock' neighbouring territories.

Hammerfell is pretty much the same size as Skyrim:

And wasn't it only the island of Vvardenfel that got obliterated when Red Mountain went nuclear?

Now wait a minute, I don't remember anything happening to Red Mountain like that. I remember beating Dagoth-Ur and the blight cleared up. When did it blow up?

From the official lore:

4E 22 - Red Mountain erupts; Vvardenfell is destroyed.
In Vivec's absence, the Ministry of Truth becomes unstable. Vuhon creates an Ingenium that uses at first dozens of dying souls, then a small number of living ones to stabilize the rock. The soul of Sul's wife Ilzheven was among them. In a fight to free her, the Ingenium is destroyed and the rock crashes into the city of Vivec with all the energy it originally had. The impact causes Red Mountain to erupt and destroys the entire island of Vvardenfell, as well as causing massive destruction to the rest of the province.

Yeah, Vvardenfell done got screwed.

Probably just a case of the dev thinking of everything [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheDevTeamThinksOfEverything].

Should make modding more interesting. After all, if the mod community can make Elsewyr [http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25023] and Valenwood [http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22555] with Oblivion, imagine what they could add if the base work is already done for them.

Oh I remember now. It was the Ministry of Truth that started it. Well.....that sucks.

It's just that the scale is all over the place. If we are to believe Daggerfall, that Iliac Bay area between Hammerfell and High rock should be about half a million square kilometers. And in Oblivion for example, the whole Cyrodiil is (if I remember correctly) about 25 square kilometers. (I don't know how big Skyrim is.) And based on Arena, the whole Tamriel should be 6 million km[sup]2[/sup].
So Arena and Daggerfall fit together just fine. The rest, not so much.

I know it's not really important. It's just that these kind of details tend to bother me a lot more than they should.

Anyway, I can't really think of what they'd do with that. I mean, all of the areas around Skyrim have been covered in previous TES games (though only a part of High rock and Hammerfell, if you don't count Arena). Who knows. I'm sure there's going to be mods.
