Hahahaha!! Damn your reviews are amazing... and you have no idea how many people I have had to argue with over 2012 being the end of the world.... funny one of such people believed that when they found big foot it was real....

Let me start off with saying the MOVIE review was great. It really was you hit everything on the head and did a great review ... with that said.

I really have never been so disgusted with a HUMAN BEING in quite sometime. Stick to doing your bloody movie reviews and keep your general opinion of people to yourself you arrogant conceded jackass. I don't believe in the whole 2012 hype, but some people truly do believe and are genuienly scared and that is not for your amusement. It's people like you who help fund psych wards and the like because you pray on those you see as weaker then yourself.

How about you do what you volunteer or get paid to do and bring us movie reviews. Nobody cares about your outlooks on life, society, or the way people think or react. It was down right stupid and just straight out rude and uncalled for and makes me just pray that 2012 ends up being the worst year of your life!! I personally think you owe the public and apology for it, but knowing the internet everyone will flock to your defense because it's the cool thing to do.

How old are you actually? Grow up.
Oh, calm down. He was reviewing a movie about the world ending in 2012, that theory would have sort have been an elephant in the room if he left it unmentioned. Also, note that you're the only one who was the slightest bit offended. I think you're overreacting a bit.

What I can't understand is why the Escapist doesn't run Bob's other video line "The GameOverthinker" That's good stuff. Introspective and meandering, but it works. Plus, isn't the Escapist gaming first?

As for this review. Cool, nice to hear, but I'm still not gonna pay ten bucks to go see it. At least when someone I know crams it in their DVD player I know I can stick around without turning on my DS.
I'm gonna guess they don't own the rights. Last I heard of Overthinker, Bob was trying to get Screw Attack to pick it up.

Hem... I was thinking that it was going to be a bad movie. Nice to see that not everything that looks like a pile of shit is not. I would as well say nice opening, the over all smack-down of the 3 groups is a big step foreword to get rid of the stupid poeple.

Okay, so... I've resisted "plugging" the companion-column up to this point; but I'm so genuinely stoked that people are responding so positively to the "shot-composition" bit in here (I'll be honest - I was a little bit hesitant that it might be tonally-incongruous, to say nothing of simply pretentious, to get all academic in what's generally supposed to be a funny show) that I feel compelled to mention that a slightly more "fleshed-out" appraisal of the director in question and his technique can be found in this week's "MovieBob: Intermission" column: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/moviebob/6772-Disasterpiece

I saw the movie. I am debating whether or not I liked it. It was overall fun and entertaining. The visuals were great in concept as Bob pointed out.

What is causing my debate is the bad science used to explain the cause of the Earth's demise. They explain it in two different scenes that we as the audience are supposed to accept together. 1. The sun puts out a normally harmless radiation that "mutates" into a harmful one to the planet. 2. The exposition why it mutated is given by a video produced by Woody Harlson's character ala Jurasic Park when they are all on that ride explaining DNA. Both reasons are really, really bad science. One ignores constant state of matter rules, the other ignores gravity's inverse square law. Nit picky I know.

I just wish they used a better reason than trying to tie the movie to the Myan calander and planetary allignment.

They could of just had the supervolcano at Yellowstone explode as it is destined to do, to trigger all the other disasters. When that one goes it will be like all of the USA nuclear stockpile going off at once in one spot.

I had no idea there was a companion column to Escape to the Movies until now. You should've plugged it earlier.

Here's the deal. 2012 is a subversive social commentary on the present state of the world economy, and the way Obama is handling it, or fucking everything up I should say. This is all wrapped up in a formuliac action movie that will completely pass over the heads of most idiots out there. The subversive part is great fun. The formulaic part is mostly tolerable and generally well done.

Fearzone... just... ah, forget it.

Wait, so it's exactly as dumb as the trailers make it look?

Gotta disagree on this one. Maybe the director is talented, but just because he knows how to "stack the building blocks" of a movie doesn't make the movie good. A well-stacked pile of crap is still a pile of crap.
I disagree. Sometimes crap can be stacked with such skill, finesse and sense of fun that it starts to resemble chocolate.

Just got back from seeing it. It's a mess of cliche'd crap, it's very predictable, it's not a "good" movie per se but man - it definitely is fun. Those up on their high-horses believing that the movie is rubbish - you're completely right, but if you want big dumb fun it doesn't come much better than 2012.

I disliked this movie intensely. I deeply regret paying for admission.
I don't agree with the review, but I still appreciated the analysis of the shot.

heh, if i said this was the review i was expecting... i'd be lying.

Still going to give this one a miss, as i'm not a fan of catalysmic type 'end of the world' movies, but this definately helped pry open my stubborn eyes to at least part of the talent in todays movie business.

Also, if Bob was wearing a yahtzee style hat, he'd be pretty much spot on my visual image i've had in my head for awhile now :p

Great review once again.

At first, I wasn't going to see this movie, but only today do I find out it's directed by Roland Emmerich (who would have been so much better-suited for the Transformers movies than Bay) and now... well, I'm sold, frankly.

As for the whole 2012 thing... well, here's my perspective: I'm not one to believe in much of anything, but I do believe in self-fulfilling prophecies. I don't HAVE to believe in the upcoming doomsday; you and I both know there's plenty of imbeciles who DO and chances are more than a few of them have itchy trigger-fingers, with some of those triggers affixed to handguns and others possibly nestled inside missile silo control rooms.

Divine Intervention/Predestination: No.
Human gullibility/self-delusion: Do I really need to say it?

the pixelation on the opening bit was laughable anyway.
laughable
EXACTLY. It serves one purpose and one purpose only. Humor. See: Robot Chicken or The Boondocks.
Boondocks on DVD, unlike other Adult Swim shows, is completely uncensored. And it's GLORIOUS.

I really don't see how bleeping things is funny unless the humor was intended to be funny only on the level of "har har he says f**k a lot". It's just confusing when ZP has been unedited all these years, and so has EttM for its run, why start now?

Great review, loving the analysis of the shots. Nice to see someone has an eye for these things. I may just go watch it now!

One of your better videos, I have to say. The censorship bugged me a lot, though. I hope it's not here to stay.

Oh Bob, you are fucking awesome.

PS: Can you just remove the censorship? It's kind of annoying, and... You really don't need it. Otherwise it's flawless.

I simply loved that Micheal Bay interpretation of 2012. It was right on the money.
I dunno, I think it needed more explosions, and the camera work wasn't bad enough. But give Bob a break, sucking as bad as Michael Bay is a special talent.

yeah, people are going to take and ARE taking this movie way to FUCKING seriously. Just like the barrage of END OF DAYS movies come before that and even The Da Vinci Code. Shat it is, is creative writing done with RESEARCH involved, and a creative spin added on top of it. Basically the authors have done enough research to make it seem like their ideas are valid, if only enough for you to buy what the are saying enough to enjoy the story.

The 2012 movie and the "FACTS" on the "History" type channels talking about the Mayan Calendar is not unlike the documentary they did into the vampire and werewolf circles when UNDERWORLD came out. Which, to me, means its one of two things. 1) They (the "History" type channels) realize the impending success of the up coming movie and are trying to ride the preverbal gravy train. 2) OR they are hired BY the production co. producing and distributing the movie to help PROMOTE IT! In other words, the production co.'s behind 2012 are hiring the "history" channel type stations to run 2012 theories with the same historical backing as in the movie, if not to help validated it, but defiantly to promote the SHIT OUT OF IT! Even though it's still FULL OF SHIT! The world is NOT coming to an end.

How do I know this. Its simple really, compare the 2012 channel spots next to documentaries done into the shooting of president Lincoln AND Documentaries into the "discovery" into Nessie the lockness monster. And the end of one, it states of an over view of the FACTS they have just shown you, the other is an over view of QUESTIONS biased on the POTENTIAL facts they have just shown you... Try to guess which one is which.
