Escape to the Movies: 2012

Not to insult MovieBob or his credibility, but I absolutely LOVE how quickly everyone drops their secretly held beliefs as soon as someone steps in front of a camera and tells them they are being stupid. I am not trying to refute him, in fact, I side with MovieBob on this and I think the whole thing is just the latest incarnation of public fear. It's our new Y2k and all that jazz. People will freak out, Wal-Marts will get ransacked, the news will be abuzz with riots.. Then Nothing will happen that wasn't already done on purpose.

Either way, it's so funny to see so many people jumping out of their seats, eager to reveal all of this information they know about the Mayan calendar, which leads me to believe they've been studying this themselves and suddenly have someone to rally behind and say, "Yeah! MovieBob is right! The rest of you are all so dumb!" while they slowly inch away from the door leading to their secret 2012 bomb shelters.

Really, hmmmm, I didn't get that impression. But I can see your account at least is new so prehaps you haven't looked at a lot of the forums around here. Pretty much every time 2012 gets mentioned a lot of people say it's BS. Seeing how it's been this way sense before this video was posted I don't think people are suddenly changing there minds.

I mean really, if they actually believed this would someone calling them a moron change there mind.

What I can't understand is why the Escapist doesn't run Bob's other video line "The GameOverthinker" That's good stuff. Introspective and meandering, but it works. Plus, isn't the Escapist gaming first?

They got to Game Overthinker first, possibly because of the "My Vids don't suck" contest, which he was the winner of.

... this disappoints me, and that's not a good thing...
I will say the PSA bit was nice, BUT it feels like bob is enjoying TOO many movies lately, In that he's reviewed almost everything nicely, when its pretty clear that the majority of movies have appealing elements, from this movie's directing, to paranormal's whatever made it apparently good, i found it to be boring, but then that makes me look braver in the right company...
... exception to this is movies with megan fox, which is understandable in that "yeah, she's hot, but who gives a fuck?"

OK SERIOUSLY! this guy is a complete yahtzee wannabe! ben "yahtzee" crosshaw > Bob "moviebob" chipman. he has a red backdrop instead of a yellow backdrop. he talks fast like yahtzee only he speeds his up instead of genuinely talking fast. he insults things constantly just like yahtzee. he has metal music play in his intro LIKE YAHTZEE. he doesn't deserve to be on the escapist. he has no talent. yahtzee insults games but in a funny comedic way, this guy is just boring. honestly if he isn't funny then what is he? he definately isn't reviewing movies because to do that you need to tell the reader/viewer something about the movie not just insult it. this is just a quick message to bob. GO AWAY! YOU HAVE NO TALENT! YOUR NOT FUNNY! YOUR NOT A GAMER SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING ON A GAMING SITE? GO AWAY!

i'm hoping i just don't have flash backs to the day after tomrrow, war of the worlds, or the day the earth stood still. (the latter two being two of the worst films i have ever seen)

You fail, sadscraps. Picture those words in caps lock, if you need help getting the message. As someone who initially held your point of view, I can guarantee that you're full of shit. Maybe in the beginning it seemed like Bob was exactly what you describe, but since then he has developed his style into something much more. His videos and columns are some of the best content here on the Escapist. Yeah, Yahtzee may win when it comes to his specialty of ripping things apart savagely, but Bob manages that too, and then goes the extra mile of actually being helpful by explaining things, recommending alternative or lesser known titles and generally bringing something positive to the discussion. It's not that one is better than the other, it's that they're words apart. Stick around and maybe you'll see the difference.
