For me, The Girl With The Dragon tattoo is guilty until proven innocent. I can't get my head around an American who spend quite a big buck to remake a perfectly good movie from two years ago, just because he's too fucking lazy to read subtitles.
I kind've agree. I'd argue that it's in good hands with Fincher, but I'm still skeptical as hell.
I loved the books and I totally think Daniel 'Franchise Killer' Craig is an awful choice to play Blomkvist. He has the look of a hard as nails action guy, while he does have some acting chops (see Layer Cake) I don't think he'll be able to downplay his bad assery.
I have a feeling that they're gonna add a Daniel Craig, James Bondesque CQC sequence at some point in this movie. Just a feeling.
Also the American response to The Girl Who Played With Fire fills me with suspicion. That didn't get as much marketing as the first one did it? I remember that the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo got marketed up the arse when it was released, but when the second one came out, not a peep. I didn't even know they'd made Played With Fire until I looked it up.
Could it be that Hollywood isn't a fan of the girl on girl stuff when it isn't done for pure titilation? Could it be that the Miriam Wu subplot offends their precious family values? Could it be why they're doing a remake in the first place? If they take out all the bisexual stuff from the first one, then they're free to milk the entire trilogy without referencing it. Stait laced white folk everywhere - rejoice!
This is just speculation on my part, but it wouldn't the first time Hollywood has remade a movie just to take out the stuff that offends them.
Also I'm not a fan of that movie poster they put out. Just sayin'. The one with Rooney Mara's tits hanging out? Okay, yay boobies and all - but it cuts into the whole message of the movie. Need I remind you all that the original Swedish title for the book was 'Men Who Hate Women'? Objectifying the character at this point is just fucking stupid. The movie should be against female objectification.
But this could be my inner fan boy piping up here. I haven't even seen the Swedish movies (only read the books). I'd love for the Hollywood remake to be good. Like I said, Fincher is a safe pair of hands, Daniel Craig can act when he wants to and the new Lisbeth Salander looks pretty faithful to how she's portrayed in the books. If they can stop her from getting her tits out for no reason, if they keep the tone of the books and if they keep the bisexual relationship stuff in there (seriously, it's a huge part of the second book) I can see this being okay.
But it won't be okay.
Also my Captcha was upside down. I tried typing backwards but then my internet exploded. What's the deal?
EDT: Underworld though, it's good to see Kate Beckinsale acting again. She's awesome. Not just a hot girl but smart too. She has a degree in classical literature or something.
Ahhh... Kate Beckinsale... someday she'll divorce her attractive, millionaire husband for me. You'll see!
