I'm wondering if Bob saw "The Guard" I went to it last weekend and it's probably my favorite movie in recent memory. Its witty, engaging, and i can't think of a single film wear i rooted so hard for the protagonist at the end. Go out of your way to see this one folks, its worth it. Fortunately i live in a city big enough to have an arthouse multiplex they play the neatest stuff there all the time, and occasional rubbish like Tree of LIfe (ugh).

Don't forget to keep an eye out for Drive [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780504/] starring Ryan Gosling and Ron Perlman. Looks ridiculously awesome.

Oh my God, Happy Feet was the worst movie I've ever seen. It's like they made it a decade late. The sequal will suck just as much only more cause it's a sequal yet everyone will watch it and it might be nominated for an oscar for animated movie and maybe even win since Pixar was leaning on Cars 2 and more than likely wouldn't win shit.

Wow... none of these actually look at all entertaining to me...
Me neither, I'm not interested in Oscar bait and the 'big guns' are all on subjects I couldn't care less about. :(

Already looking forward to summer 2012!

Should be noted that Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy also has Benedict Cumberpatch from the absolutely amazing Sherlock BBC miniseries adaptation from last year. Him and Oldman combined pretty much max out the class-o-meter already.

Tarsem Singh is always on really good drugs. The Fall was amazing, and I'll probably go see this new one just for the visuals. Can't say I care much about the subject matter, though.

For me, The Girl With The Dragon tattoo is guilty until proven innocent. I can't get my head around an American who spend quite a big buck to remake a perfectly good movie from two years ago, just because he's too fucking lazy to read subtitles.

Well despite Twilight being a permanent black mark on every actor's record (Who were in the movie) at least Taylor had SOME talent when he was a kid,I'm personally hoping that it's just the fact that the movie is Twilight that turns actors into shit.

Actually Bob, the John Capenter's "The Thing" wasn't the first one. It was the second.

The first was the 1951 version http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thing_from_Another_World

Also, Benjamin Button should not be in the "Good" Column of David Fincher's career.

Getting Beckinsale back in Underworld was a good move. Probably not enough to cause a Fast & Furious style comeback though.

I love David Fincher, but the original [the book] the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was pretentious, so unless he rewrites half the story ala Fight Club it'll disappoint me.

I kind've agree. I'd argue that it's in good hands with Fincher, but I'm still skeptical as hell.

I loved the books and I totally think Daniel 'Franchise Killer' Craig is an awful choice to play Blomkvist. He has the look of a hard as nails action guy, while he does have some acting chops (see Layer Cake) I don't think he'll be able to downplay his bad assery.

I have a feeling that they're gonna add a Daniel Craig, James Bondesque CQC sequence at some point in this movie. Just a feeling.

Also the American response to The Girl Who Played With Fire fills me with suspicion. That didn't get as much marketing as the first one did it? I remember that the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo got marketed up the arse when it was released, but when the second one came out, not a peep. I didn't even know they'd made Played With Fire until I looked it up.

Could it be that Hollywood isn't a fan of the girl on girl stuff when it isn't done for pure titilation? Could it be that the Miriam Wu subplot offends their precious family values? Could it be why they're doing a remake in the first place? If they take out all the bisexual stuff from the first one, then they're free to milk the entire trilogy without referencing it. Stait laced white folk everywhere - rejoice!

This is just speculation on my part, but it wouldn't the first time Hollywood has remade a movie just to take out the stuff that offends them.

Also I'm not a fan of that movie poster they put out. Just sayin'. The one with Rooney Mara's tits hanging out? Okay, yay boobies and all - but it cuts into the whole message of the movie. Need I remind you all that the original Swedish title for the book was 'Men Who Hate Women'? Objectifying the character at this point is just fucking stupid. The movie should be against female objectification.

But this could be my inner fan boy piping up here. I haven't even seen the Swedish movies (only read the books). I'd love for the Hollywood remake to be good. Like I said, Fincher is a safe pair of hands, Daniel Craig can act when he wants to and the new Lisbeth Salander looks pretty faithful to how she's portrayed in the books. If they can stop her from getting her tits out for no reason, if they keep the tone of the books and if they keep the bisexual relationship stuff in there (seriously, it's a huge part of the second book) I can see this being okay.

But it won't be okay.

Also my Captcha was upside down. I tried typing backwards but then my internet exploded. What's the deal?

EDT: Underworld though, it's good to see Kate Beckinsale acting again. She's awesome. Not just a hot girl but smart too. She has a degree in classical literature or something.

Ahhh... Kate Beckinsale... someday she'll divorce her attractive, millionaire husband for me. You'll see!

Iron Lady? About Margret Thatcher?

Hmmm... If it's a positive portrayal, a good portion of the country would rather burn down their cinema than have it on there.

I however will wait and see.
I think it's worth remembering that Margaret Thatcher was a product of the times. I can understand how she ended up pissing a lot of people off but I don't think she deserves quite the level of hatred she gets. Before she came in the unions were genuinely being wholly unreasonable.
She didn't piss a few people off, she pretty much pissed off an entire country (1 scottish onservative MP in the last election, and that was a surprise.) I do agree that while I may nt like her policies, she was a good PM who stck to her principles. I'm predicting it now. The Iron Lady will get 4-5 star reviews from every publication except in Scotland.

I watched the TV series of 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' a while ago. Brilliant stuff starring Sir Alec Guiness. I hoping the film does the novel and TV series the justice they deserve.
I decided to see thisbefore the title was shown on the tailer just from the strength of the cast. Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Toby Jones and Benedict Cumberbatch mean this should be fantastc to watch. Its out in the UK in a few weeks, but to make up for it we don't get The Muppets till April *bursts into tears*

Much love Bob, much love. :)

Also, I'm a fan of the Underworld movies... probably has everything to do with Kate Beckensale and skin tight cat suits. :)
I was highly tempted to point out that upside of another one. Glad I'm not the only one thinking it.

Is it wrong that I'm disappointed that there wont be any super powers in theatres for the rest of the year? I mean, being reminded that the Avengers comes out in a year puts a big smile on my face but I want to see more super powers out there...

Wait, so Fincher directed Case Closed, FUCK ME, NOW I HAVE TO SEE THAT MOVIE! Or did he just photo shop that picture in for no apparent reason other then it shares the name? And you couldn't give us that Conan review?
Also, I must watch that movie for one reason, because he made fight club.
