Woo! That's the first time I've *ever* heard *anyone* mention Series 7! It's a classic movie that absolutely no one in North America has seen. I tripped over it for 44 cents CAD at a superstore and I regularly credit it as my best movie purchase ever. I wholly recommend this film!

Well, I'm disappointed that this turned out to be a bad film, but I am relieved to hear that MovieBob actually likes the Crank movies; that made my day :)
Ha. Crank is brilliant.

I really can't say I expected much from this film anyway, but that could be down to my hate for Gerard Butler.

Of course movie bob thought godfather sucked.
He never. He said the novel the movie's based on sucked. Which is correct.

good review but jebus he needs to hold off on the halo hatedom, I mean starship troopers has a crap story no two ways about it, but halo has close to the most expansive and interesting universe in the entire gaming genre, if not all genres, between the books, games, graphic novel and upcoming anime, the halo universe almost outclasses Star Wars in terms of its universe.

As for the review, I think Gerard Butler's best role was Rock'n'rolla by a long shot, Im probably gonna check this movie out, just because with the exception of P.S I love you, Gerard Butler has always done a decent movie, plus being gamers I guess we are the target audience (considering the title)

And as a follow up, Moviebob, please quit with the shit about halo until you can claim to actually know anything about its universe beyond "space marines with guns"

I didn't hold out that much hope for this film really...sounds like it'll be one to rent perhaps but not really worth the price of a cinema ticket.

On the other hand, I just went to see District 9 yesterday. Yep.

District 9 was an excellent film because they were able to take a very overdone idea - aliens comeing to earth - and then use that very general guideline to create a film that not only holds its own as an action flick, but also manages to challenge many of the accepted conventions of science fiction. With a Halo movie, there's already so much canon out there that any writer will be hampered by all the things that are 'must includes,' whether it be subconciously or no. Not to mention Halo is a name that made its fame because it was an alien shooter-up. I mean seriously, how many of us actually liked the game solely because of the plot? It was vaguely interesting because it was military sci fi, but the real reason we liked it was because it was a pretty decent FPS. Any producer, director, and studio who would make the Halo film would understand that and I am quite certain they will emphasize action over story. It may be good in that respect, but i doubt it will have lasting impact as a deeper and provoking movie.
The reason I mentioned District 9 is as a current proof of Jackson and Blomkamp's skills as producer and director. If anyone has the talent to do it right, they do.

The only way a Halo movie would be hampered is if they tried to make the film an exact remake of the games. Otherwise there is plenty of room in the Halo universe for new stories (see the new Halo 3: ODST). No it may not be high art loved decades from now, but it doesn't have to be. It can just be a really great videogame movie.

Granted the games basic story wasn't exactly original or the next shakespeare, but it was clear in explaining what you were doing and why and wasn't needlessly overwritten (cough MGS4 cough). The characters were believable and I was genuinely sad when Sgt Johnson died.

Anyway I know I may sound like another Halo fanboy and there are many like you and movie bob who are cynical but I honsetly believe it's the first game to have a real chance at being a really good movie.

Okay this was one of those reviews where based on your opinion of the movie I would loose faith in you but luckily you hated gamer as much as I had hoped. As for second life it has one value to society and that's because some of the stories from it are great with the human sacrificed in the big brother house the dildo storms and the fact someone created a virtual nuke and destroyed an island. You just have to look past the sea of fur piles -.-

oh and the halo movie will be a shitty knockoff of starship troopers must mean it will be a perfect clone of starship troopers 2.

I'm pretty bummed that it's not recommended, but I trust MovieBob's opinion. The trailers looked pretty cool, but I guess that's about as deep as the movie goes.

Meh I'll rent it once it comes out on DVD

I have already seen this movie and I can one say Butler is a good actor and I think he did the best he did with the role that he was given and I think he has done famously in other roles that he has played. But I can agree where the storyline does seem very weak and wholey through a lot of it, but I think your missing a little bit of the point Bob.

If there is one thing I have noticed about your reviews is it seems your waiting for every new movie that comes out to be a blockbuster hit and or make some sort of a big statement regarding something. Gamer is a generic action flick and it KNOWS it's that. At no point does it try and make a big statement or try and be anything it isn't. It runs down the action film checklist to the last letter and it delivers that very well. Is it inventive and new? No. Does it get creative and set some new ground breaking fun never to be seen before? No. What it does is plays it safe.

By any stretch of the imagination is it an epic movie of great proportions, no it really isn't. But I think saying it sucks is a little harsh. If your looking to find something profound from the movie then I guess it would suck. But if your a person looking to pass some free time with some mindless entertainment then this movie does do the job very well and I think that is really all it was meant to do. This is really just to give Butler a break from the Romantic Comedy and get him ready for "Law Abiding Citizen"

I thought it was enjoyable, by no means an intelligent movie but still good. I love how Hollywood still think hackers can basically type their way out of any plot hole.
Also, Michael C. Hall is soooooooo good in this movie. If your a fan of him go see it for that reason. He plays a fantastic villain. Also there is does a great Bruce Lee reference. We need more movies with him. In fact how did he not get the part for Clash of the Titans? He looks just like the original guy, and we see in this movie that he is ripped, oh well.

Also my prediction for the Hollywood version of Zelda.

Actually, I think I might go see it now. Despite the review, I think it looks pretty good.

Ironicly enough, I was getting tickets earlier and had a choice between GIJoe and Gamer, and picked GIJoe. Guess I'll have to see Gamer on monday...

Did you just pick Micheal Cera, Robert Patterson, and Will Smith at random or is there some serious disscussion going on about these guys?

But really, Jason Statham as Link.
Best movie ever.

Wow, you're not funny at all. Not even a little bit. Alright maybe one imperceptible grin lasting less than half a second but other than that one thing (which I can't recall) that caused that absolutely no comedic value.

You're also fairly bad at reviewing, the majority of that video was protracted tangents of little to no consequence.

MovieBob, I like you as Game OverThinker, but those aren't funny either. You're a reviewer, and a good one, but you're no entertainer.

I'll be checking this out myself, as the concept intrigues me, I like Big Dumb Action (I enjoyed G.I. Joe and Transformers 2), it's got a good few quality actors I like in it, and as an occasional visitor and programmer within Second Life, I gotta see the dig they make at it. It's probably calling out the "lifestylers", so it should be pretty funny.

Plus, you hinted at multiple good things. How can you mention a scene that we'll "know when we see it", and then tell us to "skip it"?

Kudos for referencing eXistenZe, you may be the one other person on the planet that hasn't posted for some newspaper as a reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes and has seen it.

That said, I have to go back and disagree with your Watchmen review, the film was very good as far as cinematography and acting, but lacked the humor and charm that made the comic some what funny in it's dark, moody, semi-Machiavellian way, the only light to the film's darkness was it's awesome soundtrack, including the love scene song ( I openly laughed when I linked the songs words to what was going on, lol, ok, more like chuckle under breath, but cub doesn't work as an acronym so well, and that's in context to this posting, I did laugh a fair bit at the theater), but they really could have done so much more with it than add gore. I mean, where was Rorschach's background? as a fashion designer and such. I had a hard time feeling like he was justified in his hatred, in the comic I saw him more like I see Dirty Harry, harsh, but with reasons, and some sense of dark humor or irony.
