Escape to the Movies: Green Lantern

Now I'll have to try and sleep at night knowing that people who've had no previous knowledge about the Green Lantern think he sucks.

I kinda got the impression that Bob got back from the theater and wrote this immediately. Is there any chance that you're being too emotional about it? I mean I get the idea, it was bad, and I probably shouldn't waste my time even though I never followed Green Lantern through the comic books, but was it really THAT bad?

"I could spend 5 EPISODES talking about everything that is wrong with this movie!" Please don't, I get the idea.

and yet, he thought The Last Airbender was passable. So now he certainly didn't deter me from seeing Green Lantern, cuz now I'm curious to see how it compares.

Though the only Lantern I know is Jon Stewart off the Justice League cartoon, whereas he devoted 2 parts on his other show to the GL story and continuity. So... I guess now he know how it feels?

I'm disappointed, but not terribly surprised. I surmised it would be bad as soon as i saw all the stills full of crappy CGI. Also, i felt Ryan Reynolds was sorta miscast.

That... I wasn't expecting. Bob seemed pretty excited about the film, so I guess that explains the outrage. I wasn't planning on seeing this one anyway, but I'm kind of surprised that it's THAT bad. I thought it was just going to be boring formula with CGI stacked on top.

I knew this film was going to be a bomb. Because of all the super hero films out this year, I knew one of them had to be a pile of poop. So by the process of elimination I chose this one. Thor was alright and Xmen was brilliant and it looks like I was right.

My first thought when I saw the subtitle: "He's gonna be all 'surprising us' by not doing the into and instead just starting with a rant. Perhaps even referencing the fact that he's not doing a title sequence like it's such a big deal."

Not surprising, WB knew they had a stinker on their hands when they redid all the trailers and some of the effects. I'm curious to see if they still turn a profit with the movie or not, I know it was expensive as hell but big summer blockbusters still tend to make bank whether they're good or not. Transformers 2 as I recall still made plenty of money despite being panned even by the director himself later.

Not being a fan or even read any of the Green Lantern lore or Cannon, I don't need to know about how the destroy it.... I could care less if they did if they made a good movie out of it. IF its good its good.... No this movie most likely sucks for someone who has no clue about the Lantern's story is Ryan Reynolds!

He isn't a action hero! End of story.

AH HAHAHAHA! I saw this coming. I had no interest in seeing it before and maintain that stance now. I dunno, there's something about the highly special effects nature of the Green Lantern that told me that WB would fuck this up. Even amongst superpower spectacles, expecting a good movie from a pitch as "on paper" silly as "space cops that use imagination powered light rings" was a bit of a stretch.

Which is a shame, because GL is a really, really good comic property.
