I loved Rango too. The visuals were awesome and the story flows real well that it avoids of getting boring at any point.
The problem it had were with the jokes - some work, some don't, and that's okay. What I didn't like though, was that most of the jokes you see coming 5 seconds before they happen. So, give Rango a golf club and ask him to putt the ball... gee, I wander if it's going to fly off his hands and hit someone over the head... oh, it just happened. Then you have one where Rango confronts three robbers trying to dig their way to the bank... gee, I wander if he unknowingly makes himself into the accomplice... there you go, he just did. Most of those scenes could have been handled with more subtlety, and therefore would have been also funnier. But all in all these are just minor blemishes.
The Spirit of the West was just effing awesome. And the rattlesnake with a machinegun instead of the rattle, shooting bats that catch fire and crash - in some other movie this would have been some bloated action sequence with no end in sight, but here it ends almost too soon and leaves you wanting for more.
And Pixar never has balls this big to have someone like Woody from Toy Story to commit suicide in front of all those drooling children.
