I watched Rango today and found it to be very enjoyable. The animation was very outstanding and the plot wasn't bad. The characters were fun and colourful so it didn't hurt me to watch it. My favorite character was Jake the Snake.

I had a good time while watching this movie and hey, isn't that what it's all about?

It seems like everyone in the first few pages of comments were saying that they were not going to see Rango because of this review, but the last few pages actually saw the movie and enjoyed it.

That 'meh' description of Ringo, with great visuals but not much else, pretty much sums up what I thought about Avatar. But Bob liked that one better I think... Huh, oh well

I absolutely loved everything about this movie.
There was plenty of depth...especially the historical commentary about how exactly the "wild west" died. Did Bob miss that too?
I usually don't disagree with MovieBob but I'm going to have to this time.

Drive Angry looks like Mad Max made by someone who wishes they where Robert Rodriguez. So after a few beers I think I'll enjoy it.

I had to watch a German dubbed version of Rango 5.30 PM in the afternoon with a two-thirds empty theatre and way too many families with small kids.

...and I totally forgot everything while watching the movie.

I once said that the day I'd enjoy a dubbed masterpiece I'd twist a knee-cap off. Seems I'll have to get to it.

Why did I enjoy it?

1. It didn't shy away from dealing with concepts like death and suicide, redemption and honour.
2. It made me want to watch all the good old Western movies again to get all the references.
3. It was in some instances so absurdly ugly and at the same time beautiful it reminded me of Pan's Labyrinth and the Michael Ende books I read as a kid.

This is not the best film I ever saw. But one of the most visually striking, far more than the stereoscopic crap that is has been released.

And to those who want to see it on the small screen? It'll work. You won't get every detail and it won't suck you in, but it'll still be a wonderfully crafted film.

I love Rango! It's actually really funny even though you can guess half the jokes before it's being told. Humor is in its execution, and Rango was really light hearted and funny and a little bizaare, which I really enjoyed. Too bad moviebob didn't like it all that much.

I loved Rango too. The visuals were awesome and the story flows real well that it avoids of getting boring at any point.

The problem it had were with the jokes - some work, some don't, and that's okay. What I didn't like though, was that most of the jokes you see coming 5 seconds before they happen. So, give Rango a golf club and ask him to putt the ball... gee, I wander if it's going to fly off his hands and hit someone over the head... oh, it just happened. Then you have one where Rango confronts three robbers trying to dig their way to the bank... gee, I wander if he unknowingly makes himself into the accomplice... there you go, he just did. Most of those scenes could have been handled with more subtlety, and therefore would have been also funnier. But all in all these are just minor blemishes.

The Spirit of the West was just effing awesome. And the rattlesnake with a machinegun instead of the rattle, shooting bats that catch fire and crash - in some other movie this would have been some bloated action sequence with no end in sight, but here it ends almost too soon and leaves you wanting for more.

And Pixar never has balls this big to have someone like Woody from Toy Story to commit suicide in front of all those drooling children.

"... with a [insert glowing compliment here] score by James Horner..."

well, yeah, it's James Freaking Horner, right in line behind John Mother-F'ing Williams.

If they offered me a spot on The Escapist doing reviews of film soundtracks, the majority of them would be less than 30 seconds long, because I would do the intro, say five words ("James Horner (or John Williams) scored this movie"), and do the outro, and that would be considered an automatic endorsement to go buy the soundtrack CD.

Huh, that's actually the first time I've heard anyone say anything good about Drive Angry, everyone else just seems to say it's shit. Still doubt I'll bother to go see it as it just looks stupid, and a gunfight sex scene has already been done in Shoot 'em Up so now to me not only does it look stupid but it's apparently a rip off as well. To be fair I loved Shoot 'em Up because it was intentionally ridiculously stupid and possibly could love Drive Angry for the same reason, but I still think I'll wait till it's out of the cinema.

Regarding Rango I really liked it as I can see several others here did as well. The surreal elements during the first half were definitely the highlight of the movie but like Dr Killpatient said it never gets boring and outside of Pixar I don't think I've seen action sequences done nearly as well before. I think it could definitely have benefited from not trying to appeal to kids and throw in some more adult humour (it's not like there wasn't room for it) then it could have been an amazing film but I suppose animation still has the stigma of children's entertainment in the cinema even though that's not really true on TV any more what with the rise of Family Guy and South Park or the adult swim cartoons.

I think it's time we demanded more grown up targeted animation movies, that way we've got Disney for the kids, Pixar for everyone (bridging the gap brilliantly) and then something else just for the adults.

I have to say, this has got to be one of the worst reviews I've ever heard. Apparently, you have no idea what you are talking about sir. Rango has got to be my favorite movie of the year. It was funny, interesting, and the characters were completely fleshed out and deep. I don't know where you came off, but if you guys want a good review of this, go check out Roger Ebert's review or check out Rotten tomatoes. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

I actually liked Rango pretty well. Plot has been done many times before, but they've been able to crank out something new by injecting a new type of main character into it.
