Happy Birthday MovieBob! Psychological horror isn't a genre that I normally watch, but I'll go and see this when it makes its way to us in the UK.

I'm a huge fan of Scorsese but what scares me is isn't Leo just a face (aka pretty boy with no talent)? I can't recall ever seeing him in anything, just know he stands out as, well good looking and little else.

Regardless, it's Scorsese so it's a definite watch. Not to mention Ted Levine and Ben Kingsley.

Okay, Moviebob, seriously... let the whole Avatar thing go! The whole "baby crying over it" image just makes me think YOU are the baby, since you JUST... WON'T... DROP IT! Everyone else has stopped caring about it, so why do you keep carrying on? It's a mark of fanboyism and fanboys do not improve the situation in the slightest!

I just realized I have something that sounds remarkably like a Brooklyn accent (maybe english) and I have never been within 500 miles of NY.

OT- Good review, movie sounds pretty good.

Y'know what's funny? For the first 26 years of my life I "talked like JFK." But the the past four, I now "talk like The Scout" ;)

As to the accent: It's mine, you don't hear it on ETTM much because it comes with a lot of innapropriate word-mixing ("put a hat on" becomes "puddah haddon") that makes editing recorded dialogue a MASSIVE pain in the ass. (I don't know how anyone cut the sound on The Departed without wanting to hang themselves afterward.)

It's a New England accent, actually. Bostonian, to be precise

Yeah, MovieBob representin' New England. Nice review. I've been dying to see Shutter Island. I actually met Martin Scorsese when he came up to NESCom to talk to the Audio and Video kids. He's a pretty cool guy.

Happy Birthday Bob, by the way
what you don't realize is that that was a yu-gi-oh abridged reference, and by the way, REALY? REALY??!! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITING ME!! COME ON!!! on a compleatly unrelated note, if you liked the sound you can thank my dad. he was one of the sound editores. he has worked on a lot of good scorsese movies.

I really think that, in spite of the fantastic CGI and the above-average performance of Zoe Saldana, Avatar just badly written. I don't care if it was original or not, but the story was one part that was not presented well.

As for Martin Scorcese, I like him, so I'll try to see this sometime. I like mental asylum horror stuff and I can't wait to see what he does with it. It's strange, having Scorcese, a director I immediately identify with the Seventies, releasing a movie in 2010. Really shows how much things change in such a short time in Hollywood.

Really, really noticed the Boston accent which offended my poor Canadian ears.

I kid. Gold as always Bob.

I detested Cape Fear, so I'm not sure if this movie would be for me.

I don't understand the love most people have for Scorsese, but then i haven't seen most of his movies. I saw the aforementioned piss bowl Cape Fear, Gangs of New York, and The Departed. So, no. I didn't see Taxi Driver. I didn't see Raging bull. I didn't see Goodfellas.

Wait. hold on. I think I might have seen Goodfellas after all. I just forgot I did because I found it to be a forgettable movie. I might not have seen the whole thing as i don't recall how it ends. I also don't recall how the Whoopi Goldberg vehicle Fatal Beauty ends, either. I'm in no hurry to find out.

But those other two flicks I did see were alright, but nothing I'd make any special note.

The problem with that hollywod brat pack, as Bob puts it, is that they weren't storytellers per se as photographers. That is, they were good technical directors which often helped to elevate their ho-hum narratives to perceived greatness.

Scorsese is just one of that group who's choice of material did not connect with me, I guess. DePalma fairs worse min my opinion. But that's all it amounts to.

Oh well. As long as Shutter Island is better than I Know Who Killed Me, I guess.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who hasn't noticed how Italian he's gotten when he talks. It's become really apparent in this episode.
