Hehe... first mention of "Day of the Triffids" that I've seen since Cracked blasted it. I have to see this movie.

Has anyone here seen "Frogs", the 1970's movie where various critters rise up to destroy humanity because of pollution or something? It's right terrible but still worth a look. I'm told it's free to watch in the US.

Ok... you got my interest. What's the synopsis of the Six String Samurai? I never saw it.

You know never thought The Birds as apocalyptic, although all the points you make are very valid and make sense, think I'll watch it again in that mindset and see what happens

Alternate History post-nuke action comedy - think "Fallout" as a spoof, basically: At some point in the 50s, the Soviets nuke the U.S. into a wasteland. What's left of American civilization survived in Las Vegas, where Elvis Presley was made (literal) King. However many years later, The King dies of natural causes and rock musicians from across the wasteland make their way to Vegas to try and claim the crown. Main story follows one rocker in particular, who's guitar conceals a samurai sword and who becomes protector to a little kid "Lone Wolf & Cub"-style.

If that's the case, then my favourite 'Apocalyptic' story would be Neon Genesis Evangelion, along with the book that inspired it: Childhood's End.

I saw Six String Samurai a few years back, I wasn't crazy about it. Yeah, it's not about...
Buddy's journey, it's about the kid's, he was still annoying.

It was worth it to discover the Red Elvises though.

Surprised there isn't more Zombipocalypse love showing. My friends ask why I like apocalypict movies, and zomb ones in particular, and I usually answer similar to Bob's "who you really are" comment. Think back to all your favorite end of the world movies: Some guy always rises to the occasion, and usally some guy becomes something bad.

And notice what ends the world. Back when the term was coined, it was always the final battle between demons and angels. Much later, it was an atomic generated end. Then, diseases took the stage (The Stand, anyone?). Now, it seems to be Mother Nature that does us in most in the movies.

One movie I remember from my childhood was "Where Have All the People Gone" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072400/.
In it, solar flares (?) cause everyone not properly shielded to dissolve into sand. A family avoides this fate, and trys to get home. Oh, and dogs go crazy and attack people. Even as a kid, i wondered about the future, since it looked like only one family in all of California survived!

Are there any Americans who are aware of the fact that there was a Mad Max movie made BEFORE Road warrier? Any?

Okay, so never EVER show "the birds" to a kid under 7. I was shown this by my older brothers when I was about 5. Over 15 years later I have an unnatural fear of birds of all kinds. Also one of transexual transylvanians but that is another movie for another time. Never show kids these movies...

Beginning of the End and Robot Monster. Seen both of those on Mystery Science Theater 3000. Beginning of the End was really funny, I mean I couldn't breath for parts, it was so funny.

I am with MovieBob on this. "The Birds" is one of the most underrated Alfred Hitchcock movies ever made, and it's brilliant in its pacing and build up. Great choice there.

I have often found myself wondering if someone would remake that film just so that they could use CGI or even green screen to put more that two types of birds in it. Really the only fault I could find in that film.
Michael Bay has the rights to remake it.
...
Expect an entire hour of John Turturro explaining how the birds became mad because of an asteroid crash and the US Army siding with eagles armed with rocket launchers. Explosive birds will not be featured to avoid PETA from interciding.
