Only way that can happen is if you go to war and see the horrors yourself, because you know movies are fake. Or become a police officer, the bigger the city, the bigger the crime, the faster you get desensitized.

O_O Wow Bob, you act like this Movie had sex with your mother, video taped it, then showed it to you while spitting in your face. Good thing I haven't seen it.

Well. I have lost almost every respect I had for you Bob. The action in this movie was absolutely great. I have numerous times agreed with you (never really on any action, as you rarely discuss it), but this was so f**king opposite of what I thought that it's absolutely f**king ridiculous. There were plenty of memorable kills in the movie.

How about how Stallone used a pistol as a f**king machine gun? (he seriously shot fast and reloaded fast. Absolutely a cool feature).

Most of the action was well executed as well. I would really like to sit down with you and watch it and point out some awesome scenes.

F**k this. I feel so disappointed. Sh*t...

I will not stop watching your reviews as they are always worth watching, but God f**king damn I have never disagreed so much with you before, and I get the sense that you have absolutely no feel whatsoever for action.
^ I agree with this completely, I've watched and agreed with almost all of the previous reviews, but this was just terrible. That wasn't a review, that was just a nerd unleashing some built up anger over a film which is popular and masculine, just for that reason... Moviebob, you're not an angry teenager anymore, don't act like one.

Bitter much?

While I agree it wasn't very good at all, your comment that there were no memorable kills was false.

The first death is a man getting his torso disconnected from his body. During the last big hurrah li tag-team scissor-kicks a guy's head to snap his neck. WTF is wrong with that?

I went to both Scott Pilgrim and The Expendables. I'm just as sad that Scott Pilgrim lost out and won't go down as 'one of the big box-office boomers'. Whoopy though. When has that ever stopped a cult classic from becoming more popular than douchy tool-bag movies?

Jesus Bob calm down I mean the movie wasn't the greatest sure, but I don't so much regret blowing 7 bucks to see it.

Awwww.... I was hoping for amazing campy 80's action, gore and manliness.

I will have to rewatch Predator to get my fix.

Damn, I was thinking it was going to be the brainless action films equivalent of it's a mad, mad, mad, mad world (typing that is a mad, mad, mad, mad mouthfull) i.e a film with famous key actors and even better, nicely done cameos which did great justice to its respective genres. And now I can't even revel in the cheese factor and violence for there is none...damn.

Seriously, movies like commando and Invasion USA are just a whole lot of fun to watch but that's mostly due to their respective times, action movies evolved i.e became darker and more stylised and for the most part they're great, even action film franchises which made their debut in the '80s learned to change with the times and became better for it (Die hard 4, Rambo).

Oh well, even when I see it next week (mate of mine's birthday) I can keep in mind that I already saw Scott Pilgrim, and it was BRILLIANT!

Definitely wasn't great. It was closer to Rocky remake than Rambo remake, which is probably why it, y'know, felt like a PG-13 movie that was forced to be R.

In other words, this is a Stallone 'message' movie that has some action, not a Stallone action movie that has a message. Given that Stallone has already rather LOUDLY telegraphed the fact that he's back in moviemaking for the message rather than the action, why not just criticize the message?

Like highbrow nerds are supposed to do?

Especially since the message of both The Expendables and Scott Pigrim vs. the World are EXACTLY THE SAME (i.e.: the greatest thing a man can do in life is to kill hordes of other men and sacrifice himself unthinkingly for a woman!)

(Better question: Would you commit this level of manly self-sacrifice for the preening adultering *****-woman Julia Roberts plays in Eat, Pray, Love?)
That is a point I would have liked to have seen discussed, and I applaud you for bringing it up sir.

Wow, I've never seen Movie Bob so angry. I probably enjoyed the review than I ever would the movie. Though I think most of his rage is centered around how a movie is instantly successful in the box office if you put enough big name actors into it. Which is a worthy thing to be angry about since this success will unleash more films trying to do the same thing until people learn (haha, people learning).

Well, I couldn't really agree more - although I do think there were some worthwhile action scenes, overall, this movie was flat-out awful. Absolutely nothing re-deeming about this film whatsoever - the dialogue was cringe-worthy at best, the story was mind-numbingly boring, and it really just seemed to me that they squandered a lot of the awesome potential that this movie had. Seriously, a movie with Jason Statham and Jet Li was THIS bad? Goddamn you, Stallone.

I'm guessing that was just topical commentary as opposed to taking my comment seriously :p

Nice review bob, I'm in an angry mood, I needed to hear someone tear something apart.

I wasn't going to see this to start but my trust in these reviews adds to the reason.

that or the movie was just generally bad, which in accodence to the ammount of posts that seem to be sharing a similar opinion with bob on this matter i would take that as a reliable and valid assumption.

OT: I was in no way expecting this movie to be good, it looked meatheadish and boring so yeah thanks bob for confirming my beliefs... time to go watch splice
