Oh Bob. Your hatred of this film is laughable after the praise you gave to Sucker Punch. You seem to only dislike films that pander when they're not pandering directly to you. Then it's fine. Also, stop saying dudebro. It's obnoxious, more so than those you're trying to mock.

PS It's transphobia, not homophobia, and the scene was noT offensive. If you can't understand why finding out you've just slept with a man would be a traumatic/funny experience then you've never been to Bangkok. Here's a hint: the ladyboys are in on the joke.

I didn't expect a sequel to ever be made in the first place (or is it second place?)
I was really skeptical about this but the bad taste... didn't expect that.

Silly bob! It is funny because under the influence of various substances, the main character received anal sex from a transsexual prostitute because his judgement was negatively affected due to the aforementioned substance abuse! To add to the humor, the fact that he is marrying a woman indicates that he is in fact a heterosexual and therefore would never consent to such an act if he hadn't joined his friends in the consumption of various drugs and alcohol!

Nobody needed this sequel? $61 million dollars for the first 2 opening days says you are wrong. Dude. I can agree if you say it is bad, or you think the jokes are not funny etc. But seriously, you really need to get off your freaking high horse. It is getting too tedious for me now. Everytime u dun like something, you seem to think that the rest of the world should do so too.

And this movie that nobody "needs" has earned more than your precious scott pilgrim. It seems to me that the world has voted that they dun need scott pilgrim more.

Ok to start off with, was anyone really expecting anything more or less from this movie? Naturally it was going to be about some guys who got drunk and drugged, woke up the next day and tried to pick the pieces back together of a friend lost along the way. Yes it probably could have done a better job not copying the original one almost plot point for plot point but still, it was an 'ok' film. Not anything amazing, (loved the first one when I saw it originally) And it certainly isn't going to change the world, but to be honest tell me what you expected from it? It's obviously a cash grab but people pay to see funny, even if its the same funny they've seen before, case in point- family guy. How much you wanna bet that the people who buy full seasons of family guy haven't probably already seen the majority of those episodes before? When a comedy is done right, I think the 'replay value' is a good thing. (well for consumers, not so much Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Frog)

The big thing that I had with your review was the mentioning of the transvestite like it was handled in an immature way or something. Newsflash- anyone starts waving a penis around *anywhere* and people are going to react, especially when originally its not supposed to be there. Doesn't matter how 'tolerant' you claim to be, how 'loving of all ideas and beliefs' you want to tell other people, chances are when you see a chick drop her pants and there is a penis there, you're probably going to be surprised. It was in the movie for the shock value, which the movie honestly needed because the day after I saw the movie that is the only part I can actually recall... well that and the part with the guy on the motorcycle driving up and hitting them. And I only remember that part because it made me roll my eyes and mutter, "just like in the first one."

The Hangover 2 isn't some amazing film, but it isn't really that bad either. It had some memorable parts, (most of which I'm hoping will come back to me later) but there was no reason to demonize it the way you did. The world is not a worst place because of it's existance. (well Thailand might be worse for the wear but eh) And the whole 'cash grab' insult you seem to be trying to hurl out makes no sense. People are supposed to make money, and if people buy their product, blame not the selfish businessman who made money off of the deal, but rather the people who payed for it. Because if people hadn't paid for it then instead of a rich bussinessman making more money, Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Frog would have taken a loss this quarter. Judging from the packed theatre I watched it in, I'll say that's not going to happen. If you think its stupid then stop paying for it. Then they'll stop making it.

"People are always telling me: 'money doesn't buy happiness', but you see, the funny thing about that is, it can buy just about anything else."

Except that he's disliked or found faults in a number of low budget slightly more unknown movies like Monsters and Repo: The Genetic Opera, and even 9 (30 mil is a pretty low budget for a CGI film) and he's loved big blockbuster hits like A-Team, Inception and even Avatar, which most people call the most over-rated movie of all time now.

So I really don't know why people keep saying the stuff that you just said like it's a proven fact that applies to all of Bob's critiques.
Because people like easy arguments; it makes them feel better and allows them to retreat into a comfort zone.

I actually thought about the fact that 2011 is much more enlightened time when it comes to things involving inter-sexuality a few days before watching this; when I was watching Ace Ventura, a 90s film where the main antagonist is a transsexual. From the sounds of things, they did the surprise dick gag in the worst possible way. Best possible way; Ace Ventura. Sure that's shown from the 90s point of view, so it's not exactly P.C. but the joke isn't that she's a he, the joke is that Ace made out with her/him, and so did all the police officers. LOL.
I think it's also worth noting that in "Ace," the joke has several layers - the main one being to parody the way (straight) guys "flipped out" at "The Crying Game," which was still a big topic when the first "Ace" movie came out; but also at how absurd the whole scheme is i.e. Sean Young is CLEARLY not an ex-NFL male-to-female transsexual. It still has more than a whiff of homo/trans-phobia about it, as the majority of 90s sex humor generally did, but it's an infinitely less cruel version of the gag.

The main difference, though, is that there the JOKE is Ace etc's juvenile reaction; it's played so far over the top that we're meant to laugh at how badly he's taking it (re: at him.) In "Hangover 2," the "joke" is the supposedly most-sympathetic of the heroes discovering he'd been intimate with a transsexual and having a meltdown which the framing and editing choices are visually-empathizing with; in the sense that Helms' character is cowering like he's facing down some kind of horrible creature, which the camera placement and cutting in turn project onto the other relevant player.

The scenario regards "Stu" as having been VICTIMIZED - when in fact we know he was a willing (if innebriated) participant given that his "partner" was a prostitute whose services they'd been paying for - and shows no sympathy (or even HUMANITY) to the woman in question even though the heroes are being huge assholes to her at that moment. That's the problem.

Yea I agree it was bad. I did laugh here and there, but it was bad.

And referring to the part you were talking about...how could you think that was Trans bashing?

It isn't shocking/funny that transexuals exist, it is shocking/funny that...

Ed Helm's character (a straight man) is unwillingly sodomised by a a transexual Taiwanese prostitute while intoxicated the night before his wedding

Sure it is crude, but I don't see how that was Trans or gay bashing or homophobic...it was just ridiculous and kinda messed up for the main character, because that obviously isn't his thing.

EDIT: Also, story time wasn't really funny or clever...just kind of annoying. Stick to the rants Bob not satire.

If movies would really encourage certain actions/influence my actions...

Man, I would have slow motion firefights all the time!
_____________

Serious: Probably will watch it with a few friends.
Brainless fun, just like The Expendables.

Mr. Rabbit reminded me of Kotick, just the looks. The fitting personality was just icing on the cake.

I knew this would be another cash-in movie. The first hint was when I saw that they actually were making another hangover movie . The other thing was that they were using the same characters as the first, this movie could have worked if they had tried to rehash the original idea with new characters and plot elements but instead turned out to be a photocopy of the original with a few changes and the added homophobia.
