I used to enjoy Moviebobs reviews for introducing me to films like Kick Ass and Three Lions, but now I am more appalled how how poor and one sided his reviews have become.
I have not seen the Kings Speech or Tron 2, but from friends, reviews and the general feeling I hear The Kings Speech is a very good film and Tron 2 is rubbish. Yet Bob says that The Kings Speech is just...Oscar bait and Tron 2 is amazing (pretty much)

I don't get it. I want impartial reviews about a film and not Bobs vendetta with the World/Oscars

It seems he is starting to take himself too seriously and has forgotten what we (his fans) really want.

Plus please stop being a perv Bob. I don't want to hear you lust over EVER women in a Movie. Apart from helen Bonham Carter who IS hot ;)

well seeing as a B+ is a grade of 1.75 I'd say yes
what I'm saying is Movie Bob is biased like the reviewers and the Oscars he is trying to slate for being....biased

Calls soccer "football?" Check!
Well, at least they don't call handegg "football".

Also, I read about Bob calling it Oscar bait and formulaic and stuff before I saw the movie yesterday, and I went in with lower expectations than before, but I really, really enjoyed the film.

And if someone seriously thinks the movie is so "boring" as to not be able to watch it through (which it isn't), then they stand at a more shameful fault than the committee who chooses the movies that win.

Honestly, if going for formula constructed scripts that are acting driven is the worst offense I could forgive the academy, but really the racism and sexism is what gets me. Look at "Blood Diamond" and tell me why Djimon Hounsou was nominated for best supporting actor when he is the central protagonist. Watch "true Grit" and tell me why Hailee Steinfeld, the main character is nominated for best supporting actor. This happens a lot.
Doesn't have much to do with racism or sexism, it is the fact that these are not big names in the industry (not yet at least), and the Academy wants to give awards to those who have been great actors for a long time (like Sandra Bullock and Jeff Bridges getting best actress/actor... even though they arguably should not have won).

Also, the film companies push their actors/actresses into award spots they think they can win. This is why Hailee Steinfeld is in the supporting actress... because the people who lobbied for her thought she would have a better chance in the supporting class rather than the best actress class.

I would like to know how Moviebob came up with his criteria for Oscar bait. Assuming he is talking about just the Best Picture Oscar (there are 24 Oscars to be handed out) I would like to mentioned that "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" won a Oscar in 2004 and that was about as fantasy as you can get. As far as time period is concerned the Best Picture is all over the map with Platoon taking place during the Viatnam war.

Yeah OK good review and all Bob, nice way to review the movie... but it actually was good.

Of course I can't say I'm surprised about your opinion, because I've always had you pegged as someone who only likes good movies if they are sci-fi and/or horror.

Expand your horizons Bob, it'll do us all good.

The most obvious Oscar bait of recent times was most certainly "The Hurt Locker", and I have a feeling that Mr Bob still resents the fact that, that terrible film won best Film over District 9. Now please leave us English alone. Good Day.

P.S. and lets be honest the biggest travesty of the Oscars is the oversight of Tron 2 for best musical score (the only reason I can think of to see that poor film).

I was very dissapointed in this review. I thought the King's Speech was fantastically well performed and written, and after having been mentioned twice before, I thought that he actually liked the film. The arguments he put towards the film could have been put forwards to any film, and as far as I could tell, the only reason he singled out the King's Speech was that it was a British Film, whereas all the other big Oscar nominated films are American.

If you call the Hurt Locker oscar bait, you might as well call Black Swan and the Social Network oscar bait as well.

And yeah, Tron should have received a nod for the soundtrack, and Scott Pilgrim deserves one for editing.

Wow Bob, your deep analysis exactly describes the recent winners of
- Hurt Locker
- Slum Dog Millionaire
- No Country for Old Men
- The Departed
- Crash
- Million Dollar Baby
- LotR: Return of the King
- Chicago
- Beautiful Mind
- Gladiator

Oh wait that second last one did have an illness that left the lead still looking handsome. I guess 1 for 10 is a pretty good score for you.
Man, I enjoyed Gladiator, No Country for Old Men and Slumdog. Even though they nail the Oscar formula they do it by entertaining with a kickass story and structure which is not the case of the other ones you me
How in the world does No Country follow Oscar formula?
My bad, forgot to mention No Country doesn't. It actually makes it an underdog making it and prevailing doesn't it?

Damn--now I have to go through every trailer from now on and check off the stereotypes.

Honestly, this film takes no risks and pushes no envelopes. An envelope would move more if it were left on my desk with my window open. I literally could not remember one memorable moment or quoteable line from the moment I left the theatre.

I can't help but wonder if Bob wouldn't rather just dismiss the Oscars as an irrelevant relic of a bygone age with no meaning or significance in the modern cinema industry? Because that's kind of how I feel about them.
