So time for everyone's daily military situation. This one is on a continental scale. Say a large scale war breaks out between the Union and the Union of North America.(Not just USA)

I think this would be close to impossible to determine. Both Unions are pretty equal in population. I would lean towards the North American Union(Well I am an American), the USA has the most elite military in the world and Canada is also a very elite military and good allies with the USA. Mexico I worry about because their ground military is not is strong as most countries, mainly due to dealing with drug trafficking problems within their own nation, they also have almost no tanks. Their Navy however is something not turn a blind eye to.

What do others think?

UPDATE: Disregard nuclear technology.

The Americans would win in short order.

Us Europeans would be too busy arguing with each other to actually send out an army.

Umm America's army is not near the most elite... at all. Also, que smartasses who treat war like a game with pwned, and other such terms.

We (Canada) might have an elite military--from what I've heard anyway--but it's really, really small, isn't it? Assuming nuclear weapons are not called into play, I would predict that both forces smash into each other and collapse, and are then trampled by China before they recover.

It would be close... calling into play Mexico, Canada, and the US's army should be about equal to the EU, I think this one goes to whoever has the best navy.

America would win. Why?
We're better than everyone else at everything we do.
And if we're worse, then it doesn't count.

Notice how I said "military" not "army." USA has the largest and most advanced Air Force and Navy in the world. We also have a large Marine Corps, which rank as some of the best trained soldiers in the world.

It really depends on who attacks first and the details behind the world. If the EU goes crazy and Sweden shoots missiles into Montreal then I imagine the world would unite against them and crush them. Same thing would happen if the US bombed Paris for no good reason.

If it is a war on equal footing I would have to side with the USA/Canada too, if only because if you took our military tech from billions of research dollars spent during the Cold War and combined it with the untapped natural resources and potential industrial capacity of Canada you would have a truly terrifying and effective warmachine.

If all of the EU rose up America would be crushed, not just in terms of military support but looking at it economically and socially America couldn't survive without the support and co-operation of the EU. Especially as its likely that Russia and Chine would bring their aid to the EU (well its kind of iffy with China they might just stay neutral.)

Of course this is supposing the EU could actually co-ordinate themselves for once rather then just turning on each other.

Americans would be too busy waving flags and singing songs about war.

Although we do have the French... And America would have the French Canadians... Tough call.

Still, who would be attacked by the China first - Europe or America? Yeeeah.

Saying that the EU don't just ***** between ourselves and nukes are out.

Then i would say Europe would win. SAS FTW.

EDIT: Sack that... Africa would win by unleashing its army of flying banana bombs dropped by kangaroo's borrowed from Japan, but originated from the former Yugoslavia... Therefore, the ducks in Belgium would win. I like belgium. Its got nice chocolates...

heh

Our strategy is to dominate the chosen battlefield from the air and water, then attack the control and command structure of the enemy.

Commandos are certainly cool, but that doesn't win wars alone. Thats why we all remember the american-led and russian advances against germany, and the french resistance is generally a topic for trendy movies.

But its obnoxious to even suggest that the EU and the future NAU would go toe to toe. The future of conflict is west + east vs Moslem. Chinese, americans, europeans-- they all want the same thing. The highest standard of living on earth for their people. That and money.

These three major continental powers will be mired dealing with middle east and african bullshit for much of this century.

Considering the fact the USA(not including canada or mexico) has a larger Navy than the European Union combined, I think you may want to rethink "crushed."

Too hard to imagine. currently the EU has no serious military cooperations (Thats NATO... guess who's running the show there). The ESDP has a looooong way to go and I don't see it happening quit soon. However... should an agreement be reached I do think it will work rather good, such a major issue is not something to vaguely arrange.

I think its impossible for the USA to take out the EU pretty fast and swiftly and doing so would seriously require them to draft a large force to occupy the EU (I mean look at Iraq, thats just the size of France. You'd need a heck of a lot more, its occupying a continent..)

If this would happen now, the EU is simply toast. If the NAFTA group would 'invade' now taking out France, Germany and Britain (Big Three) would probably crush any serious direct military resistance.
