This question is mostly directed at my fellow europeans since other people probably don't know or don't care about the Eurovision song contest.

So, big question: Does anybody here even watch this? What are your favorites, how do you like your country's song etc. Just discuss anything related to the contest.

I'm half greek and half bulgarian. I'm quite disappointed Bulgaria didn't make it past the semifinal, because I felt like they had a really good song this year unlike the last couple of years. Greece made it to the finals, with a somewhat uninspiring song. It's still better than most of the others I've heard this year, though. My personal favorite this year is Slovenia, with Georgia a close second. What about you?

I'm from the UK and I'm watching it, though I haven't checked out any of the songs so I'll have to wait until tomorrow before I know who I want to win. Maybe UK can actually do well this time... (fat-chance :p)

The last time I watched it I was piss drunk. Either way, it's all just bubblegum pop and frankly I'm tired of pop music. If only another band like Lordi would come into the competition...

Yeah I think I'll be watching, probably with some of my flatmates down at the university bar as we don't have a T.V. I've not really listened to any of the songs so I'll see what happens tomorrow. The only problem I have with the contest is how the voting always seems to be politcal.

Yeah, it is mostly pop music, I agree. But still there are some really good entries every year and some hilariously bad. This year Portugal and Moldova probably deserve some kind of prize for ridiculously awful entries.

It really died when the Soviet Block split up. Now it's just become a political battleground.

Pff, I have a good laugh, usually, when watching Eurovision.

I'll most likely watch it...it's like the one program you always switch back too after switching through everything else xD

No favourites though, not heard any of the Eurovision songs so far.

Last time I watched it was when I was ten and only because I wanted to fit in.
Trudging through that mindnumbing display of insipidness pretty much ejected that desire like a fucking spring-loaded rocket.

So that's a no.

I liked the fellows with the pointy hats, wherever they hailed from. Other than that, it was a predictably lacklustre year. Nothing will ever come close to matching .

I never watch it, but I heard that we (Netherlands) now have a new record for not making it through the semifinals. I think this is the 7th year in a row or something. I'm not surprised as the songs we send out there are usually crap (and we only have two neighboring that might even consider voting for us).

I'll be half watching/half taking the piss with my fellow bug-people. However, I believe I will really be concentrating on enjoying very good from-scratch pizza. I make it a point never to turn down good food, especially when it's free.

I've never held with Eurovision. Really doesn't sit well with me.

I'm very strongly of the opinion that countries should sing in their native lanuage - AS A RULE!

Not always in English.

Anyone else agree?

Plenty of them don't sing in English.

That's true - but plenty do. I just thing that there is something inherently unfair in a music contest when a country can win with a song in someone elses language. Makes me mad.

But, of course, you're totally right - it's a joke over here (esp. where I sit in the UK). Not worth the fuss or bother.

The biggest joke ever, not even considering the fact that it's all rigged. Unless you are from Eastern Europe, you barely have a shot at winning.

I'm from Finland and we probably have the worst track record with Eurovision, ever. For that I don't really care about it anymore. That and the fact that most of the songs there are shite in general.

2004-in my opinion the best year for eurovison-Why?
2 reasons-1.Lordi Won(HARD ROCK HALLEUJAH)2.My country (lithuania) sended in probably the best band we ever sended.....And noone has still surpast them in Lithuania...Its Lt united(WE ARE THE WINNERS OF EUROVISION)

I am without shame a mega-fan of eurovision, watching both semi-finals and will be watching the final on Saturday. I understand why some people believe it to be rigged, and there are still some kinks....but, things are improving, it wont always be a Eastern European country that wins. Case in point, Germany won last year, and according to the bookies, a Western country is likely to win this year (either France or the UK)
