No. I didn't even know what my countrys (Finland) song was before I checked it out after reding this thread.
Finland?

THIS Finland? Sir, you have, without doubt, one of the most Awesome Eurovision Winners of all time.

Second to ABBA. ;)

It really died when the Soviet Block split up. Now it's just become a political battleground.
Hear hear! That, and my country hasn't made it to the finals in 7 or 8 years now. This is just ridiculous.

Oh yeah, I noticed some pretty terrible music when I passed next to my TV last night. Figured that was it, was kinda surprised I didn't hear more hype about it though.

I'll put it on in the background, mainly for the BBC commentary, I love the fact that they now have their own Twitter, so Eurovision here has effectively become a mass of Brits laughing and joking at the other countries' entries.

No.

After Russia won that one time with a horrible pop song of horrible, I refuse to watch it. It was bad before, but holy shit.

Wait, wait, wait.

ABBA won? There was a time when the Eurovision DIDN'T SUCK?

Okay, if you don't mind me asking:

What is the point of Eurovision? I'm from the U.S..

All it really seems to be is some pointless contest between the European countries and some others (like Azerbaijan & Morocco. How do they count?).

I do apologize if I've insulted anyone with my opinion and/or ignorance, I'm just setting out what I view it as currently and hopefully someone will explain and/or correct me.

I would like to apologise on behalf of Ireland for inflicting Jedward upon Europe.

They will win, by the way. And you'll all suffer like we do.

I watched a bit of the semi finals last night, and while some of it was catchy, it was ultimately not very good...still better than anything else that was on at 3am though

One of my first memories...make of that what you will.

Swap it around like so...

"What is the point of the *Insert NFL/NHL/NBA etc. here*? I'm from Europe..

All it really seems to be is some pointless contest between the American teams and some others (like Canada. How do they count?)."

Most contests are ultimately pointless. That doesn't stop it being occasionally entertaining though.

I am British so I will watch and complain how no one votes because they don't like us and not because of our act! :p

My favourite Eurovision entry has to be Lordi though:p

I thought us having Blue was bad, then I seen Ireland's entry:p

Depends who you ask.

Some people see it as a chance for European countries to pit their best singers against eac other.

Some people see it as camp as a row of frilly tents and being FABulous.

Don't ask. It'd take far too long to explain. Same reasons the World Series is mostly American.

If you can imagine each of the States putting their best Country and Western singers against each other while Stephen Colbert does the announcing, you've got the America equivalent. :)

The World Series is mostly American as they did try to get people from other countries to join it but apparently nothing really came of it, and they didn't bother to change the name.

That would be awesome and I would watch, but it'd be better if they included all genres.

The hats... I can't look away from the hats!

I watched the semi-final last night because I couldn't change the channel, won't be watching it tomorrow though. Mainly as it's really, really not my thing.

Definitely not worth my time, although when I was younger my mum and I would take the mick out of the contestants and give them nicknames and stuff. Good times.

The biggest joke ever, not even considering the fact that it's all rigged. Unless you are from Eastern Europe, you barely have a shot at winning.
Like totally.. I mean.. Since 1990 East European countries have won 5 times.
Thats one more time than Ireland alone in the same time-span!

Totally rigged!
