I liked the fellows with the pointy hats, wherever they hailed from. Other than that, it was a predictably lacklustre year. Nothing will ever come close to matching .
That song is AWESOME! did it win?
OT:I don't have the ability to watch it because of living in Canada but after going through youtube. I really want to watch it now!

It's a guilty pleasure :)

I know it's campy as hell and aside from the occasional decent song everything is utter crap, but it's fun for what it is. Besides, I have a thing for multicultural events, it's just kind of nice to see so many countries coming together for things like this, it reminds you how many different cultures there actually are in the world.

That said, It would be sooooo much more enjoyable if Sweden's entry wasn't so embarrassing. Seriously, it's beyond awful, even for a Eurovision song.

i love listening to people who complain about the evil "eastern europa" when they lose, because lets be honest, nothing is so childish like blaming other for your pile of **** xD

its about 50/50 so yeah.... but then again i guess that "western ubermensch nations" cant bear losing to "inferior eastern Neanderthals" XD

ps Netherlands here btw, we lost. shame, because this year we actually had a decent song! not like the last 2 stinking piles of ****......

pps and yeah, i watch it mostly for laughs. those people who "dont care for it" and yet next day are blazing with fury xD

ppps this post is meant as "not really serious".

pppps but you've probably noticed this

It's very lame, no doubt about that. And calling it pop is an insult to well-made pop IMO.

But it can be fun to watch if youre drunk and spend the evening critisizing how people look, dress and dance. Which is excatly what i will be doing.

I'm from Australia and have been watching it for a number of years. Sometimes you get some really good music and there's always something to laugh at. It's also something quite different that we really don't have an equivalent of out here (not that I would watch an Australian variant).

I think it's also a good thing that the countries enter their 'best' every year and not their REAL best (ie : not established professionals like Blind Guardian, Nightwish, etc). It means there's more chance of a surprise for people like myself who have never heard of the acts.

Yup, seen the two semis as well. Quite a bit of fun imo. Always a bit of fun hearing the Swedish commentators moan about how the Eastern countries only give points to eachother and just accept that we give high points to at least 2, usually all, Nordic countries in the final, maybe with Estonia thrown in as well. The fact that 7 of the last 11 winners have a Baltic coast doesn't seem to matter much to them.

I would be watching if I owned a TV. I love Eurovision. I'm told that's odd for an Australian, but yeah, I like Eurovision.
I'm told that it isn't odd for an Australian, and that Australia is the only non-European country with commentators.

Okay, if you don't mind me asking:

What is the point of Eurovision? I'm from the U.S..
Originally it was meant to foster peace among nations and spread knowledge of your own culture across bla bla bla. Now it's just for fun.

All it really seems to be is some pointless contest between the European countries and some others (like Azerbaijan & Morocco. How do they count?).
It isn't the EU doing it, it's the EBU - European Broadcasting Union, which means that every country who are members of the EBU are eligible to compete. That includes almost all of Europe, northern Africa and western Asia. Technically there are latitudes and longitudes limiting which countries are eligible to be part of the EBU. And yes, it is a pointless contest, but so are most contests. This just happens to be a hugely expensive contest with viewing figures estimated to over 100 million every year.

Unfortunately being Maltese I have to suffer weeks upon weeks of coverage of this damn thing, treating the winning local singer (yes, there's actually ANOTHER contest to decide who's going in the actual thing) like the second coming of Christ. It all gets better when they don't even make it to the finalist stage and either earn the scorn of the zealots or fall into obscurity.

I don't see the point of going there anymore if everyone expects to win. They will NEVER win. We're a freaking island in more ways than literal.

No, thank you. Just turned down an offer to watch it with some relatives. There's just not enough good songs to warrant watching it. And holy shit, the entry from us(Sweden) is absolutely terrible. UGH!

I might watch it, but only because the Eurovision contest is the easiest and simplest way of seeing what your contries political standings are throughout the rest of Europe.

I'd like to watch it, but sadly I'm at work during the first couple of hours. However, I'll certainly be watching it on BBC iPlayer, along with the semi-finals (which I missed due to work and seeing a play, respectively). Hoping the UK do well, though as we don't have Andrew Lloyd Webber involved this year (the main reason we actually did well and got 5th out of all the crap places we've come in the past decade), I don't really have high hopes. Blue may be a decent and popular/famous group. That doesn't mean they're any good for a competition like this.

Also, to those British people who say Terry Wogan was the only thing that made it good - yes, he was an amazingly awesome commentator, and it's a shame he left. But Graham Norton does a great job too, just as good as Wogan ever did, and adds his own humour and personality into it, which, quite frankly, I like. Just because things change, doesn't mean they become worse... :p

I watch it for the laugh really. I don't take it seriously at all. The country doesn't seem to take it that seriously either, often sending idiots to represent us. Atleast this year we have Blue, which I've atleast heard of, which is more than I can say for the past 5 or 6 entrys. Not saying I'm a massive fan of their song, though.

Too much friendship voting as well. Although we've had some pretty piss poor entrys(Which usually causes us to end up last), there has been even worse entrys getting quite a few points, because they have 50 neighbours each giving them a couple of points, where has we only have 1. Okay, we do have Malta vote for us, fine, but that's about it.

Just a damn shame Terry Wogan stopped commentating it. His comments always made it hilarious.

I'll probably be watching it for the sarcastic commentary. With that in mind, this joke was in my inbox this week:

Q. What's blue and can't sing?

A. Blue.

Yeah, it is mostly pop music, I agree. But still there are some really good entries every year and some hilariously bad. This year Portugal and Moldova probably deserve some kind of prize for ridiculously awful entries.
I didn't saw our entry(portuguese), but the musicians are actually kind of recognized in here.
They are guys who started in a TV show,in a "alternative" tv channel fighting for the revolution (a luta, btw), and just exploded into mainstream media. And quite frankly, we don't have much to offer, so the ones that went to eurovision just sticked with people.
So,... that's why it sucked...

I remember watching it one year and the commentator guessed 99% of the votes correctly, while points were being given.
He couldn't stop laughing at the later stages of it. Neither could i, honestly.

I just can't believe Jedward got into it. Im my opinion, I'd rather sit watching Friday on constant loop than listen to them. And besides......they wear hedgehogs on their head >.>

Nope not really. But I'm aware of it's existence and I do not approve of it. I still of terrible memories from the times my parents forced me to watch that show. *shudders*

I'm still baffled by how Jedward got through the semi final. Are the viewers deaf and blind or something?

I was hoping that they'd crash and burn, so it would knock them off their high horse. Maybe then they'd realise how much they suck.

Aw heck yes Eurovision. Although it has suffered ever since they started having rounds to weed out the totally crap people, and it will never be the same since Terry Wogan stopped commentating it. Considering he almost got banned because he slagged everything off one year, and called the hosts "Doctor Death and the Tooth fairy" and they took it badly.
