Whilst other countries like Spain and France don't seem to produce any famous metal bands. I'm sure they have some good metal bands, but none come to mind.
I'll admit the overwhelming glut of metal in Europe tends to be either Scandinavian or German, but you're honestly unaware of any metal bands from Spain or France?
A chance to put my Metal knowledge to work, whee!
I have diagnosed you with a deficit of Dark Moor, the awesometastic Symphonic Power Metal band from Spain:

You're also missing your recommended intake of Karelia from France:
And if Gothic Metal is your thing, I've penned a review [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.194210-Gildans-Guide-to-Good-Music-Penumbra-Seclusion] of the French Gothic Metal band Penumbra's last album.

Heh, thanks for that. Do you think you could make an entire Eurovision line up with one metal band per country? If you can do that without using google i will be impressed. Btw, read your review you linked. My ears are very sensative to growling so Penumbra wasn't my kind of thing, but i'll follow up on the bands you list at the end of the article.

Don't let those vids fool you, it can be really bad sometimes.
That. Song. Was. Awesome!

Personally i've always thought it would be nice, and perhaps rather funny, if there was a heavy metal version of Eurovision. This is mainly because most of the music i listen to is power metal or related to it- and a heck of a lot that is European. Europe makes a lot of good metal music. The problem is that some countries like Germany, Holland, UK, and Scandindinvia produce loads of good metal it would be a too harder a choice to assign one band to each country. Whilst other countries like Spain and France don't seem to produce any famous metal bands. I'm sure they have some good metal bands, but none come to mind.
Well, Keep of Kalessin did enter the "Melodi grand prix" (the Norwegian version of ESC, that we use for choosing our representative.) with this song.

(you may skip the first minute)

They did not win though.

Edit: This guy won instead:

You must have taken a serious blow to the head.

Anyway, what happened to this guy?

That actually beat our entry in 2008.

As his guitar shrunk, his hair grew exponentially. It eventually engulfed him entirely. He was never seen again

About 90% of it is shit, but in a way that's both funny and sad. Taste is apparently rare here in Europe, because most of the entries are downright embarassing.

Saying that, I am slightly interested in how things turn out, some years at least. This year (and most years), Denmark's entry is awful, despite being called a favourite in our media. I hope we fail badly and start not sending shitty "artists". Not that they would learn anything by consistent failure, but they might surprise me!

The really frightening part is that everything is voted on by people, and the entries have won their national competition, which begs the question of who the hell they competed against?

You're welcome!

As for the Eurovision thing, I'm not entirely clear on how it works - is it really every country in Europe competing?
*goes to look it up*

Ah, yes, it is - well then the answer would be no, I cannot. The involvement of the former Soviet-bloc countries that I know little to nothing about in general, let alone whether they have any metal bands[footnote]Offhand I can only think of metal bands from the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, France, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria, and Greece. Oh, and Israel, since I think I saw somebody say they compete in Eurovision for some odd reason.[/footnote] in specific, somewhat nixes my hopes of doing that.

Meh, I have nothing better to do so I'm watching it. With the sing-a-long thing on, so I can understand the other languages.

Edit: Voting from the start, yay!

England isn't a country in Europe... It's an area inside the United Kingdom.

Edit 3: Interesting piece by Serbia

Edit 4: Biggest TV show in the world.

I am surprised that countries that are literally sunk in debt participate in this edition.Surely 90% of GDP debt ain't enough heh? Anyway , I wish everyone luck but we all know that some country with lots of friendly neighbors will win this.

PS: And I am back to the Escapist , missed posting here :<

I sure hope Greece doesn't win , that would be a pretty cynical joke . No offense guys , but you have bigger problems now to solve and don't need a Eurovision to add to it.

If they get it in Athens they get more money. I guess that's the logic there. And they are pretty successful, as it said on TV.

Indeed, fap fap fap at Armenia.

Graham isn't that annoying, Terry Wogan was better. I can imagine some are annoying.

"We squeezed them so much" wow that was out of context for Portugal.

Eurgh, listening to it and I don't know why. None of these songs appeal to my musical taste. Also, am I only one who noticed that the Estonia guy looked scarily similar to Matt Bellamy?
