Germany had a pretty good song. It's not often that one can get off the sofa saying: "The right song won tonight" Tonight was not one of those nights. Being both Portuguese and Finnish, I found it pretty amazing that Portugal's cringefest made it but Finland's entry didn't. Also, the contest is somewhat of a joke these days since every bloody ex-Yugoslavian/Soviet country is in there voting for their neighbors. Finally, Israel. Not even in Europe.

I'm Dutch, but I hope to God the Netherlands end dead last. I don't care who wins, but I'll be happy if we end with zero points.

Maybe if we lose enough we'll give up on the whole stupid thing in the future.
Doesn't mean anything. Portugal is the only country on it since before 1990 never winning, is among (according to wikipedia) the five worst average scores of eurovision and the only country running since before 2000 never finishing in the top 5 of the final.

If we didnt win when we overdrawned our dictatorship in 1974 (ended up last) not when we sent Dulce Pontes, what most juris said was the best voice in Eurovision ever till that time (1991) ending up 8th with 62 pts.

Could be our motto: "Portugal, self humiliating since 1964".

PS. Actually next year Portugal will have declared bankrupcy and since its the state television network financing the portuguese entries in the competition, the humiliation will come to an end.

EDIT: And most of the times the songs are torturing awful, amking you wish to blow the brains of whoever wrote them.

Ha, so Germany won? I've been saying it since the competition started that either Germany or Turkey should've won. And I say Turkey should've been first, Germany second, but eh, since 2005's Eurovision, where Helena Paparizou won, instead of Wig Wam with their "In My Dreams", I've started to become accustomed to the fact that Eurovision will always disappoint me with the winners.

And since the whole of Europe votes (I don't mean everyone, just lots and lots of people from every country), I guess I'm kind of disappointed in Europe.

But on another note: I liked Germany, my favourite in there.

But on ANOTHER note: How the hell did Turkey come second? They were awfull...

I only watched the part where they started giving points, Belgium was in second place for awhile, which surprised me to be honest (they dropped to sixth shortly after that). But about halfway through you knew who was going to win as Germany started getting this massive lead.
Honestly, I hated the German entry, not so much because of the song, but because of that girl's voice, I always cringe when I hear her talk or sing.

Russia was the only one that was somewhat talented and Armenia had that hot tall chick.

To bad none of them won.

Two words; Graham Norton. I can't stand him, so I missed Eurovision this year. Not that much happened, from what I hear. UK terrible, as always. Why don't they just bring back Bowie?

Germany won? That's unprecedented. I think the song was decent, but wasn't exactly Eurovision material.

The way I see it there's only 1 good song about satelittes and love and that one is by Mr. Lou Reed.

He's way too good for this shit, he'd never do it in a million years in modern times.

There were definitely some good songs out this year beside of the usual crap in the ESC and they even ended up with a good placing - I'am amazed!

Lena really had a great song this year (and I'am not saying this as a german here - i really liked her song as it was something different from the usual Celine-Dion / Electrobeat stuff that most of the other nations pulled out). The Turkish entry was also great as was that belgish singer.

On a side note: I always find it interesting to see how political animosities or bonds show up in the votings e.g. Russia - Belarus,Ukraine and Greece,Cyprus,Armenia - Turkey.
So much about musical quality transcending national borders there....

Except for Lordi. God, they were awful.
Finnish here, I agree. I felt unimaginable shame when I heard they were going there.

This year was apparently the usual setup, all complete garbage.

I may watch it if I'm not busy. It can be fun if you make a party of it.
Mhmm, it definitely was.

I quite enjoyed France and Moldova. And none of us realised it at the time, but thinking about it afterwards the interval act was insanely good, getting people all over Europe to do the same dance routine - the point being, if it wasn't for the subtitles telling you which city was being shown, you wouldn't know the difference.

And that my friends is what the Eurovision used to be about.

Stopped watching it after Terry left. What's the point if it isn't funny?
Actually Graham Norton was funnier than Terry...
I disagree.

I agree with that.

Anyway, did not think Germany should have won.

But I did enjoy Anonymous's reaction to it.

I enjoyed the Flashmob thing, that was excellent.

Shame Germany won, the song was so so, does any one remember when people who were not already famous were the only ones allowed to enter?

I think it's a bit unfair that the German entry was a number 1 hit. Pants.

Shame UK came last, but what were we expecting, really?

Let's ask Dame Edna to go next year and do a strip tease?
Our german girl wasn't really famous already. She won a casting show that was held just to get a good candidate for the contest because we lost hard in the last years. She's only been known for about a month or so.

Anyway. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay we won! ;P
You should have won with Dita Von Teese! (The singing was shite... but it's Dita Von Teese for god sake!)
Well I think the shitty singing of Alex Christensen and Oscar Loya overshadowed her.
But it's Dita!!! :)
Hello NURSE! You've got my vote good looking :*
Darn it! It's just a poster.

Never watched it, but I know UK always lose and this year was no different. Last years entry was rather good though, for once.
It is a bit unfair, as (from what a friends Facebook status said) manGa are really famous and even won an MTV award, which is a bit bias.

Seriously, why do people feel some kind of accomplishment, when some untalented singer (or sports team for that matter) happens to share their nationality?
I'd say it has to do with liking the respective style of music or sport, and that it gives them a reason to be happy. And everyone wants to be happy =P
