You're reading into a subtext that isn't there. What I said was pretty straightforward. Bullying is fucking stupid. But people are fucking sensitive and cry about even the smallest things. Obviously punching your tormentor out or taking him to court is are both much better coping strategies than crying before hanging yourself/jump of a bridge/slit your wrists.

If you're being bullied atm all I can say is man the fuck up. Some people let it take them down, some people grow and become stronger in themselves through it. Be the latter or darwinism will fix you up. Cold? Not really. There is worse things that can happen to you in the world.

Your complete lack of empathy is somewhat concerning. Ever wonder why politicians think video games ought to carry warning stickers, look in the mirror.
You are the one unable to be empathic as likely you have never been bullied. I know how these people feel and know what they are going through. My entire upbringing I was being bullied and excluded. So no, games are only a form of escapism. Just like books. The reason why I think they should man up and fight back instead of being suicidal weaklings is because that is their only option. I learned that the hard way. Manning up and fighting back makes it stop and puts you on the right track in life. Gives you self-confidence to do things you want to do. If you are just somebody's ***** your entire life you are not really worth the air you are breathing in the long run. It's sink or swim. It is simple.

Excuses me but I suffered from PTSD after dealing with events in Kosovo due to which my first wife left me. I think I might understand depression a little more than you. Precisely how am I supposed to man up after dealing with pulling the corpses of murdered woman and children out of van that had been half sunk in river? How is a work colleague of mine supposed to man up when he lost his mother and sister inside 6 months due to cancer? In adult life you will encounter large number of poeple dealing with personal tragedies and you will find there are worse things in the world the being bullied in the playground. There is an old saying used by real men that you ought to learn, dont kick a man while hes down. What makes you think because of your limited experience dealing with a few school bullies makes you an expert in dealing with the problems of adult life.

Just... Don't get drunk at conventions or gaming tournaments... It never ends well if you're expected to speak. If you're a quiet drunk who just giggles alot go nuts. But if you're the chatty type, refrain.

You WILL say something you regret, to someone, and that person may or may not be in a public arena, and the whole internet may or may not get wind of your asshat-ery.

This is the first public apology I've heard that hasn't evoked the sensation that the person apologizing has their mother standing behind them, proding them to say "I'm very sorry" in a forced, eyes-staring-at-shoes fashion.

It might just be me, but he actually sounds heartfelt and profusely sorry about the repercussions his actions have had. He acknowledged what happened. Wow. He accepted blame for it without making excuses. Amazing. He probably has personally sent a private apology to the victim. It makes me want to show this to some company's (no names) PR reps, telling them that next time you do something riddiculous or bone-headed, that this is how it is done.

Anyways, props to the guy in a tough situation. It's not my job to forgive you your actions, but at least you've earned a bit of respect back.

This guy runs the biggest fleet of griefers in the entire game he is lying about his apology.
Yeah, I've locked horns with him once or twice over corruption in the CSM. It's nice to know he can be just as much an arrogant twit in real life.

They got 7000 ships ready for battle. A gigantic spy network, if a coporation even suggests attacking them they get 7000 ships turning their bases to ash.
If you want to have a fuel line you would need to be able to fight 7000 ships 2000 of which are capital ships.
And even if an alliance becomes big enough it will be targeted and put on a threat list by the goons.
And How can you field thousands of capital ships if you cant even fuel them?
They also got VERY deep pockets they could hire thousands of mercenaries or just bribe alliance members.
I might point out that even with Time Dilation, they can't actually field all 7000 without crashing the node, which is a favorite tactic of theirs if losing. (And, believe it or not, goons do occasionally lose to other big alliances [and more humorously to small corps when properly ambushed], which is why all of nullsec isn't theirs.)

The things that do bother me about goons is that they're just as bad as BoB when it comes to outright cheating in game. The Mitt admitted that they have their own pet devs just like BoB did in an interview several years ago on TenTonHammer and for years they have been making their isk due to the fact that they have had a near monopoly on certain moon goo as well as, according to some sources, exploiting the old POS recycling bug to produce even more of said moon goo than they actually mined.

OMG I just listened to his speech. 'CCP Threw Me Under a Bus!' 'I'm a little pissed off about being nailed to a cross.'

And, frankly, he's likely going to crash Jita with that many ships, most likely.

This reminds me of that earlier story about the guy who webcammed his gay roommate making it public and posting it on the internet causing him to commit suicide, and is being charged with manslaughter and possible deportation to India. He's lucky this guy shrugged it off.

This Mitt guy still doesn't get it. He was filmed encouraging people to hound an emotionally undeliverable person. CCP did the minimum amount of damage control in banning him for 30 days anything less would been see as condoning the harassment. Even if there was no link with Sony a story like this could cause them vast amounts of negative publicity and threaten there commercial viability. Play EVE online, we will try to make you kill yourself isnt the best advert there ever has been

This is EvE.

Roaming bands of griefers wander the server, looking for noobs and other potential victims. Not to even make isk, but just to ruin someone's day. EvE caters to the guys that get banned in other MMOs for the sort of behavior that most places label 'cyber bullying' and it was only a matter of time before it bit CCP in the ass.

This is a game where, even if you lose your ship to a known bug, unless the bug is server side, CCP refuses to refund your stuff. Where exploits are 'fair gameplay' until CCP decides otherwise, and having your own private GMs and Devs is an 'I Win' button.

For those unfamiliar with EvE, we have some graphics that get bandied about a lot. I used to show this to noobs so they understood EvE at it's most basic:

EvE System Security ratings (Note, Mittens lives in 0.0, but the 'Jita' he talks about hitting in his little speech is a trade hub in High Sec):

ATM CCP has been trying to improve the noob experience to drive new subscribers to the game. However, Mittens just gave that effort a huge black eye by showing the gaming world what they will really have to deal with when playing the game.

Because this is about bullies. Not what happened in your or his past. Bullies are irrelevant petty cretins that people shouldn't give a crap about. But he actually listened to them and took their mean-spirited words to heart. Wich is stupid. Lol "Real men". Just becuase you had a few shitty things happen to you it doesn't make you a "real" man. And trying to guilt trip people because you had a shit life just says alot more about you. And im not the one who needs to learn that saying. The bullies are. I'm not the one bullying him. So spare me your anecdotes as your experiences are irrelevant to what happened to him as you clearly pulled through.

If I started bullying you for your wife leaving you, would you kill yourself or punch me face in? See. Thats the difference between you and him.

You know what you exhibit exactly the same narcissistic tendencies and the moron who caused all the problems. Your problems were incredibly minor in the greater scheme of things, but of course they were yours and therefore the worst thing ever. Someone took your lunch money big deal. Real is life unpleasant and complicated and guess what you get ill and you know what depression is real illness with a medical definition. So grow and work out the world doesn't revolve around you

Yes because getting bullied in school only entails lunch money. The world doesn't revolve around more nor does it you. Your problems were incredibly minor as well in the greater scheme of things so your point is? Moot. So if anyone is narcissistic it's you with your "Holier-than-thou" mentality. So don't pretend to you think you know me.

You still seem to miss the point. But ill chalk that up to you not understanding the language so any further discussion with you is quite futile and pointless. As like you are accusing me, you only see it YOUR way.
What's funny is that you think that bullying is limited to school or words. Everyone has their pressure points. Everyone. Find the right one, and any human being can be made to break like glass. Some are vulnerable to harassment. Some to destroying their careers. Some to manipulating their families. Some to plain old fashioned pain.

What Mittani did was not only wrong, it was criminal. And, further, if the person had killed themselves over it, would have opened every last member of Goons to civil suits and possible criminal charges, as well as CCP.

It actually was heartfelt.

A lot of his own people thought he was trolling.

UPDATE:
Mittens has been banned for 30 days
Mittens has been punted from CSM 7
Mittens has been made unable to participate in CSM 8

Here is his latest speech in the state of the goons address: http://soundcloud.com/cptunderpants/state-of-the-goonion-march
If it was actually heartfelt, why is he pissed about "being thrown under the buss" or "nailed to the cross".

What is funny is that you think you know me. Thus making you look like a tool. You do not know what I think so do not presume that you do. Im talking about all forms of bullying and you are just purposefully avoiding my points and making up your own meaning for them. You can troll someone else know. I care not for your prattling anymore.
I'm guessing you didn't read the post or English isn't your first language. Your personal situation was irrelevant to my post, as is your response. My point was that every human being has their breaking point, and that each responds to a different kind of pressure differently.

You have not refuted this, nor have you had any points against it.

Oh, and by the way, if you are going to arrogantly dismiss what I have to say, be sensible enough to use 'now' instead of 'know'.

'Mark', n, "someone who joins EVE online these days"

Seriously, you'd have to be completely mental to consider joining this game these days. It's just a massive social "experiment" to see how much griefing you can get away with.

heart felt? he blamed it on the booze, did some one make him drink it?

he had a slide in his per-prepared presentation about going after this guy, as in he thought this out, that is not an accidental anecdote about an encounter that a drunk took to far thats an ass setting out to bully some one

Sadly, I agree. The quality and quantity of genuine noobs is down due to all the greifing. CCP is going to have to overhaul their sandbox if they want to remain competitive, and I don't mean just the graphics.

This guy obviously only considers it "unacceptable" because he got caught/in trouble for it.

If he TRULY thought it was unacceptable, he'd never have done it in the first place.
