Righty then first topic so be gentle with me. I used to play Eve....alot, but I left it after a while when things started to seem old and repetitive as most MMO's get (My little dig there) but i'd just like to see what other people think about it thought it might start a bit of discussion on my first topic.

Thanking you in advance.

Well you could always foster corperation wars so you have something to do in your free-time. Or save the prostitutes.(The leader of my corporation I am in does this on a regular basis, he could fill a mammoth with all the prostitutes he has I bet.)

Look at it this way, the majority of the people here are going to call you an utter freak for liking EVE (they all seem to play FPS games relentlessly). I really quite enjoy it, I'll say it now, i like the idea of an RPG in which you have such a huge arsenal of weapons, tactics and (most importantly) skills and i love the idea of an MMO. Combine these and in my opinion you end up with EVE. I like being able to pick skills to enhance my character in ways not many others will have rather than falling into the same 1-3 standard 'builds' of predefined classes like you end up with in most games.

That said EVE isnt without its issues: Lag, many unhelpful or unmerciful players, a bloody complicated system of doing things and a HUGE learning curve. Most importantly i think that if you just run missions and/or mine your going to get bored quickly. PvP is where the actions at for me and for that you need a corp.

In short; its a bit like marmite. Some might look at the skill training constantly like your being rewarded for not playing, others see it is a good way to build up your character without incessant farming. You could look upon the reams and reams of skills and be totally bedazzled or start planning your badass. You either love it or hate it i find, and for now i love it.

I played it for a bit, but i was also playing WoW and there is no way to do both of those at the same time.
EvE really is a good time if you have a fun corp. Even dicking around while protecting the others in the corp who are mining, is fun with the right people. Plus, all that time spent traveling etc, allows you to ask questions and get a good grasp on the different aspects of the game. If I ever get an internet connection above 26kbps again, then i'll probably start playing once more.
They key to that game is you have to play with other people. You don't *have* to, obivously; but it's about 9999999x better when you do.

My best friend loves Eve, but to me, it is the single most boring timesink ever created. I mean come on, you advance by NOT PLAYING. It's ridiculous. And there is nothing to do other than float around in empty space shooting a laser at rocks until some gargantuan sneaks up and destroys you.

What bullshit - you click "train skill" and then you go out and play missions. You don't have to grind hours into a skill you don't give a shit about, you just click 'train' and then do what you want.

If you're looking for a game that challenges you on the GUI level, like a good shooter would, then EVE Online is a colossal disappointment. It's a completely hands-off game, where you're essentially George Jetson who pushes one button and sits back while things get done. At least EverQuest gave you a "kick" button.

If a game that lets you level-up while you're logged out and is essentially a giant economy sim in space gets you sexually excited, then run, don't walk over to EVE Online's 14-day free trial.

I played EVE for about 3 days (trial account) because some people said it's really good. I tried to get into it but it's impossible for me.

EVE is too complex for me (not that I'm stupid or something like that I'm just lazy). I don't want to learn for a few days until I can play the game seriously.

See, some hate it, others love it but many jump on the bandwagon having never tried it

It was quite frankly the worst fifteen minutes Ive ever had in a videogame. Its just really bad and I don't understand how some one could like it. But to each his/her own

There has never been such as a thing as a "good MMORPG"
WOW before it became assland (i.e. before expansions/millions of players).

Theres another one I can't remember the name of. It pre-dates WOW/EVE but is still awesome. -_-

Starwars Galaxies before the NCE patch.

And to the OP: Search button. We have had a steam group, and three other non-related topics on EVE within the last week or two.

WoW was great before TBC assraped it, during the days it was actually playable, i'd imagine it would've been better then EVE.
Now, however, i'd almost consider thinking about considering the thought of buying EVE. (it's gonna be a while ;)

I happen to enjoy EVE's grind, which for me makes that particular RPG "good". Being good or bad is subjective. It depends entirely on what you enjoy.

I thought it was pretty fun. Not as good as WOW, but I can definitely see why people would like it. It's very different from other MMOs and being able to just tell your character to train a skill while you do something that you actually enjoy is a nice change of pace.

Good, find any other EVE thread and they'll tell a mix of opinions just the same, you didn't need to make a new thread just because you couldn't be bothered to use the search button.
Its not that I find myself incapable of using a search button its that I found myself wanting to make my own topic and if thats such a huge problem to you then why did you click on the topic and take the time to write a reply the only answer I could come up with is that you obviously have too much time on your hands that being said get a hobby instead :)(rant over)

I loved the idea of the skill training without having to play it gave the more casual gamer a chance to keep up with the more hardcore but hardcore players will still have the advantage of being able to fund themselves much better than the casuals therefore putting the skills they have learnt to much better use so it still pays to play :p
