Unfortunately, no.
The one time I bought a game without extensive research, I ended up with Crysis - which I had never heard of before.

Never.
Again.
The only real reason to buy Crysis is for bragging rights/curing your curiosity as to whether you can run the damned thing.
Then... you realize that the game just isn't very good.

OT: Harvester. I had heard about it from a friend, and then once I actually got around to playing it.. I was astounded. Most underrated Point and click game... EVAR.

I rarely buy games I've never heard of so no. Even if it comes highly recommended I research it first before I buy.

The best game I've ever spent money on without knowing what it was was probably RTK7. But that was a rental, so it doesn't really count.

Knights of the Old Republic. I had heard of it but knew nothing about it. I decided to buy myself a copy and to this day it still remains the game I consider the best RPG of all time.

JetSet Radio Future. Never heard of it, but fell in love with it after a few minutes. It's the game that drove me to buy an Xbox in the first place.

I even have my avatar to prove how much I love the game.

Unfortunately... MapleStory... but it was free so I don't think that counts.
You poor soul.

Ugh...Maple Story. It's hardly free when you buy tons of NexCash so you look kewlz. T-T

I kept seeing Culdscept Saga at the local Game Crazy, and I finally bought it.

Damn good choice.

Games that come to mind include Crimson Sea for Xbox, as well as Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, also for Xbox.

God of War. My mom got it for me for christmas, because I needed at least one game under the tree (my present that year was SCUBA diving off the Florida Keys). She grabbed it because it was mislabeled at $9.99 (20 bucks cheaper than what it was supposed to be), and I thought it would be a piece of mediocrity with bad gameplay.

Boy was I wrong...

Still patiently waiting for you, Number 3.

Thankfully, I was played that via torrent. That way I didn't have to lose my money. Which I felt like doing after playing that game.

You're right... I unfortunately did fall into the NXCash trap once... but that was once and will never happen again. It's actually a pretty fun game and I don't really see the difference between a free game like MS and a big expensive game like WoW. They have basically the same elements and it's obviously much cheaper and less like crack...

Warcraft 2. It isn't my favorite anymore, but it was at the time (its sequel replaced it). Also, my cousin burned me the cd, I didn't buy it.

Skies of Arcadia: Legends definitely falls into that category. I bought it at Gamestop back in the olden days when I didn't know what a JRPG was, and it enthralled me.
Same! I ended up being bought it for a birthday by parents who had simply picked a game out of the shop, it was a really interesting game, infuriating at times, but a brilliant story and plenty of random content to find. Oh the days I spent flying around looking for crew members...
