Ever have the urge to play your old consoles?

The older games are why I wish backward compatibility on the current generation of consoles was more than just straight emulation. I've been particularly pampered by the community options, and I'd like to, say, use the Xbox Live Party chat while playing an older Xbox game.

Or, taking it a step further, play older multiplayer games with online capability (Contra 3, Star Fox 64). Still in split-screen of course for the nostalgic feeling of huddling next to each other in front of a TV.

(So glad Perfect Dark for 360 included a splitscreen for online co-op. I missed simply using screen looking to get a bearing on my partner's location.)

EDIT: XBLA/PSN versions of the Sonic Adventure games need to be made. With Tiny Chao Gardens being on the Zune and PSP respectively, and online battle, Chao interactions, etc. Maybe Co-op could be thrown in, somehow. (I can't think of any other Microsoft portables. Leave me be.)

I still have my old consoles/handhelds, but I don't use them a whole lot anymore. I still play some of the games, but I'm much more likely to use an emulator to do it, even for stuff I have a physical copy of, because I'm way too lazy to plug things in or switch inputs on my monitor or go dig through a stack/box of games for the right cartridge/disc. I mean, I could go fire up the VIC-20 or SNES or whatever else on my shelf if I really wanted to, but for anything 2D I have this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingoo], which fits in my pocket, and my PC can handle at least up through the PS2 just fine (still trying to get the GC/Wii emulator working right, which I'm ripping my own games for and will hopefully get sorted out before the Wii's disc drive dies on me).

The shadowrun game that I played on the sega genesis. I don't even remember the point of that game but I found it amusing.

I fired up the PS2, mainly to play Final Fantasy 8 and 9, when my 360 red-ringed a couple of months ago. Aside from that, I rarely bother. Perhaps if I was still living at home or in my own place, but I'm in a tiny room at university so I don't have enough space for more than what I regularly use.

What a ridiculous question! Of course I do! Why would anyone buy a system and then not play it as soon as something new and shiny comes out. The only reason I can see not to play an old console is if you have a backwards compatable newer one.

But seriously, I play my SNES more than I do my 360.

Yeah. I still have a dreamcast, PS2, and my Pikachu N64. I've been meaning to go back and play Okami on the PS2.

Yes, but the lack on online connection makes it very lonely experience, and the wired controllers make it a little annoying. I have a really nice SD TV, so the graphics never look horrible.

I still say, after 16 years, that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles is my favorite game. So yes, I play old-school games plenty often. Thank god for emulators.

I'm having a really big blast to the past at the moment. I'm trying to finally finish "Digital Devil Saga" on the PS2 (and I'm still buying used games for it), bought a used Xbox because Microsoft didn't bother to make any of the games I was interested in backwards compatible and I'm looking for sailors in "Shenmue". Sooo... go figure...

Mostly, because most games these days are shit.
Very well said. I'm bored to hell with all this marine, brown/green/grey, realistic and predictable shit out there. The graphics may not be up to date anymore, but the SNES, PS1 and PS2 eras did at least know how to make good games.

Yes. Now less that before, with the classic games all getting re-releases on Wii, PS3, and 360. I just rebuy them instead of digging out the old cartridge

SNES, PS2, Xbox and 360 all hooked up to the same TV. The Xbox doesn't get much of a look in anymore, sadly, but the others are played very frequently.

Its all about having a gamecube in our 6th form common room where we can have endless MarioKart competitons all day long. The chance to get a controller is fought over so fiercely, its great.

That and mercenaries on the original xbox. When the merc series was good. Blowing up both edges to a bridge with AI stuck in the middle and watch as they got confused and drove to their deaths. Priceless.
