apparently loads of people on the escapist do. I have never had faith in the race, because a large group is as stupid as the dumbest person in it, minus 20. there are exceptions to that rule, and I have faith in those.

An utopian world will never exist, the human condition won't let it be so, and treat human beings as if it can is flawed from the outset.
I'm not sure that's what I was saying...not that it's entirely wrong.
Sorry, I didn't mean to put words in your mouth (or anything else for that matter, because I know that sort of thing makes you a saaaad paaanda...). I just took you're point about how this thread is rooted in idealism and kinda went off on one as to why idealism is stupid. It's usually well intended, but stupid nonetheless.

I was just pointing out that morality is an invention of the mind...and so entirely subjective. We pick and choose what is right based on what serves our societies better(mostly...it's a process). It might be socially beneficial...but can never truely be "right"...Because there isn't really a grounds for claiming that something is right. Rendering all human debate worthless!

Not really "worthless"(self quoting is lame, I know), it's nice to try and make our existence as easy as possible, and to look out for eachother. I just like how you can reduce even the most caring and seemingly righteous moral arguments to arrogant nonsense by acknowledging that we are just making this shit up as we go along...
I'm not a moral relativist; I think there is an objective right and wrong. This is where we part, shake hands and walk off in different directions :)
I'm not sure that I am saying that I am a moral relativist either... I just object to the terms "right" and "wrong". I prefer to think of it in terms of social and anti-social behaviour. It describes the same thing, and draws the same conclusions, it's just less arrogant of an assertion...does that make sense?

I don't see humanity as a single homogenous mass (not even necessarily a person). So I hardly have a specific "faith" in that direction. This has also to do with that I don't assume to know and understand everything about humanity.
Well, that's that. I know this is saying nothing, it's probably not a real contribution to this thread.

Well considering the human race is overpopulating and destroying the earth, whilst innocent children die from starvation every 2 seconds because of greedy buisnessmen and people who don't care. You can guess where I stand on this issue.

I have very little faith in humanity; it's probably one of the reasons I believe in God. I rather put my faith in something that can't be proven rather than something that fails to meet the challenges that it is presented with.

Lost my faith a long time ago. I lose it even more every time I watch the news. These days, people are either ignorant, lazy, or both.

I've lost a lot of faith in the Escapist? It's hard to take comments like "this is where the intelligent gamers go" when you get threads like this on a regular basis.

If you really, really, really have no faith in humanity, then I prescribe Sleeping Pills. Take a handful and, if you can still see, take another handful or so until you can't. That'll take care of your problems nicely! If you aren't going to do that, shut the fuck up because you're now part of your own problem.

I have faith in humanity, you have to, just to make it through the day , if nothing else. Unfortunate things happen everyday, its how people manage to get past it and try and learn from the mistakes they make. I'm not saying that it happens often, but its nice when it does.

The average lifespan of my faith in humanity is about 2 and a half hours before something kills it again.

By asking if we have lost faith in humanity, you imply that we once had faith in it.

Which I never had.
Yeah... lost that along with that whole "childhood innocence" thing. But, that is why we have religion.

I swear humanity seems to take two steps forward then the actions of a few make it take five steps back.

I see articles now days where people are still being discriminated against. Or the fact that my government has a budget thats as balanced as a person with ten maxed out credit cards yet keeps spending money they don't have. People blaming video games for the stupidest things or censor and ban them.

So escapist ever lose faith in humanity?
wait wait wait....you had faith in humanity o,o?o,o....i kid but yes..everyday i look at stupid people and wonder why euthanasia is not legal -.- the best part is when poor people with no health care are urgently against something that will only benefit them...also my best friiend is a wow zombie...which is sad too

Ah, I see what you mean and I largely agree. Right and wrong, as far as I'm concerned, does correlate with social and anti-social in most cases. I also throw the notion of rationality (logical thought) into the mix, too, which completes my definition. Right is what is both rational and social, and wrong is what is both irrational and anti-social.

Have we digressed from the OT? Possibly :p

No.

When anyone says it on the internet they're just being melodramatic.

And a pussy.

Yeah. All the time.
I'm sure you find this stuff worrrying, but it's too damn funny for me to give a shit.

OT: I've not lost my faith in humanity. I know bad things happen and it make most people here get all melodramatic but I just don't see the point in giving up.

China buried some old lady alive in a new development. (Police stood by and watched.)
A school in the USA had separate proms for blacks and whites. (No word on where the mixed-race kids go.)
Everyone between Lebanon and Sinai is caught up in an ongoing fight over stuff that's happened over the last sixty-some years, and some of them're using stuff that happened before that to justify it.
Chinese prostitutes have had to leave Damascus because 13-yr-old Iraqi refugee girls are undercutting them. Their customers are Saudis who got rich on the war that made them into refugees.
Blair got a third term as PM here in 2005.
People get kicked to death for asking kids to turn the music down at 1am.
Tobacco's still big business.
Out government is still too busy with the 2015 election to do anything about the issues.
The rainforests are still disappearing.
Species are still disappearing.
People still think Jeremy Clarkson's awesome. (That's using a slightly loose definition of "think" but you know what I mean.)
Modern "music" mostly consists of an autistic kid banging his head against the kick-bass while some middle-class brat moans about being a poor kid from some slum and threatens to kill anyone who doesn't like it.

Yeah, I've given up on humanity.

While I initially agreed with the title, I soon realised that I did NOT agree with those in the discussion boards.
