I have yes. Back in 2006 I developed a bad pain in my wrist and I couldn't hold a controller for about two days. Worst two days of my life.
Did you get the pain from gaming? Like repetitive strain injury or some such?

I'm on a forced break, since my 360 RR'd a couple hours ago. Again.
That sucks, how many times has it broke before?

My gaming interest is pretty cyclic. There's generally never a time that I'm not playing something, or at least planning on getting something, but there are a few periods throughout the year where I just don't play because I have no urge to. Whether it's a lull in good titles or something else, I don't know.

I haven't played video games in about a week, just cause of generally being busy. It's kinda the opposite with me, I never actually depend on games, or miss them when I don't play for a while. But I always end up having fun when I do make myself sit down and play them.

Because of a heavy load in school my gaming has been cut down severely. For about 6 months I have been lucky if I play on the weekends or playing during vacations.

At one point I got completely bored of the games I had and couldn't afford new ones, so I stuck the games in a cupboard and did other things for... I dunno, a year, 18 months, something like that.

As with any hobby, it's something I can pick up and put down whenever.

Well, I play games when I feel like it, so a break could be a few hours or a few days. I don't really count.

It all changes when you graduate from college or high school and enter the world of work. Between paying the bills and taxes or buying video games the former will always take over. Then throw your girlfriend/wife into the mix, then the baby, and of course your job.

You will take breaks eventually whether you like it or not.
I beg to differ. I've had bills and responsibilities for 13 years now and I've always found time for gaming. It helps that I married a gamer who plays World of Warcraft (thereby giving me plenty of time to play the Total War and Europa Universalis series), and it especially helps that neither she nor I want kids, but if we had kids you bet your ass we'd raise them to be gamers.

I bought a Gamecube, so I didn't play games for 4 years BA DUM TISH!

On a serious note, i've abstained from gaming for many months before, i'm not too bothered by it, I love gaming but I can go without doing it for quite a while, not gaming just gets you addicted to something else. Be it cylcing, reading or flirting with girls (in real life, not msn dudes.)

I usually really enjoy a good gaming break. I think I could live without them quite easily.
It also feels good to realise that you didn't need to play for a few weeks.

I take "breaks" all the time, but they aren't really planned "I think I'm going to avoid playing video games for a week" breaks. It just sort of happens when I don't have time for them. I do release a sigh of pleasure when I finally get a chance to sit down and play them again though.

I might have to take a break from 360 gaming for a short bit, as mine just celebrated its 2 year anniversary by puking. This will give me a reason to play Deus Ex again and my Chrono Trigger ROM. That and maybe Dwarf Fortress.

I've gone weeks without either PC or console before and it hurts.

I stopped once. Then I got off the loo.

A toilet joke, yeah. I went there.
You sure did, Sparrow Tag. You suuure did.

In all seriousness, I can quite easily go weeks without gaming. It's the internet I'm addicted to. I tend to get a new game, complete it in week or two, then leave a gap before my next one.

Well kick me in the balls then Simulord because I've been looking for a career for over a year now in my fields of interest and have cut back my gaming to be around 1 hour a week and I still have nothing to show for it. People like you make me feel sad.
Three simple lessons:
1) Work-life balance matters. If you let your self-identity get too caught up in your career, especially if it comes at the expense of things you enjoy like gaming, you're going to be miserable. Money isn't everything---if you've got enough to buy food, pay bills, put some away for a bad economy, and buy games, that's really all you need. I sold my TV and have AdBlock Plus on Firefox. You'd be amazed how little I feel I need to buy because I'm not bombarded by Madison Avenue trying to tell me my life sucks.
2) Gaming lasts; hotness doesn't survive to 40. If your girlfriend has a problem with you gaming, dump her. One thing I've learned as a married man is that if you want your marriage to last, you'd damn well better marry someone who won't drive you insane. I'd take it a step further and say women are like cars and beer; if you want to be happy, don't buy American. But that's just my viewpoint.
3) Kids are gamers waiting to happen. Teach them well and you'll always have someone to play with (and they'll love their dad because he's willing to play with them.)
