Ever wish the bad guy would win just to see what would happen?

I want to see something where the "bad guy" does something absolutely horrible in order to create a much better society (in the vein of Adrian Veidt), and the story focuses on the aftermath. In essence, the "heroes" who were fighting the villain before the tragedy are defeated but not killed, but if the heroes come back and kill the villain to bring him to justice, they will cause the collapse of the perfect society.
This idea was touched on at the end of "Watchmen", but I'd like to see it play out in a full-scale work with the tragedy at the beginning.

In Warhammer 40k, the bad guy wins 9 times out of 10. Actually, more like 19 times out of 20. One of the things that makes the "good guys" more heroic is the fact that they stand up to this knowing full well that there's a very real certainty they won't be comming home.

The only time I've ever wanted the bad guy to win is when they aren't really the "bad guy," but either a group with severely opposed beliefs or actual good guys cast in a bad light by a preachy writer (a la Avatar).

The All Hail Megatron series shows what happens if Megatron actually wins. It's a good comic arc.

What's so interesting about bad guys winning? So the hero fails and the bad guys get to do whatever horrible thing they had in mind which is usually taking over the world (or galaxy)and making it the way they want which usually involves lots of people miserable or dead (which may or may not be a specific group); big f-ing deal. Either someone else will eventually stop them after many others suffer and die or everybody dies and they have nothing left to destroy which will then cause them to get really bored and either go insane or kill each other. Either way power struggle will occur and the villain who comes out on top will get bored and go insane eventually.

Pixar's making a movie about that. At least, I think it's pixar. And now I can't remember what it's called.

It's fun when bad guys win, but I like it more when the lines between "good" and "bad" are blurred and you start to wonder who the protagonist really is, Blade Runner style.
You would probably like Code Geass or Death Note, then. At least, if you're not opposed to watching anime.
I am unfortunately opposed to watching anime. Don't ask me why, because I can't explain.
Ah well. Shame, as Code Geass pulls pretty much exactly what you've described. But, you do have the right to your own opinion, and I have the right to disagree. I won't press you further.

If you've ever seen the movie 'The Great Race' starring Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis - the bad guy DOES win.

AND IT'S HILARIOUS.

I personally think that there was no "good guy" in Avatar. It was a conflict between the Preachy Mary-Sue Pretentious Pricks vs. the Redneck/Fratboy/Corporate Pricks.

Yes, I want to see what Bowser would do if Mario died...he would probably commit suicide from not knowing what to do.

I've already written the ending to the Inheritance cycle inside my mind, and it's canon, regardless of what Paolini actually writes. In it, the good bad guy kills the bad good lady and the worse good guy gets killed by the blind good bad guy; and the worse good guy's cousin defects to the good bad guy's side and the bad good elf gets shot and the good bad mindraped guy becomes the president.

Trust me, it's a lot better in context.
I've read Inheritance's three books so far and I'm still lost...lol.

I think a real twist game would be where you play the good guy part, "save the world", have everyone call you a hero, and then find out you actually just screwed the world over.

No... Can't say that I'd want to see the bad guy win...

Most of the stuff I watch, the bad guys are complete dicks...

All I want more is for them to suffer horrible, horrible deaths...

Ummm...yea, all the fucking time. That's why my favorite movies are thrillers like "The Usual Suspects", "Se7en", "Arlington Road", "Fight Club", "Lucky # Slevin", etc.

They're so great because the unexpected actually does happen!! No happy endings for me, please.
I can understand all of them except for Lucky Number Slevin. How does that one fit in with the rest?

Has anyone else wondered what would havce happened if the bad guys won in District 9? I reckon it'd be pretty awesome.

I'm assuming the worse good guy's Eragon. And..Brom is the blind guy. Shit my mind's fuzzy. It's been too long since I've last read Brisingr. Is the bad good elf Ayra?
My version of the ending is Eragon becoming the next Brom, with a fallen Saphira and his brother being the king and what not. Then it literally becomes the Inheritance CYCLE. Then you can start again from the first book and imagine a new "Eragon", with the previous Eragon becoming the new storyteller. (Y) Still, I anticipate Paolini's last book in the cycle.

Actually it would be kind of boring. Wikus would be killed off the spaceship would have never lifted off. And they would still be all exported to D10 just like in the movie.
Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you, but I was thinking more along the lines of South Africa becoming the next military superpower with all the hybrid-ing and splicing and stuff. (It's a joke, I know MNU isn't actually african.)
I was thinking 'what is they won' more in the sense that they got Wikus from the start and harvested him like they planned.
Think of any war ever fought from then onwards.
