Nevada, they have a large number of the IBCMs. Plus they have plenty of underground bunkers to protect themselves from the rest of the missiles.

Canada, we get rid of the noisy protectionist neighbours to the south!
Because Canada is a US state.
Oh, you don't know about it? Yeah, they joined up shortly after Australia. (joking). On topic...Florida has water around most of it so...also, the people here have a lot of guns and grouped up for the most part.

One of the three that actually has it's own Division, California, Texas or Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania because theirs is the Division that proved that National Guard units were better than regular army units.

all im saying is...NYC alone has a police force big enough to destroy most country's army's.....and armed to the teeth....just sayin...and thats not even the whole state...thats just the city...and yes...we do have tanks...and planes and WW2 era battleships docked here....sooo yeahh yes my home state.
lol Those weapons are, I guarantee, not police force equipment. I can especially guarantee that the WWII era ships are used by no American group, but that arsenal sure would come in handy.

I'd say my own sate of California since the Salinas Valley provides a third of the country's (or is its world's?) food. Worked in World War Z and it will work in the hypothetical civil war.

But since I can't choose my own state... Massachusetts because they have experience in this sort of thing.

I guess either Alaska or Texas, because of their positions and their climate.

Ultimatley the British win I guess, they all nuke eachother and then Britain goes 'Oh, well it was ours originally, sorry China and Russia!' and THE EMPIRE IS REBORN (muhahahahahahahaha)

And this thread is fucking over.

You can't really compete with an Air Force base (though I would sure as hell try to, because it would result in an awesome death).

Let's see...

New Mexico, Georgia, Washington, Nevada, and North Dakota have a large quantity of nuclear weapons. Nevada has a decent air force base.

New York has a great quantity of armed citizens, and possession of West Point.

California has the most military bases in the country at 31.

All in all, I'd probably side with Nevada. A combo of air force and nuclear weapons is pretty tough to take.

I'd say Alaska easily. EVERYBODY has a rifle or shotgun up there out of necessity already. They know the crazy ass terrain, plus the rest of the 49 states probably wouldn't fare too well up in the frozen tundra (See Napoleon's Russian campaign)
Yeah, but can they organize? There's a lot of Alaska for relatively few Alaskans, so offensive doctrine would be pretty much nil. Plus, I don't know that you'd have to be the last state standing to "win"...assuming somebody conquers most of the lower 48, they could probably ignore Alaska till they'd built up a sizable invasion force without Alaska being able to respond.

Assuming we're to assume that the federal gov't wouldn't intervene and the states could seize the military hardware in their borders, I'd go for California or Florida. Cali first because of its economy (maybe they could declare martial law and raise some gorram taxes, finally), and because they've got a fair amount of rugged, nonessential territory buffering their essential, coastal territory, and because shutting down & seizing Nevada shouldn't be hard (get rid of Las Vegas, and you've pretty much got the state's government and economy...you'd just have to starve the remaining military installations). Florida because of current military there, plus economy & coastline...plus, the deep-South states just north of them would probably fall into anarchy as soon as the Feds are gone, so they'd be easy pickins. Texas could have a good run, but they'd likely end up in a war with an opportunistic Mexico, which would put them in an awful strategic position.
They wouldn't really have to go on offensive really, they would win it just by fighting off everybody else. PLUS something else that I just realized, they also have a pretty vast untapped oil reserve which I'm sure that they'd drill into given that this proposed civil war breaks out happens.

I'd say either California or NY.
California's huge and New York has an insane police force.

Alaska would win, what they lack in numbers they make up for in being crazy gun-nut survivalists who kill bears with knives for fun O.O

Arizona. Yes it's my home state, but come on, none of you could fight here. Maybe New mexicans or Texans, but if anyone tried to fight here, you'd die of heat stroke. Not to mention we have cactus. That will help out.
