I'd go with Hawaii since they have pretty much the vast majority of the US fleet and could bombard any city along the coasts

Because as far as I know it is the biggest state, also isolated from all other states (like Hawaii just better) also the conditions in Alaska (again as far as I know) are a bit chilly, which would make it harder for any other soldiers to cope.

Alaska is enormous (about 16% of total US land area), but it is also very sparsely populated (~700,000 total; compare to Rhode Island's ~1,000,000) and has little in the way of industry. What you'd more likely see is that it would either suffer multiple invasions at once due to fighting over its resources, or sit on the sidelines to be annexed by the winner.

While the other states are still amassing forces and preparing defenses, New York would have already executed the state's long held war plan for New Jersey and destroyed them as an independant power. The problem here is that the people of Colorado would be too stoned to fight back in the first place.

If the US ever split up, Texas would obviously be the first to become independent, and i think they'd fare well considering the amount of Oil and Weaponry they have. Plus the entire northern part of Texas is one gargantuan desert right? so if anyone attacks from the north, the desert hexes(tiles) provide the least protection.

But to be honest, Hawaii would win. It's true. any state stupid enough to attack them (California) would be blown out of the water by.....you know.... the Pacific Fleet of the US navy! (if we're assuming that the state's keep control of any troops inside it wen war breaks out)

Texas though, they have are the most gun totting, biggest state, and as someone pointed out, they have NASA.

Actually the eastern part of Washington is full of rednecks, there are only a lot of hippies and such on the western part. Also due to the terrain and the fact that we have two mountain ranges, those rednecks and militia jackasses could hold off anyone for a long ass time, no to mention we would ally with Oregon which would give us a significant force.

That or we would just go join Canada.

easily defensible terrain

a coast we can gets supplies

we can probably get Nevada Arizona Oregon rather quickly, plus make a deal with Mexico
