Far Cry 2

The first time through, I hated it utterly. The second time through I figured out that stealth isnt broken, it just works way better at night - so I started playing it mostly at night. You dont get to see all the nice sunny graphics but the game is way more fun as I could get much closer with a silenced pistol and do the dirty.

I guess some spanner will probably come along now and tell me how they aced the whole game with just a tooth pick during the day, but meh whatever.
No. Those African buggers just won't fucking die.
And I really liked my time with FC2. It really let you do your thing. The stealth was solid, but not perfect, and it does work during the day if you keep laying low and have a ghillie suit. The explosives were a nice touch to gunfights, the weapons like the mortar or flamethrower expand the number of approaches to any given situation. Not to mention taking a hang glider to a middle of a depot and then blasting everyone away. (That is if those bastards would ever die)

Me and a friend had a little diamond hunt going on. He gave up in the end, I stopped playing shortly after. Got to somewhere around 150. I'm thinking of playing it again now. :D

I'd have to say [PROTOTYPE]. It's a damn good game, but it gets flak because the developers cared about their game enough to delay it. Sadly they delayed to around the same time that inFamous was coming out, which in itself shouldn't have hurt anything because inFamous is pure shit without even a single kernel of corn to salvage from it.

However, I've underestimated how much people love shooters, no matter how bad (and inFamous is a REALLY BAD shooter), in favor of a game with even the slightest glimmer of originality in it. You would think with great third person shooter titles like Uncharted and Gears of War out there on the market, crap like inFamous would still get called out for being crap, but nope. All shooters get a pass these days, no matter how awful.

So, yeah. [PROTOTYPE] got the shit end of that stick somehow, but fuck the critics. [PROTOTYPE] is an awesome game and if you would rather play another fucking shooter instead, have fun with the upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops. Hey, at least it'll be better than inFamous, not that you'd notice the difference as long as you get to shoot stuff.
I loved inFamous, but thanks for pointing out that I'd like any game with shooting. It's a pleasure not having to read reviews anymore.

Also, of the two, Prototype is the only one with actual shooting. Pretty silly rant.

EDIT: Forgot, I'd have to say Jak X combat racing (something like that). The arena battles were fun, the characters were their usual funny selves, and the racing was okay. The plot wasn't as good as the rest of the series, but it's still better than the first game.

recently i would say alpha protocol. as you said about bionic commando, yeah it wasn't perfect and it had its flaws (some of which are inexplicable in today's gaming market), but none of the flaws were game breaking in my opinion.

in fact, i really enjoyed alpha protocol and would recommend it to anyone provided they knew ahead of time that it does have a few rough edges.

edit (added): and it had "boss fights" which seemed totally out of place for a game of this type.
this is exactly what came to mind.

i love this game. i truly do, i tried playing a few ways, but the stealth way is just so much fun, so i do that every time, and i've replayed the game 4 times in a month so i can tell you i was hooked, i understand it has some bugs, which comes down to system/some of the games fault, but honestly they weren't gamebreaking and the dialogue/story/characters/gameplay/stat system was just alot of fun! it forced you to make on the go decisions that truly affected the game which i thought was a nice change of pace.

honestly, the fun of the game HIGHLY outweighed the bugs imo, hell i only experienced maybe 2-3 in those 4 replays i did. and i did fucking everything i could every time, so i know i didn't miss anything.

i can understand if someone just didn't like the story or its not there type of gameplay..but most people seemed to just spam like a bunch of yahtzee sheep "BARK! BADDDDDDDDD GAME BUGS BAD BARK BADDDDD!" with little to no evidence.

So the voice acting's crap, the story's equally crap and the graphics aren't up to scratch. I find it hard to notice when I'm having more fun than a fox in a chicken coop.
... that was a poor metaphor, but you get the idea.

Wow I forgot Wet. For me it plays as a combination of stranglehold and mirror's edge only I enjoy wet so much more. Yes the base training levels in between is weird, the qte for boss fights is weird (only really frustrating part was the plane part (have to remember every piece to do that part correctly(almost snapped my controller in frustration). I love to keep using acrobatics to slow time to kill everyone and string together good combo's
I absolutely loved Wet.

Devil May Cry 2.

I liked it, although upon reflection I really wouldn't be able to tell you why.

I can definitely understand why fans of the original were dissapointed though.

Kotor two, Neverwinter nights 2 and Fallout: New Vegas. What is with the hating on Obsidian.
Agreed with these. Many people on these forums really seem to dislike and even hate Obsidian, hell, Shamus even wrote an article on it a few days back on his apparent dislike of the company. But me?

I'll take buggy and flawed but unique over bland and generic but super smooth anyday, and in that respect Obsidian delivers every time.

I didn't even realize that game was considered 'bad' by anyone, loved the game myself. The combat was entertaining as hell, the visuals gorgeous for their time, and the story while cheese-tastic certainly kept me entertained. It was a solid all-round game!

Anyway, as for my own contribution: Dawn of War 2.

It sold well and was generally well received, but there's a very vocal group even in these forums that decry DoW2 as the worst gaming atrocity since Daikatana. Personally I actually much prefer DoW2 over 1. Yeah, I went there! DoW1 was just a generic rts with a Warhammer theme and some cool combat animations, it's only with the sequel that Relic really defined their own more unique place in the rts genre. Plus base building is over-rated, it's just an artificial means by which to try and limit the rate of advancement for a player. So when DoW2 did away with that mechanic entirely in favor of a tighter focus on squad combat and micromanagement, I cheered!

Sure, some rts do base building well: Age of Empires 2 for example. But in the case of a game like Dawn of War, I say the games better without. Plus I also love the concept of hero classes in multiplayer and how specific hero and abilities can change the tide of combat. Very little more satisfying than watching your level 10 Warboss charge into an enemy army and start tearing them to bits in a flurry of violence and carnage! Add to that the absolutely brilliant sound design and fantastic visuals, and you've got one helluva solid experience.

I keep hearing people complain about it but I don't see why. Sure there are some parts that could be better but overall I think it's a good game.
And all I hear is people praising it... it's a weird world we live in.

The word everybody is not particularly applicable here, but the massive hatred for MW2 on here has always left me perplexed and shocked.

And, yes, I've played the PC version.

Also, the next gen Double Agent. Haven't experienced a single bug.
Its cause its a giant and people hated it basically for being so popular yet not their favorite game, so they felt it was unjustified. Funnily enough I enjoyed the game and yet hated it because it was so popular. (Even more so because of the majority of the online community)

For me... I guess FF8, what's the deal? Played the game probably 7 times through now and I still love it. Granted when I originally played it without understanding the Junctioning system (one of my first games and understood no english at the time) I was running around wondering why I'd level up so much without actually getting significantly stronger.

FF VIII, X-2, XII, & XIII
Alpha Protocol

I understand the complains against them, but I find these games to all be really fun.

Also, inFAMOUS was a great game. I've never played PROTOTYPE (although it does look fun), but inFAMOUS gave me a real good time and I can't wait for the sequel.

Modern Warfare 2. I personally like Modern Warfare 1 better, but despite its bad points (confusing story, horribly unrealistic ADS with sight upgrades like ACOG) 2 still has plenty of good points (like, say, Spec Ops, and better MP maps)

InFamous is my number 1 choice
Had an awful lot of people saying "get Prototype instead", so I did...Prototype was pure shite. Not the shite with little nuts of fun and sweetcorns of greatness...Just shite through and through

InFamous is better all around. Gameplay is better, side missions have a point, visuals are better, isnt as emo as Prototype and is just generally great

Cant wait till number 2
Coles powers are my most wanted super-powers :)
dont be such a troll how do you think YOU would react if i said the opposite about inFamous?

for me, Prototype was an underappreciated gem that just needed some small gameplay and story elements tweaked and it would have been the perfect superhero/villian sandbox game. but unfortunately some REALLY frustrating things like cheap enemies and a story that didnt tie in well with the gameplay were noticeable flaws.

im disappointed the game wont be getting a sequel... which is why i need to make one myself (deal with it)
Its called having an opinion mate
And since its my opinion, it means Im not wrong. Just as you aren't wrong with your Prototype opinion
Thats the beauty of opinions

So as far as the troll remark goes, I wasn't trolling, I was just making MY OPINION known :)
To be fair to him though, you said that InFamous was better all round, the key words missing in your post was I think.

EDIT: Plus you stated that Prototype was pure shite, all you had to say was you thought it was shit, surely you didn't expect to get no reaction whatsoever from slagging off a game, and claiming that another one was so much better.

OT: I really liked borderlands. Sure playing on your own got boring and repetitive, but get two friends to come and play with you and I had an absolute laugh, I got it last week and have already logged a little over 30 hours on it! Thank you Factual Squirrel and Hazabaza1 =)

I have to second the feelings on Obsidian. Both KOTOR 2 and New Vegas were great sequels to their predecessors (even if both are extremely buggy, they are just as good overall, if not better).

Just to give you a little hope, I'm a hardcore Devil May Cry fanboy and consider that game the worst in the series by far. That said, it isn't particularly bad. I understand why some people like it. I shall not berate thee on such a trivial matter.

-Snip-
I thrashed that game. Beat both disks (Dante and Lucia) on Dante Must Die and loved it. I never have understood all of the hate on the game. It was great, just not as great and groundbreaking as the 1st. I think that the 4th was actually worse. It was still good, just worse. Unfortunately I never got the opportunity to play the 3rd, as my PS2 died. Bloody dead motor, I hate you for depriving me of this game...

FFVIII, IX, X and X-2 point of fact JRPG's in general, KotOR 2,
Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, the Way of the Samurai series, visual novels in general and so many others.

Criticisms usually come in three flavours:
Valid complaints that I can understand would make sombody dislike and not want to play it even though I do(a game that is insufferably hard, complicated or buggy for example),
Valid complaints that frankly should in no way be deal breakers on their own though can be en masse(the menu is cluttered and hard to navigate, there are too many load screens, too hard, too easy etc),
Frankly stupid complaints that are often exagerated, subjective or outright fabrications useually whined about for hours by people that sometimes havn't even played the game(The graphics/art style's crap, it's turn based, the main character's emo, I don't like the music, the MC is voiced by Jack Black, It's a JRPG, it's not an FPS, its not realistic, the voice acting's terrible[even when it isn't], there's no voice acting, there's too much story, there's not enough story, I had to thik about that puzzle for more than two minuites!, I don't like the box art, the MC's female, it's gay, It's on the[insert plarform here] and so many more I could be here for days).

Two Worlds. Sure the acting and animating was absolute shit, but I found that the game was fun, if only for an afternoon or two. I wouldn't say it's over Mediocre, but imo it's not terrible like everyone else says.
Personally, I LOVED Two Worlds. I think it's because I went into it with no expectations; a lot of people wanted to hate it because of the arrogance of the developer. I only heard about that after I'd finished the game. If you don't take it seriously, it was a hilarious game to play, and lots of fun. I actually found it more fun to explore in that game than I did in Oblivion. The game world felt 'bigger' and had more variety, I think.

Really. Nobody I ask even knows what it is. And whenever they, do, they're never positive. But it's still in my top 10 list.

Timeshift, most people I know called it boring, or that the time slow mechanic was overused. I didn't think it was boring, and even though bullet time is overused, Timeshift did a great job using it so it wasn't boring.

I was really thinking about getting Alpha Protocol, but I got really really turned off by the worse of it's rough edges. It sounds like a really cool game concept though, so I'm hoping that a spiritual successor will come along, hopefully out of the blue. Though, maybe the new Deus Ex game will act as such.
