Explain to me how the whiners say Team Fortress 2 is destroyed.

Of course some people would disagree with that. All the methods of getting cheap kills ruin the game for some people, and the more new items we get, the more ways for cheap kills there are. The Huntsman is undeniably cheap and random, the entire Demoman class will always be hotly debated and the insane amount of spam that sadly leads to way too much success is just a fact for TF2.
Define cheap kills? My thought of cheap kills is one that cannot be countered with relative ease. The 2 you mentioned can, its a breeze to side steam a huntsman arrow, and any pyro with half a brain will airblast the demo spam back at them. I don't understand how any of the kills in the game are cheap?

because you can now buy items I like it I would never buy items but the idea is good and it works
PS I like the quantity of items it alows you to customize your weapons to suit your play stile while reaming in the game balance

They pretty much doubled the content in one update. I love where it is going and just the fact that people ARE going to buy things lets me believe that they will be around longer. Development costs money. They have been releasing free content for three years.

It's not. It's just not vanilla anymore. People say that Valve ruined TF2 with every single update and having a bunch of lazy people with extra money buying some hats that don't do anything or weapons (that you can still find in drops. I found a GRU on a random drop within an hour) that have advantages and disadvantages just like every other weapon. In fact, trading is one of the best things to happen to TF2.

Erm, I'm not much for TF2 but how is that different from buying gold with real money in MMO games? Think that's a subject most gamers are usually universally against. This just seems like Valve cutting out the middleman and taking the money for themselves, which yeah, doesn't really make them look like good guys.

I mean hell, people are pissed at Blizzard for selling pets, mounts and similar bullshit in WoW and those are just vanity items, the stuff in TF2 actually gives you an upper hand in the game and cuts out the need to "earn" those items through playing the game, as originally (and for the past 3 years) intended.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
because we tend to view valve as the idealized company, not greedy and willing to give us stuff to prove it, so when they show that money matters to them also, we tend to over react

It's probably the same people who whined about San Andreas having too much to do.
We should be so lucky as to have a few games every generation with that much content.

My comp broke about 2 weeks before the update, so I haven't had the chance to play for a while. One thing that concerns me is that now items give a bonus for using an entire set. What if I like one weapon, not another and prefer a different hat? At least the bonuses seem negligible from what I read, but still, until I play, there's gonna be this doubt in my mind...
yet another reason I want my computer repaired faster...

Edit: As for the Mann-conomy part, I say "it's not interfering with actual gameplay." It makes getting items EASIER, that's all. For God's sake, I wish other companies would follow Valve's example on this.

Because every game I join (if I can now since they seem to be completely full recently) I get text spam of "TRADING SCOUT HAT FOR SPY FEZ!!!" a bajillion times and loads of people doing nothing but standing still writing that, not even fighting.

Its not ruined. At all. All items you can buy you can also find normally, and someone else having them doesn't mean shit.

Because the hat they grinded(or idled) for months to get can now be purchased for a mere $5-$10. Their cool status symbol is no longer exclusive to just them. You gotta know how that community thinks.
Also because Valve changed things. Change bad. Change very bad. Community want different things, just don't change things.

I believe the perceived problem is that you can now pay to get items that give you an edge in-game. Of course, said edges are still no match for actual skill, so it's really no big deal.

Why is it destroyed? Because the game has fundamentally changed. The Old TF2 does not exist. That doesn't mean that such change is bad - that is for the individual to determine.

While I by no means think that the game is ruined or any some such, I do find myself wishing for a simpler time when there were no hats and other crap floating around.

As long as there were only decorative stuff I didn't mind much, other than lamenting a bit that they tended to screw with the artistic direction and make the game silly (for a given value of silly.).

However, I think that the items that changes stats are too much, and has potential to screw up balance and take away from the focus of the game. Furthering on that line of thought I do notice that a lot of people tend to be spending time crafting when on my regular servers. That tends to annoy me.

I guess I just feel that the more superfluous crap that gets added to the game the more I lose that "thing", whatever it was, that endeared the game to me.

That brings me to a question: is it possible to set up a server without all the extra crap? A vanilla server, so to speak. That would be sweet and would allow me to catch a basic game once in a while when I don't feel like seeing afros and chocolate bars for a bit.

If not, I'll keep playing the game anyways and be happy that I play on awesome servers where people don't obsess over extra stuff.

Entirely different games, though.

WoW, much of the game is the journey to 80 and the repeated dungeon-trawling (I won't say grinding) to get loot. Wait, is Cataclysm out already? I lost all interest when I quit...anyway, you get my point. Gear, whether ornamental or otherwise, has intrinsic worth, and time investment is SUPPOSED to be the primary requirement for obtaining it.

TF2 is a shooter, and as such is primarily supposed to be about skill. None of the weapons are supposed to be upgrades, although some effectively *are*. However, you don't feel like you've 'earned' your shiny new gear, it just drops, or doesn't. If you really want an item, you are forced to make do, but most of the time you'll get every item quickly because the system is weighted to drop new stuff. The new way is an improvement, because it's back to the basics of shooter games, and if a weapon means that much to you you can buy it and give a little to a community member in the process (sometimes). If it'd been planned this way from the start VALVe would be dickheads, but I strongly doubt that.

That said, I don't give a shit about Blizzard extorting their customers for money - if they're willing to pay, it's their business. I can't mock the customers, either, as I have in the past paid for things I (gasp) didn't strictly need but thought were pretty cool.
