Explain to me how the whiners say Team Fortress 2 is destroyed.

I love how every one thinks that the unlockable weapons are an upgrade. They are not. Each weapon has pros and cons. They are meant to promote a different playing style, not an edge. Everybody has different kind of load out on their class depending on their play style. It still comes down to skill, they are just introducing more kinds of skill.

In fact, the only weapon I can think of that is a total upgrade is the equalizer, and I am not even certain it is a complete upgrade.
EDIT: The equalizer isn't even a complete upgrade. It deals less damage than the shovel unless you have about half your health gone.

It's turning more and more into a MMORPG, random loot drops, and unlocking stuff...

Its not ruined. At all. All items you can buy you can also find normally, and someone else having them doesn't mean shit.

Because the hat they grinded(or idled) for months to get can now be purchased for a mere $5-$10. Their cool status symbol is no longer exclusive to just them. You gotta know how that community thinks.
Also because Valve changed things. Change bad. Change very bad. Community want different things, just don't change things.
Change=evil to the fearful whiner.

*sigh*

a) "Valve have turned to the dark side by making us pay for stuff we were previously getting for free."
- Invalidated by the fact that you can still get items through gameplay and crafting. And now trading.

b) "People who pay money get an unfair advantage over those who don't."
- Actually somewhat valid. However, the various items are intended as alternatives, not upgrades.

c) "[insert assorted balance issues here]"
- Not sure about this one. Time will tell.

I think they're retarded if they were playing the game to get a new hat instead of playing the game for fun. If they didn't enjoy the grind leading up to getting their new item then WTF were they doing playing it? If they did enjoy the grind then the game's doing what it should and they shouldn't be complaining over a few items of clothing they got for free.

I also think anyone who pays what, $0.99? for a freaking hat is even more retarded. Bloody hell is there something wrong with players wanting to personalise their avatar? What's wrong with FREE customisation? Imagine if Saints Row 2 had charged 99cents for every item in the game.

Fuck it, I'll stick with default thank you very much.

EDIT: Next they'll be charging to unlock the bloody classes...

To be honest I said my farewells to it the moment it started including pickups, hats and all that other nonsense.

Whats so wrong wit having a class-based Fps...WITHOUT the WOW styled crafting, pickups, leveling and all that nonsense....I want the original Tf2 back.

Because every game I join (if I can now since they seem to be completely full recently) I get text spam of "TRADING SCOUT HAT FOR SPY FEZ!!!" a bajillion times and loads of people doing nothing but standing still writing that, not even fighting.
THIS.
One hundred times THIS.
God it's turned into a Diablo II gen chat.
Or standing there crafting.
Gameplay is perfect still, though.

Because skill-kills are for scrubs, and now there can be more skill-kills.

Because luck-kills are hax, and now there can be more luck-kills.

Because Sniper is OP in 2fortress 2.

Because now you need to spend $20 for the best chance of competing in 6v6 nocrit tournaments.

The people who spend way too much effort already getting items are happier than the former 4, and the party groups never complain about anything.

The Team Fortress 2 community has many factions. This is the first update that seems to have managed to piss off 67% of them.

Personally, I'm opposed to freemium on general principle. I quit TF2 because of this, and I won't look back.

Don't go to the offical forums.

The level of stupidity over there is just astounding. Them lot will complain about anything.

I don't believe that the new update has killed TF2 but I still think the ability to buy set hats that actually give gameplay bonuses is a bit unfair to those who don't want to shell out.

also, i think 4-5 classes can now heal themselves so no one will play medic
Only the Soldier can do that with his new rocket launcher, and the Scout with his Mad Milk, but that is a ridiculously specific way to heal. Every other class only gets extra health.

The problem with that argument is that most comp leagues will just ban the Polycount hats and be done with it. Even then, the buff for having the complete set is fairly insignificant.

Well I hope not but I would have said the same about items of clothing as well a few years ago...

I don't think TF2 is destroyed, but selling stat changing weapons in the store is generally never a good idea, and I would have hoped that valve had realised that, regardless of the fact that they can be obtained through grinding eventually.

I also am not sure that adding so many new weapons was ultimately a good idea. I understand TF2 was never the most serious game, but they've destroyed a lot of the elegance of their own design. It used to be, you see a demoman silhouette and you'd know what you were up against. Now you can't tell whether to expect explosives or to be charged at superscout speeds by a guy with a sword. Like I said, the game certainly isn't destroyed, but it's a LOT more chaotic than it used to be and that's not where my tastes lie.
*Recalls being hit in the head by a bottle* You know. If he was right around the corner you should probably expect meele! I know from experience..

I was a hugely avid fan of Team Fortress Classic, and when I got TF2 in the orange box I was VERY pleased... For the less-than-an-hour I played of it. Since then I've played a little more, maybe twenty hours, but it just never grabbed me. Sure the movies are hilarious and everything, but I don't know what I was expecting that wasn't fullfilled, and this new update doesn't really seem to me to change anything significant about what made the game fun (or in my case not-fun). I think anything involving money is enough to make a gamer go Wah these days... Feeling so entitled is probably what gets companies so self-righteous in their money-spinning efforts.
