Explain to me how the whiners say Team Fortress 2 is destroyed.

They pretty much doubled the content in one update. I love where it is going and just the fact that people ARE going to buy things lets me believe that they will be around longer. Development costs money. They have been releasing free content for three years.
They have this thing called Steam, it makes them way more money then TF2 does. How did you think they could afford all of that free content?

No. It's "dying" because you can buy advantage altering items using cash. I loved the game back when everything was about the game itself. You play a lot and the items you get were a testament to that. You were a veteran. Now, you just shell out a few bucks and you can get everything thousands of players worked their asses of an entire year to get in just under a minute.

I think the updates can help make the game evolve in interesting ways. I just wish all these updates would come to the xbox360 version because that's what's broken.

Sounds to me like your major issue is that people who don't play this game 24/7, can now bypass the drop system which makes your awesome-sauce items not quite so awesome.
Well, yeah. That's the gist of it really. They're basically devaluing a players achievements and of course I'm going to have a problem with that. I believe that those who work harder deserve their rewards.

Oh yeah, I've been hearing a lot of that, especially people acting as if people will give extra for vintage gear. Right now 90% of the stuff people have must be vintage, no one cares. One server I joined sounded like the shopping channel, with a guy going on about how he was willing to trade the dueling minigame for a badass hat and how he would throw some extra items in on the deal.

They have waaaaaaaaaaay too many hats and alternative weapons. Before it used to be a privilege to receive a hat and their would be only one alternative weapon for each class. Now, there are so many hats (which sometimes aren't even specific to each class), there is now not really anything truly identifiable for each class. Don't get me wrong, I love Team Fortress 2, just not for their choice of hats.

And PAYING for the upgrades?! What a way to divide the community!

TF2 is work? Dude, if the game you're playing feels like work, then you should probably not be playing it.
It was an expression. A person spent more time playing the game and so he got better rewards. It shows that you've got some experience playing the game. It's a trophy. You competed and that's your reward.

And I don't see how a hat collection makes you a more valuable player.
It doesn't. I said that it devalues the achievement.

Good for you that you put up with the asinine drop system to get a sweet collection of hats.
I didn't actually. I've got one hat in my collection.

Because giving money to the developers of a game you love and cherish and has been fed with free DLC for the past 3 years is shunned.
And this makes Valve as greedy as EA?
Actually, it kind of does. EA tried to release DLC for Battlefield: Bad Company early after the release on the 360 and (I think) PS3 that would supply whoever bought it with new weapons which many feared would lead to balance problems, so there was a massive boycott lead by the guys at Sarcastic Gamer which was actually successful and the weapon DLC was never released.

It's ironic that many PC gamers criticize people for paying money for their online service, but they either bend over for something like this or absolutely fail at bringing about any change. Case in point; MW2 boycott.

Anyway, be glad that it's only content that you can get through play anyway. There is nothing from stopping Valve charging you for the double range flamethrower and seeker rockets and from history it seems like they might get away with it.

They did give us vintage items.

Well I sure hope it's a good hat. I mean considering how much you've bitched about it being this great achievement. It would be sad to think you might have spent all that time and energy crying over a hatless sniper or camera beard.
You're right. I puffed and huffed and cried for achievements to remain just that, achievements. That's my opinion and if you don't share it then good for you.
