I would argue that in most cases, a pirated game is not a lost sale.
This.
The vast majority of people who pirate movies/music/games never intended to buy it. ever.
I'm a little bit like that with music. A lot of music I like isn't the kind of stuff you find on Spotify and whatnot, so I'm not buying an album
before I've heard all of it. So I'll pirate it. The stuff that I like best will get bought, the rest will be deleted or kept for the simple fact that I might want to listen to it occasionally. But I never intended nor will I ever intend to buy
all the music I've got from torrents, only the stuff I know I'll listen to more than once or twice. I really don't have the money to be buying every bit of music I ever listen to.
I would never pirate games though, simply because it's not a case of download, drag, drop into iTunes like music is, and there's far more sophisticated ways of detracting from a game that's been pirated... if I can't afford a game, I just don't bother with it until I can, or I try and find it second hand.
