I'm introverted, I mean, forums pose a social problem for me right now, never mind something that will reveal every aspect of my life to anyone who cares to look. Besides, I know two people who have facebook. That, and I ended up deleting my twitter account because I kept forgetting about it. There's no point, really.

Something about the clash between the general advise of not putting all your personal information online and Facebook trying to suck it all out of you. Also it doesn?t appeal to me as a form of communication.

Because I have absolutely no desire to broadcast my entire life to the internet or to greedy advertisers who no doubt get information from places like Facebook.

Secondly I don't like the argument it lets you get in touch with old friends or people you used to know. You know what, maybe I don't want to get in touch with people I used to know. You know maybe if they were such great people they would still be my friends?

Lastly Facebook can get you into a lot of trouble. Hey you said you were sick that day, well we got photos from one of your friends with you partying that night, sure you were sick for work? Thats one of the annoying things about facebook, even if you don't have it your photo can still appear on it. Seriously I wish the thing was never created at all.
Exactly this. I don't know if I could resume the whole thing any better. But the second paragraph is the reason I always give first when asked why I don't have a Facebook account: don't want to get in touch with people I haven't seen in years, and the people who ask me about the Facebook account, well... I see them everyday, so what's the point?

I don't use facebook because:

- Social-networking is a cancer on the internet, filled with the babblings of people I wouldn't piss on if they were burning to death.
- I'm a very private individual and I like keeping it that way. I do my best to ensure my real identity has almost zero data footprint on the net.
- I really can't be arsed. There are dozens of other ways people can get in contact with me if they really need to, ones that require less effort on my behalf and give me more control over unwanted communication.
- people seem really caught up about pictures and I have a tendency to punch people trying to photograph me.

I tell them I'm an escaped convict living under an assumed name and don't want to give the authorities hints on where to find me. Shuts them right the fuck up.

Because it regularly violates it's privacy policies.
That's my reason for staying the hell away from it.
If memory serves, the founder and owner of Facebook was quoted for saying, "People who trust me are dumb f*cks." Yeah, I don't want to be in that kind of social network.

I say let the masses have it and screw themselves over. Nowadays every respectable company employs folks whose job it is to do background checks on new applicants, and when they stumble upon drunken mishaps, inflammatory comments and the like on Facebook (and yes, they can see it all, even stuff you deleted years ago), they'll torch your ass faster than you can say "privacy policy".

I have 50 friends on facebook I'm in constant contact with and I love it.

From what I've read so far, people do't seem to have an issue with Facebook per say, but rather a lack of friends or good friends to make it worth it. Nothing wrong with the site itself, just the people and their habits on it.

Except for Sonicron and Sierra, that is a legitimate reason to not like FACEBOOK itself, but I don't really have anything to hide, or anyone to hide from (Usually...) so I don't particuarlarlarlarlarly mind who sees my stuff.

I've met a lot of friends of friends on Facebook as well, who are now some of MY best friends. I now know a guy in Townsville (3 hour flight away) who I simply adore because he's a hardcore steampunk enthusiast like i am, who I met through a friend on Facebook. In all for me, the upsides like that, finding rare awesome people that's hard to find randomly, outweighs the issues.

Thanks, I guess. Thing is, I don't particularly mind right now who sees or hears me doing whatever, and I have precious little to hide. But that's now, and being a 'big picture' kind of guy, I don't want something careless from now to come back and bite me in the arse tomorrow.
And that's what, in my eyes, outweighs the potential pros of Facebook. Always.

Don't tell me what thread I can respond to.

I use facebook for streams of different music-related news, sports news, events can be organized a lot more easily (you don't have to call to dozen people to know who's going), to know who's got a baby kid or has got married.

It's a great site to read that Juelz Santana got arrested and Flyers just made it 3-0.

Invading privacy? Don't give it rights. Don't enter them. Games/apps bothering? Block them.

This is also one of those things that some people refuse to join because it's gotten too popular.

I hate people. I hate attention whoring. Also, my mom once told me to join facebook 'cause I needed to "socialize more". That alone is reason enough to NEVER EVER join! God, the ignorance.

I only just recently started using it.

Not because I want to use Facebook, but because so many people I know ONLY use facebook.
And that's why. I use it to keep in touch with them, and them only. All notifications are turned off, and anyone who tries to friend me gets to sit in pending purgatory until the end of days.

Because I have no use for the bloody thing. I call or use IM programs if I wanna talk with mates or go out. Also all the advertisements and invites people send out can drive me insane; when I had it before I actually ended up screaming "Facebook sucks shit through a crazy straw" and it freaked my mates.
