Of the games I've bought this year(like 40 or more >.<) Final Fantasy XIII was the only major disapointment. Dante's Inferno comes in on a close second.

Controversy incoming...

Red Dead Redemption. Was really pumped to get this game. Put it in the started playing it and quickly came to realise that it's nothing more than a series of rather boring minigames all of which had purpose other than grinding numbers to unlock reasons for playing the same minigames over again. World 2 was the same as world 1 but with a wallpaper change and world 3... well I never played world 3 after unlocking it because I fell into a coma. RDR now stand proudly on my shelf alongside Farcry 2 as a game that is just too repetative to finish.

Don't you mean fail-out: new vegas of the year?
I'll be here all week.
Thing is, it would be bloody great if it weren't for all the fucking BUGS!

Final Fantasy XIII.

I don't even know where to begin. Suffice to say, I'm glad I didn't pay any money for it.

It was the first Final Fantasy I ever played and its quality ensured that it would also be the last.

I don't think I've played any properly bad or disappointing games this year. Bioshock 2 was too short but good for what it was and I haven't really been able to play Fallout: New Vegas 'cos I bought the PC version on account of it being cheaper, before realising that my PC is a heap and struggles to play it.

I guess I'd have to consider Final Fantasy 13. I didn't dislike it - in fact, I actually quite enjoyed what little you can really consider as 'playing' - it's just that I put 25 hours into it and then stopped playing. That was back in May and I've felt absolutely no motivation to pick it up again since then. Even so, that's possibly more down to my own laziness and apathy rather than the game.

Plants vs Zombies. So incredibly boooooooooooring.

Ok technically not a 2010 release but still.

Command and Conquer 4. I've played the series ever since the original, and I will never forgive EA for what they did to my most beloved franchise.

Honorable Mention goes to Supreme Commander 2 for making a sequel LESS than the original.

for me: Kane & Lynch 2
I did like the first one, brain dead ai left aside, but the second one almost made me puke, since it gave me the worst case of motion sickness I have experienced in roughly 20 years.

what was so bad about the last mission? I kind of enjoyed it, despite being a vanguard an therefore somewhat useless against the final boss.

I don't really buy new games. Don't believe in spending $60 of my hard earned cash on one game when I can buy 3 last gen console games for the same price. The only "new" games I bought this year were ME2 and SC2. I haven't played ME2 yet, and SC2 is the bomb diggity, so there you go.

I'd say Alan Wake, Metro 2033 and Dantes Inferno were my biggest disappointments. The first two started off great with a real sense of dread and Metros "ghosts" made me so intrigued and then towards the end it just died....Alan Wake was quite similar, it started out great, the atmosphere was brutal but then it just died away when every four metres you walked "rawr rawr I'm covered in smoky shit, I hate you"; yeah the enemies (confusingly). I really couldn't be arsed listening to Alan or his fucked up wife either.

Dantes Inferno could have been so much better but it was so linear and they never really explored hell the way I thought they could have. Half way through everything became the same, fighting, collecting things, Dantes doll got her tits out, etc. And don't get me started on the last part of the game, I mean whoever thought they could get away with ten similar fight rooms are dicks.

GTA 4 : Episodes from Liberty City by far. It was to bland, it wasn`t funny at all and that whole phone menu interaction thing was crap. Also the graphics look old and the driving feels wrong somehow.

Biggest has to be the game that opened and closed a few months later.. APB

Game was a complete failure on all levels

Second runner up is clearly Final Fantasy 14.. another MMO early release and if they didnt have big money backing them they would have been closed down within the first 2 months too. So because of big money this game lives on and has a chance to maybe be a decent game one day.

I completed it siding with Caesar's Legion and the last mission for them just felt meh to me, Maybe it's just me : / . I haven't completed siding with any of the other factions yet so maybe I'll find their last missions better. but don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the game.

If Supreme Commander 2 came out this year, then yes, I'll second that one. I didn't play too many new games this year since I only had a laptop, but that one was such a waste. Almost every reason to play SupCom instead of every other RTS was more or less thrown out of the window. So maybe the potential market is bigger, but it won't matter so much since they now have 2 dozen competitors.

Oh, and honourable mention to Civ 5. I enjoyed playing it, but I really had to work through bugs, pollishing problems, poor performance (on that laptop anyway), and crap AI. Not bad, but certainly dissapointing.

I would say Final Fantasy XIII is the biggest disappointment of the year, but unfortunately it doesn't qualify as it is a Final Fantasy game. Not that there was anything wrong with Final Fantasy, at least until it started graphic whoring itself to the point of no return. At least, until they make a game featuring Deus Ex's level design and level-up system mixed with God of War's combat and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time's platforming and sprinkled 'Final Fantasy' onto the result.

With that in mind, I nominate Metroid: Other M as the biggest disappointment of the year. If the terrible gameplay wasn't bad enough, the revolving narrative and sickening relationship between Adam and Samus would seal the deal.
