Fallout 3's Atmosphere...explain why it needs changing, exactly?

I have heard many complain that Fallout 3 is really drab and down for a game set 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse, and needs more trees and the fact that it doesn't is unrealistic.

every time I hear this, I think of two things.

First: Does this mean they don't like the atmosphere, or just think it is "unrealistic"?
Second: After 200 years, a pool of Irradiated water is still irradiated. Some dirt is still irradiated. Plants simply couldn't grow untill the water is pure again. So it is a false claim that having no plant life at this time would be unrealistic.

What are people's opinions on this? Are you like me, slapping my head whenever someone says it, or do you vouch for the "Greener World" mod and want more plant life? More importantly, on both sides of the argument, why do you stand for this side?

In my opinion, I think that not only is the atmosphere accurate and, in spite of a lot of people's thoughts, realistic, but that it is the best idea they had. If they had made it even slightly green I believe it would have ruined the post-apocalyptic feel, and it wouldn't be nearly as awesome as Fallout 3 stands today. I have tried the Greener World mod, and even just the grass mod, and I just prefer old-beat-up wastes.

considering it ends with aliens coming to an irraidiated wasteland in the DlC, why are people complaining about realism or lack thereof about the plant life?

Fallout 3, to me, is one of the few games where a drab colour scheme is completely justified. Anyone claiming that the lack of plant life 200 years on is unrealistic clearly don't understand just how catastrophic a nuclear war would actually be. Hell, from what I understand its pretty amazing stuff that we can actually see the sun in Fallout 3, let alone have some plantlife.

I think the whole 'gritty-drag' pallette has been played out by other games like GTA4, Gears of War, and Killzone 2. So when a game that actually calls for it like Fallout 3, its like Bethesda came late to the party. I personally like it and think it's very fitting. Besides how are you going to explain that FO 1 and 2 were barren wastelands and the third was full of life and chirping birdies?

I am 15 and so never ever played or saw footage (none on youtube I can find) of the other two.

Explained.

LOL

Man I'm a retard.

I get what you're saying now.

I think the atmosphere was great, but could use some slight tweaks.

Download Fellout if you have it for PC. It makes the day's a bit brighter and the nights a bit darker.

... Ok, it makes the nights pitch black. It's actually scary to walk around at night, like it should be in a world like that.

It's accurate, appearance wise, to the atmosphere of the first two games, which is the most important thing.

I think it fits perfectly for a game like Fallout. All the people who need a few trees and bright colours to hold their attention should go play something not set in the aftermath of a nuclear war.

I already find it scary enough turning around to see that two mirelurk hunters have sneaked up on me in the middle of the day. Let alone at night. I missed the importance of the perception skill...sigh.

It's not supposed to be "accurate" or "realistic".

People need to understand this.

People are annoying. Some people are never happy...but for Fallout it seems we got a absolutely amazing game (IMO), and people STILL had something bad, irrelevant and utterly retarded to say about it.

Will it never end!?

Haha fair enough. Well if you are using a PC you should be able to pick them up for cheap and they both run fine on even a low cost rig. I believe you can grab them on Steam or who knows, maybe a game trade-in store? Granted they're not as 'user friendly' as fallout three but they're still fantastic games.

There is nothing wrong with it's environment but if I were to recommend some kind of change I would just add some more colors but it really doesn't matter because Fallout was amazing.

If they had a bunch of trees and green plant life, people would complain just as much that the nuclear radiation didnt wipe them out. No matter what they did, people would be unsatisfied with it. Someones not gonna like it, so just aim for the majority of players. I personally enjoy the Fallout atmosphere. Props to Bethesda, once again.

The story never made sense.

Some buildings decay and collapse 50 years with no use.

Yet the majority of these buildings (in DC mainly( survived a nuclear war, nuclear fallout, years of lacking maintenance, and stood for 200 years, and are STILL standing?

it makes no sense at all.
