The Polar Express was pretty sweet, not as good as Lord of the Rings but I mean its still a good movie. Never read the book tho

Jurassic Park.
Oddly yes. I don't think the adaptation was brilliant but they're both great in their own ways.

And seriously people:

FIGHT CLUB

Don't make me use bold & caps together ever again.
Fight club is one of my favourite films of all time. Haven't read the book. What I have been told though is that as a medium, film worked a lot better for fight club as it was a very visual experience.

I should probably go & get the book then watch the film again. That way I could compare the two

Only saw the movie on this one... I'm weary of King nowadays. You just never know when an almost interesting plot line will turn into an alien invasion or a giant spider. That and I haven't the time for 900 pages of pure exposition.

I found it worked brilliantly as a book even though I knew the twist at the end. Even if you're one of the many Escapists I've noted who somehow don't have the patience for novels (it's a short one though) make damn certain to read chapter 6. It's eight pages and it was originally a short story that the whole rest of the book/film expanded from.

Has anyone else seen the silent film version of "Call of Cthulhu?"

It goes without saying that the story is divine, but I found the silent film (made just recently) brought the visual atmosphere of the story to life while focusing exclusively on the root themes of insignificance and terror.

Both story and film were terrific.

And...

I'm laughing because Twilight will not be on this thread.
This should be bigger with strippers and searchlights around the edges for truth.

Twilight.

Well the movie was crap-mediocre but the books of the series are fantastic, so does that count?

No i'm not a horney schoolgirl who went to the movies to see shirtless guys and I am actually a semi-competent reader who read the books and enjoyed them.

Ahh.. probably a good thing that The Green Mile is the only King book I've read then, think I've started a few others but never really got into them.

Well, the thread is titled "Fantastic Books that were made into Fantastic Films"; I'm not rocket scientist, but I'd say 'NO'.

I would nominate 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'/'Blade Runner'. The nice thing is that Scott didn't try to cram the whole book into the film - Mercerism and all the philosophical aspects surrounding it were left out, and he focussed on creating the bleak dystopian atmosphere.

Ah...sweet, sweet, dystopia...

30 posts before a "Princess Bride" reference!? Seriously, I think people fail to realize this movie is based on a book. Both are completely awesome in their own way.

I'm going to say One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; the book was told from Chief's perspective, unlike the film, but it had the same emotional impact, even though it was rather surreal at times.

Lord of the Rings

Amazing! really the only trilogy where every movie is pure gold.
