Just finished watching them all. Wow. Farscape has everything...drama, action, geekiness, romance complexity..,..

Quite honestly, I don't think it got enough props when it aired. Star Trek had nothing on farscape.

Ok, soo, that was a strong opinion, but what does everyone think? What IS the best sci fi series out there? I'm sure there's plenty I've not seen...

Farscape is good because not only does it try to be different, but it does different well. That said... there is a lot of absolute crap in there as well. A lot of the mind-frell episodes go absolutely nowhere, the music is pretty bad (The main theme is great though), and the first season is really lackluster. I still love the show, but it does have problems.

Peacekeeper Wars was awesome though.

It's definitely my favourite sci-fi series. It does start a little slow, though. The first season has good episodes, but where the series really picks up is around the end of season one when Scorpius is introduced. After that it's really good.

It isn't perfect, but there hasn't been any other sci-fi series as interesting and unique as Farscape, and to me, that's what's most important.

Eh, there's some good stuff in Farscape, but lots of rubbish as well, and more rubbish than good, IMHO.

The first series didn't really know what it was doing. It settled down and found it's direction later on, but that direction was so cliched and boring...ancient secrets, evil military blah, even worse alien empire, blah blah.

The last season, and the Peacekeeper wars...just no.

When Farscape and Babylon 5 were both on at the same time - that was the golden age of TV sci-fi.

Wasn't there a stage where TNG was on as well as those two? That would have been great.

Anyway. Farscape sits below both B5 and Trek (at least TOS, TNG and DS9) so for me it isn't the best around. Not by quite a margin. I think you'll get a few people claiming Firefly is better than Farscape too, although I wouldn't agree with that assessment.

I dunno. It's good. I liked a lot of the Cast. Pilot, oddly, was a fav of mine. And the lil'roombas I can't remember the abbreviation/name for.

It's got stiff competition from Stargate SG1, though. Even thought I feel like it jumped the shark some when it forced new wars, like the Aurai, and stuff, and I hate sudden, seemingly forced wars from out of nowhere. I like episodics over long arcs of war scenario.

I guess there's a reason Fargate happened, and Ben Browder, and Claudia Black hopped on at the end of SG1?

It's not like I don't like Trek, or Dr. Who, and other Sci-fy, mind you.

Hm, I am not sure about the best, but it is certainly very, very good.

There is some oddity that I dislike every now and again (Chiana can be annoying and I don't like Stark). I have not finished watching everything yet - I'm going by what is on Netflix, so I don't know how much of the overall story I have got up to, but I think I am on the last season that they have.

The show has a great mix of fun story-lines, interesting characters, questions regarding morality, great (and relatively novel) characters and a huge heaping of humour - exactly what I like in a sci-fi show. My other favourites include Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis (I know it was not as well received, but I was able to see it all on Netflix and loved it), Firefly and Warehouse 13; precisely because of these elements.

I enjoy other sci-fi stuff of course, whether it is more serious stuff like Event Horizon and Star Trek TNG/Voyager or "campy" stuff like Doctor Who, original Star Trek and Blake's Seven (the latter by virtue of age more than anything else really).

As I said, Farscape is certainly a contender for the best, I certainly have a hell of a lot of fun watching it. Great, great show.

+Edit+

In case you can't tell due to the size, my avatar is Crichton from the episode "Cracker's Don't Matter" - loved that one for the sheer insanity of it :D.

Holy crap, really?

I love Stargate but I could only watch it a few years ago, and in somewhat random order, on Sky (the DVD sets are way too expensive for me at the moment). I absolutely must see this!

Farscape is my favourite sci-fi series for its' genre savviness, the well fleshed out characters and for the best 'villain' to grace sci-fi in years.

I have that in quotation marks because if you were to look at it from his perspective Scorpius is basically a calmer Jack Bauer. He's also a clear thinker and gains the loyalty of his followers by being good at leading them.

I'm not sure where to rank it in my personal favorites, but I would not object to someone telling me that it's the best. Between that, Stargate SG-1, DS9, Babylon 5, and what I imagine Firefly could have been, it's hard to say which is the best from every angle.

Farscape is awesome for 3 reasons: humour, good characters and practical effects. Rewatched the pilot yesterday and the fact a lot of things were done as practical effects means its really held up well.

Start from Season 9 as they did a fairly massive retool of the series at that point (Couple of new leads including Browder, new bad guy) which makes it a good jumping off point. Then, if you like it, go back and watch earlier stuff to get some of the history.

Haha - I would never have thought of that parallel. Imagine if jack Bauer looked like scorpius. :)

Perhaps not the best, but one of the best. I rewatch Farsape at least once a year.

Personally, SG-1 was my favorite Sci-Fi show.

I did like Farscape though. Memorable cast. And I particularly like John Crichton, because he does what pretty much all of us would do if we were transported into a foreign part of the universe and had our brains literally screwed with 1.75 times per episode - go completely off his rocker.

Plus, Nigel is just awesome.

I don't know, I really wasn't too impressed with it. I was a huge Trek fan, Star Wars and Babylon 5 but Farscape just never quite made it into my top anything.

Ah, Farscape. I wouldn't say it was THE best sci-fi series, but it was certainly ONE of the best.

Personally, I feel Farscape had a more varied cast of characters. But then, the use of Jim Henson helped with that as they quite literally created characters.
